I know this video is 10 years old but just wanted to say thanks for having an easy to follow guide to disassemble my G9. I got those two screws out and it works flawlessly. not even sure if I'll bother putting them back at this point.
I'm back again, 6 years after replacing the board, but this time after I have replaced the clock battery. Your excellent video enabled me to dismantle the camera and replace the battery. For the record this was SEIKO INSTRUMENTS MS614SE Rechargeable Battery, 3 V, Lithium, 3.4 mAh, Button Cell, Pressure Contact, 6.8 mm. Thanks again for your help.😄
@@VitallyZilber The G9 is still an excellent camera for general photography, including a good macro facility. My DSLR rarely leaves my microscope, leaving the G9 for everyday use. It's good that it can be repaired and serviced.
I just followed your vid and fixed my G9. Took me a long time to find a place that would ship the DC-DC board to Canada, but I finally found a place. Followed your vid and after 2 years the G9 is back and running. Thanks man.
I exchanged the fuse to a new one, and the camera powers on now. Great:) I checked the old fuse in the power board, and it was open so I concluded that the fuse was faulty. I bought a replacement fuse, 2,5 A, from electronics parts shop for 2,5 €. It is not an easy task to change the fuse because it is such a tiny part, but managed to do it. Thanks for instructions!
Thanks for making this video. I had the no power problem as well. I ordered a replacement board off eBay and used this video as a guide on how to swap it out. Camera works great now.
Thank you my friend! I saw your video differents weeks ago, so I ordered in PRC the spare part and a few minutes ago my G9 return to life ;) Very useful video.
Thanks for the video... both screws were out on my G9. Ordered from ebay a use power board and new plastic cover on the outside of the LCD screen (which was cracked) the total of $25. Just replaced both and now the camera works like new! THANKS again!!!
Worked like a charm. Installed the new board as per this video, put the battery back in, crossed my fingers and hit the power button. Lit up and lens popped out. Also put Loctite blue on the 2 screws, as well as a dab of Crazy Glue on top of the heads and then a small strip of black duct tape on top of both screws and the bracket. The screws will never fall out again.
Yes. Use a VERY small soldering iron to desolder the fuse. I found it easiest to destry the part, then remove each end. Digikey has replacements: P15129CT-ND
I don't see anything on their site that says they don't. What ever you do, do NOT order from darntoothysam I had to have my bank reverse a charge on my credit card from them because they never shipped the board and were completely unresponsive via email, phone and texting the owner. I also reported them to the Better Business Bureau which a lot of other folks have done.
Ha, now I know why I had two screws left after reassembling a G9! I took a look into it because it didn't power on anymore. Thanks for showing clearly where the fuse sits. By bridging it I could confirm that my camera is still working (NEVER bridge a fuse except for testing, it's there for a reason, i. e. to keep things from going up in flames). Now I just need a replacement fuse. Btw. you should unlock the ribbon connectors and not just yank the cables out.
Thanks for the video. You made it look easy.I have a G7. I haven't bought the part(PCB) yet but can get it for approx £35.My screws were tight and the one under the flap rounded.I tapped the screw driver into it with a light hammer and managed to get it out.Not a good idea but I was out of options.I didn't take the top plate off yet but could see the 2 screws loose and lying in there.Took them out. Struggled to get the back plate back on because the eye piece viewfinder just did not want to go back nicely. Not sure it is even perfect now but got the case back on and married up the front and back. So just building confidence to have a go and buy the part. Not guaranteed it will work so thinking about it. At my own risk of course. Maybe I can try putting the screws back first without buying the part and see if it works. I did try powering on after taking the loose screws out and no power so probably the fuse has blown or PCB burnout.
Yeah, just try that first. There is a chance i will work but don't count on it much. I would hold with assembling it and would order the board and replace it.
Great video. Got my dc dc board out , put Loctite Blue on the two screws. Waiting for the new DCDC board to arrive. When it comes to the button battery, when in the process would I put it back in the new DCDC board? Before installing the board and plugging in the 2 plugs and the ribbon tape?. Or after hooking up the 2 plugs and the tape. Afraid I'll blow the new board with the button battery if I don't do it properly. Or does it even matter?
