    I remember when you got your first COROS and after that I ended up getting the Apex. I have small wrists so the pro is just too massive (but I really wanted it). I absolutely love the COROS Apex, the battery life was great, the sapphire glass which comes standard was a great bonus. I recently hiked the 4 Loop Pass in Colorado and it worked flawlessly. It’s my everyday watch, I change out watch bands to dress it up in the office. Love love love this watch, and when it gets too outdated, or more likely when I just really want a new watch, it will be another COROS.

    Great timing. My watch and phone both were ready to conk out during just a 4 hour hike. Not concerning because it was an easy. Straightforward trail. Especially as an older hiker, I kept thinking this could be a disaster. Not crazy about the breadcrumb trail vs full map, but I always carry full paper maps for backup. Maybe this will be my ask for Christmas :)

    I can't say enough about my Apex Pro 2. I ended up getting it because of a recall Coros had on the Apex when they first came out. Basically, they sent everyone that had the old Apex an online voucher for the full price of an Apex. So I got the Pro 2 and only paid another $100 for that new watch. Coros will also allow a trade in value on any of your previous fitness watches, So i got 50 bucks credit for my old garmin fenix.

    Solid review of the Apex. I have been toying with the idea of checking out a Coros. My Garmin Fenix 5x has been nothing but solid for 5+ years so it’s not dissatisfaction. As I delve into more ultras and multi-day hikes, the idea of extended battery life is very appealing.

    • @hanwagu9967
      @hanwagu9967 10 месяцев назад +1

      battery life on the garmins have all improved since fenix 5, and coupled with if u opt for the sapphire solar models gets you more use for multiday and ultra stuff. apex fits between the garmin forerunner and fenix especially in price to features. if u r comparing features uou'd need to compare fenix 7x to the vertix 2 not apex 2. if u like the larger 51mm u might try the enduro 2 over the fenix 7x, if budget allows.

    This was in my top 3 list for potential new watches, especially because its so well oriented toward hiking and tracking in maps. Multi-band GPS and offline maps/good mapping in general were my top priorities moving from the Ticwatch Pro 2. But I decided to go with the Suunto Race mainly based on the look and feel of the mapping from videos I saw. It was honestly very close and time will tell if I made the right decision, im still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I am ok with the lesser quality heart rate monitor in exchange for what I feel are very high quality navigation options.
    IMO Coros beats Garmin at this price range hands down. I really wanted to like the Forerunner series but their mapping and offline mapping just wasn't up to the level of other watches (coros/suunto). In particular the way it zoomed in and out (not good) the level of detail and data they show or adding a new destination, these were just not as smooth or nice as the Race or Apex 2 Pro. You would have to upgrade to the Fenix Pro line which is a couple hundred+ more than these. So yeah sorry Garmin you don't cut it in the sub $500 category if you are a maps person. Great video I appreciate this real world review

  • @suzieriederer9235
    @suzieriederer9235 11 месяцев назад +3

    Thanks for the great video 😊
    On my Garmin watch I notice that as soon as I hike with trecking poles, the step count and sometimes elevation gain are way off (way less steps counted and less elevation gain recorded). My husband has the same watch, but uses poles less often, so I can compare.
    I know you hike with poles too at times. How is the Coros performing for you when you do in terms of step count?

    A few things would make this watch perfect especially in that cool blue color. 1- Better topo maps with names, training readiness, amoled screen (less battery life of course), and incident detection. Do you find any of these features a big deal? Very informative video by the way thanks.

  • @Outofthelimits
    @Outofthelimits 11 месяцев назад +5

    Wow that is a huge amount of elevation!
    Can confirm these things are worth it and last. My first watch lasted an easy 5+ years before I had to upgrade for better satellite connectivity. My second is still chugging along also at 5+ years. It's nice to see Coros continuing to compete by pushing gps battery life up and up, I think this is good for us as consumers. Go Coros

    I think the Garmin ecosystem and app experience is better than the coros. But not by much. The new coros app plus having topo map on the watch make it almost on par now with the Fenix 7 from Garmin. Had they had the topo maps update when I was in the market I would of stayed with Coros. But having like 85 or 90% as good of an experience but at like $200 less is super compelling.

    • @pootinplays
      @pootinplays 4 месяца назад

      @@MrAmitdaswaniNo problem. IF you do more than walking, running, bike or hike. Than garmin is the way to go. They have so much in the way of activity tracking and stats for water sports, snow sports, racket sports and such. However if you primarily do one of those 1st 4 i mentioned seems like the coros is very close on par for much cheaper. I think coros top end models have slightly better battery life but I think Garmin and Coros are way ahead of most of the competition. Dc rainmaker has some really good review and comparison vids if your in the middle of shopping. But they are both great watch brands, and hard to go wrong with either.
      Not sure if it is important to you, but Garmin has taken a very hard stance on never sharing or selling user data/health info or share with any subsidiaries. Seems others have a more loose stance.

    Good review. I am 60 years old and never worn a watch. I am trying to decide which way I want to go for a strictly hiking gps device. I like what this does but I’m also sure it would be hanging off my strap most of the time - not on my wrist.

      I have a Coros. Honestly, I didn’t like wearing watches and I didn’t think I’d wear it all the time but the nylon band they use is quite comfortable. So yeah, I wear it most of the time…even when I sleep. I like that I can set the alarm to wake me with gentle vibration instead of sound. That way I don’t wake my brother up when staying at his place…he can be grumpy in the morning.

      if you don't want, need, or have use for smart watch features, you might consider something like the garmin GPSMAP® 67i. i'm no spring chicken, so a larger gps screen than what the watch provides is useful. plus something like the GPSMAP® 67i also has the garmin SOS and inReach communication, so if you were looking at getting sat communicator like inreach 2 that many thru hikers also use, you wouldn't need to do so since it is built into the GPSMAP® 67i.

  • @hanwagu9967

    Garmin uses multi-band as well, although I think the Coros first to market in a watch claim is true. The battery life drops to 26hrs if you are using the dual-freq on the Coros. Granted it also drops on every watch in the same mode. The Apex Pro 2 does seem to hit that goldilocks zone of features to pricing between the Garmin models, so that's a winner. Don't like that Coros doesn't have a USB-C data/charge cable, which Garmin has. I've been putting the Enduro 2 through its paces (gps mode 110hrs/150hrs w/solar or 68hrs/81hrs w/solar in multi-band to a whopping 77days/172days w/solar in expedition gps mode).

    I just got the Apex 2 pro a few days ago and I’m very frustrated. Why can’t I download a preexisting trail onto the watch? Instead, you have to trace it in the app like Nahamsha shows and then sync it to the watch? She says it took her 2 minutes but when I’m looking at it in the app, I have no clue how to draw the route bc I don’t have a mental picture of it. I’d argue it’s impossible to draw a perfect depiction of a trail. What am I missing? Gahhh!!!!
