Have this hoodie in the dame blue color. Great under a WPB shell and over mid weight base layer and heavy sweater for alpine skiing in windy. snowy weather, ESPECIALLY on a chair lift where, fully zipped up, it easily covers up to your nose.

Hi there. Is there enough room to layer an regular R1 underneath for very cold conditions? Or do you recommend sizing up?

I don’t think it’s meant for another mid layer underneath . Maybe try a puffy as an outer extra mid layer.

@@MarcP5267 I wear a medium weight base layer zip T neck and a heavy wool sweater under my R2 and it fits nicely. So an R1 in place of my heavy Norwegian sweater would also work.

Is this considered a softshell kind of jacket?

The R2, IMHO is better than a soft-shell B/C its Tech Face is wind resistant, fog resistant and is 1/2 the weight of most soft shells. The grid pattern interior fleece is definitely warmer than you would think. Under a BWP parka it is ideal for alpine skiing in most conditions.