Hi Steig, i suggest you to check the plugs that you disconnected while disassembling the camera. Most likely you did not connect it properly when assembled. Zoom not working sounds like the zoom buttons are not connected to the camera main board. Check everything and write back. Hope it helps!
brilliant vid, just fixed the G9 that was given to me... Although its almost impossible or very expensive to get a new power module, I purchased another cheaply from ebay that had had its lens damaged so I could strip it for the required part..
Wonderful help - can't wait to start repair on my G7 which is almost identical and seems to have same problem - hoping the part I have ordered arrives from China as Vitally Zilber says two orders he placed could not be supplied !
Really helpful. In my case only two loose screws were the cause of the failure. Short-circuit without further damage? After tighten up the two loose screws below the top plate, my G9 did work again. Fortunately, in my case there was no need for a new power module.
I guess its safe to install the button in the board before plugging the board back in to the camera then. Never crossed my mind that the new board would arrive with a fresh battery, maybe it will. I was wondering how long those button batteries last in the camera, its been in there about 3 or 4 years and I would love to find a new fresh one but they're difficult to locate, can't even find one on ebay.. It's an MS 614 S button battery. Yes, have had the main battery out for months.
Question for you. You mentioned the fuse could be blown. I could not see the fuse too clearly in the video although you try to circle it. Is the fuse replaceable? Does it pop out or is it soldered on the board. Do you know what type/size of fuse it is?
Hi Steig, sorry to hear that. Only thing I can think of is to use a very thin drill and to drill it out. That is not easy job and you should have someone with good tools and skills to complete it successfully.
One comment, based on my experience doing this fix: at 2:36, where he's using a screwdriver to pull the flat flex cable out of the ZIF socket? There's no need to use force. There's a hinged release bar that runs the width of the ZIF socket (I believe it's at the opposite side from the cable) that you "gently" flip up to release the cable. I use a fingernail or a toothpick. This release bar needs to be up when you re-insert the cable during reassembly. Digikey fuse p/n: P15129CT-ND
lovely, thanks. mine hasn't got any screws by the silver thing near the on/off that you put the carry cord on. I suppose it'll come off alright. my camera's just died. i guess i'll have to source a power module and do this. you make it look fairly easy. thanks. :)

Hi, I want to order the Power module replacement part for the G12. I tried to find it at Digi-Key. Nothing came out of my search. Can you tel me where and under what name i can find this part? Thank you again for your video !
I have just tried to find power module for g12 and could not get anything. I got g9, though available. Basically try searches: power board, power circuit, power part.. with canon and g12. good luck!
My G9 gets very warm (hot) in the upper right top plate. Also noticeable when I remove the battery and insert a finger to the wall between the SD Card and the battery compartment. Could this be a precursor to a short on the power board, or a GPU issue?
@@johnsebastian7940 you mean the fuse? Measure the resistance of it on the board. If it more than 0 ohm then it need to be replaced otherwise the entire board needs to be replaced.

I've just started disassembling my camera and ran into a problem right away. I can't seem to get the small screws next to the review button and inside the AV access flap to come out. I don't have a philips head small enough to fit so I'm using a 1 mm flat blade. It just bends as I try to turn the screws. I'm afraid of messing the screw heads up so they'll never come out. Any suggestions?
Maybe Loctite is the Brand name but it is used for locking screws in place. When the screw is undone it breaks the seal that the Loctite glue paste like substance has formed when it drys. I think it might also be a protection from screws rusting and seizing up meaning they come out easy when the seal is broken.
Hey, I am not sure there is a simple way to know that. If you have a multimeter you can check the fuse first, otherwise you will only know after you assembled the new board.
I have done the change right now but it doesn't work... what about the mini battery on the card? I received the new card without the battery and I used the one on the old card. if this is low could be the cause? what else could I try?
