    I just saw this and am so thankful that you share this kind of information! So many RUclips crafters don’t seem as interested and you are in helping others succeed but rather to showcase their crafts and make sure to tell us not to make anything similar at all or use their techniques without proper credit. I love your helping hand and encouragement. Quick question: let’s say I bought a wooden plank that retails for $15, then paint on it to sell. Would I double the retail only and that price covers the added artwork, so I’d sell it for only $30? Or add extra fee for painting on it as well? Thanks so much!

    • @craftingwithhwm
      @craftingwithhwm  6 лет назад

      You are very welcome, Blanca. That means so much too me, yes I would double the amount I mean you are also doing the labor and you need to get paid for it. The shipping is optional to the seller you could be added to the price of the item or you could add additional shipping where the customer will pay for it on their own. You could also set the shipping to a set price and or by state and zip code weight and so on. It is a lot of factors that are in the middle. I hope this helps, thank you, don't forget to like and share. Thank you, Lori.

      Thank you, Dana, for letting everyone in NC know that it is at the state level. It is different for every state that is why you have to check for sure.

    Thank you Lori for sharing this valuable information. I live in Rockledge, Florida and would like to find some ladies that are into wreath making in my area. I need some wreath buddies! Do have any ideas how I could locate wreath makers close by? Will you be going to the Fall Crafters convention that Scott is having in Oct? I hated that I couldn't go to WML,
    maybe next year. Thanks again Lori, I love everything that you design! You looks awesome! Denise

      Thank you, Denise, Are you in any wreath facebook groups? That is the best place to find wreath makers in your area. I am checking to see if i can go to Scott's convention. I am going to be homeschooling the boys this year so i am trying to figure it out.

    Lori, When we go into retail business and sell goods, we are an agent of the state since we charge tax on items we sell and have to give that tax back to the state by filling our taxes, and I think that that is done four times a year for an ongoing retail business.
    This is very important and the government keeps an eye on small business because of this sales tax money that belongs to the state....Many a retail business has gotten in trouble by not giving this money back. File your business taxes accordingly.

    • @craftingwithhwm
      @craftingwithhwm  6 лет назад +1

      Hello ok this is not quite correct. Income tax on business is filed quarterly for everyone but only retailers pay sales tax quarterly and absolutely both are watched very closely. That is separate from sales tax collection on handmade items. Many small businesses collect sales tax as they are selling products retail but an online-only handmade seller the rules are different. This video is about whether you should buy wholesale not how you pay taxes. I have been a CPA for 25 years and i am quite aware of what the income tax and sales tax laws are. What you are talking about is related to brick and mortar stores not online handmade products. This could confuse people who are just starting out. Quarterly sales tax is not paid by handmade sellers it is paid monthly in most states. These are two very different businesses and every state is different. There is no way to make blanket statements that apply to all states.

    Hello Lori, my name is Raine and I have been following you for almost a year. You are the reason I have decided to make this a business. My question for you i, do you get your business license first or can you get the state sales tax license first? (I dont need a county license in the state of Michigan.)

  • @murieldubuisson8049
    @murieldubuisson8049 6 лет назад

    Mississippi charges $500.00 to obtain a Sales Tax ID and you have to apply for said ID through the state, not the county.

    • @craftingwithhwm
      @craftingwithhwm  6 лет назад

      Every state is different and some counties have sales tax as well.

      You never know you may have one someday and it is less expensive to run an online business than a brick and mortar shop for sure. I would love to have a store but it is too hard to maintain and have a family.
