As a Filipino youngan back in the 80's. We mostly had the DJ's(Q-Bert, MixMaster Mike, and DJ Apollo) and breakdancers to represent us. But no rap groups. But as soon as the Boo-Yaa Tribe single Raid came out. It was the closest thing to our culture. The Pacific islander culture. Man I was proud to carry the Raid 12" single at my high school. The miulis was scared to say something bad about the record, because the Usos was gonna let them have it. That was my 1st memory of the Boo-Yaa Tribe and their music. Big up to the sick uso poppers(Kobra, Fred Lau, and Heckle and Jeckle) too. 🤙🏽✊🏽💪🏽
Say I was coming up in Htown TX and first time I heard or seen anything BYT a Polynesian neighbor of ours had his grandsons come visit him from California and we were youngins maybe 12 yrs old and we hit it off im half Mexican half Colombian born in Texas and bro was cool cat and he showed me how they did it on the west coast and I was like yo them cats looked mean and tough.. I always used to get a laugh when I seen Boo Ya Tribe dance that boogie.. but shout out to Jay... last I seen him was 93,94 damn near 30 years my Samoan bro..
I always bring up the stories about Booya Tribe. During the East Coast / West Cost beef. I was at the Felly Fell (Power 106 Dj). All these NY tough guys were there walking around looking tough. Until Booya Tribe showed up. After all these HUGE Samoans came, everyone turn into polite and it was like oil and water. People respected their space and turned Harry Potter fans. Kobra dancing like he was only one in the club. LoL, at first I thought they were HUGE Latinos. 😂😂😂😂
I went to your performance in New Zealand , I was too young to appreciate it but seeing you bring it up reminded me. Much love from west Auckland usos 🇳🇿 🇼🇸
In 1991, I met The Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E back in Los Angeles. I first saw them on a TV show called "After Hours"; I learned that they were in a Japanese prison, and they changed their lives around. I wanted to meet these guys; put it all in the Hands of the LORD, and a month later, I met them at a club called Vertigo, and low & behold my eyes, I saw The Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E make their presence known. I went over to them, I got to shake hands with Godfather Rock, Gangsta Ridd, Cobra, Monsta O, King Folsom, and Murder One. Ever since then, I was honored and blessed to be in the presence of The Devoux Brothers, and till this very day, I still speak very highly of them, and I'm glad to call them my friends. Thank you Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E, and I hope to see you again, but I've got to get off of Hawaii, and come back to California for a visit see friends and family, and I intend to see the Boo-Yaa's again.
I grew up in Harbor City that bordered with West Carson and knew exactly who these dudes were. Proud to see fellow Harbor Area dudes leave their mark in history
Mid 90s Mt Druitt , Australia as a young kid my older brother first played these OG USO’s the track was pysko funk. Sadly I was very late to the game with Boo Yaa. I backtracked all their albums though. They very quickly became top 10! Can t believe they ll release 1 final album!! Dope interview!
IDEA: for the Boo Ya T.R.I.B.E documentary or 9th album, if possible, because it’s long overdue, a closing video featuring D-BOY in place of his uncle GANGSTA RIDD, B REAL, & EM on the legendary track 911.
Them stories was legendary to hear.. new subscriber and a big fan of how well you keep the pace of this interview.. can't wait to see everything you do.. blessings for the Western Conference.. also.. shout out for reppin the Niners! 🇦🇸💪🏾

Boo yah tribe didn't only influence samoans around the world they influenced all polynesians: Samoans,Tongans,Cookislanders,Niuean, Tahitian,Fijians,Tokelauans,Tuvaluans and hawaiians like our ancient history Samoans were the gateway into all of polynesia just like how you were the gateway to all polynesian in gangster rap. Love from a fellow Rarotongan brother from sydney australia ma usos.
That story about them rushing the whole club, getting locked up then getting a police escort to their set when they realised who they were.. oh man that’s hella funny. 😂😂These guys the real OGs 🫡🇼🇸🇦🇸
Somebody needs to make a proper doco on these legends and how important and og they were with what they were doing back in the day before all this hardcore stuff. I wonder if ice-t got his bodycount inspiration from these guys
You guys need to make a movie about youse. How godfather was chosen to be godfather. How gotti was the young one with the muscle. How all you would walk into a club and all eyes on you. How Monday ganja wouldn’t be around but for respect from turnouts because of the family. How deathrow wouldn’t fuck with you guys cause they were scared, even though Suge was known for his ways.
