I love this movie so much and am always happy to hear of other people, who also like this movie that is getting more and more love with each passing year. Quite frankly, this video of yours had some ideas that give a new perspective to the movie (like the crystal as divine parent and a character of its own with its own plans) and made my now in hindsight enjoy the movie a bit more... But yes, the thing with forgetting their own writing and being able to speak fluently different languages, that came a long time after the sinking of Atlantis, where two points that were already making for my no sense when i watched the movie for the first time as a child. And seeing how the crystal is literally a "Deus ex machina" that already moves the story and provides so much, it really would have been not to on the nose (and maybe would even helped to make in the beginning a bit of a mystery?) if there would have been some telepathic translator that came with being in contact with the outsiders, like you proposed. But there is one thing: I think you were overthinking it a bit with the vehicles. Could it not be, that the Atlanteans as an island civillisation could just have had a big reverance for the sea and its creatures?
It is indeed a pretty damn good movie despite its occasional flaws. And frankly, while underrated, I see that’s it’s universally agreed as being underrated to the point that it’s automatically respected again. So fingers crossed for more love for it in the future! As for the vehicles, perhaps, and yeah they could have just been symbolic… but it didn’t feel enough to me personally and I wanted to have fun with it, so I ran with that idea, simply enough 😂

And yes, this movie is problably one of the most respected underrated movies with a big cult following, that things are even themself out in this regard. Still i would have liked it if the movie did better and if the idea with the show would have worked.

Also the glass; the GLASS. I'm sad you didn't touch on the beautiful amber-colored glass of the submarine. Really, the whole ship had such an thematic design and the observation deck/bridge really topped it off.

We know how our world worked, after all, lol. But yes, it was a very cool touch, especially since it helped contrast with the blue and teal colors and tones of Atlantis!
Ironically enough, the sequel "Atlantis: Milo's return" was actually the first few episodes of an animated TV series in the 2000s. However, it was cancelled, and since most of the animation for those episodes was complete, they decided to patch it together as a direct to DVD movie. Only issue was that it was just terrible in every way and made no sense at all, hence why I didn't consider it as a factor for this review 🤣
if by show you mean the sequel "Milo's return" (which was supposed to be a full animated series, but it didn't pan out, so they just merged the first three episodes into one semi narrative), it could have then been about the heart learning about the outside world through Kida's crystal as she went on adventures on the surface, to make sure that this new transition for the Atlanteans would go smoothly. Buuuuuut then again the sequel was really bad, so frankly I'm more than ok with it not being put into account 😂

It is very sweet. And frankly very underrated. Which is a pity, considering just HOW awesome the awesome parts are
