I was so sad when I saw this in the news recently. Good luck to everyone involved in this rescue project. Keeping everything crossed that it's successful ❤
Hi Maxine, What a job you guys will have with this operation. The fact the Environment Agency trust you to take on some females to protect them is really good news. Other projects can always go on hold in an emergency like this because you will be helping to save a species. Good luck with the rescue - just hope you find enough berried females.
We wish you all the best of luck, and good on you for helping. Harvest mice, whiteclawed crayfish, and now red squirrels. Thank you for looking after our British wildlife where you can.
It is quite amazing how passionate you are about all of the animals in your zoo !! As well as how much all of the staff pay such attention to detail and how much everyone deeply cares for each of the different species at the zoo, no matter how large or small they may be... My Prayers are definitely with you and everyone at the Northumberland Facility that you all will be able to continue to grow and have such great success at the zoo... As Always, Thanks So Very Much For Sharing Your Passion With Everyone.
Sending you my very Best wishes to you for doing your best for our native species!! They really need our help especially now, because once theyre gone, theres no way of bringing them back, ~and, as you mention, these are a Keystone species!! Thank you so much for all your hard work!! It isnt easy, as I know myself. Namaste,../\..., Andrea and Critters. ...XxX...
Very interesting to see that the zoo is being used for vital conservation work, lets hope it works. They are taking Crayfish at Flamingo Land as well, a new facility has been built especially for them so lets hope that between both zoos we can save enough to go back into the wild when the time is right. Are they trying to remove the Invasive species because it sounds to me that until they do they cannot return them, i know they are not in the river near you but they are in a lot of other rivers.
We hope so too! We sent our captive stock to Flamingo land to test their facility as they have only just built it. The more Zoos that get involved with crayfish conservation, the better! We do have signal crayfish around here too, our white-claws have constantly been under pressure and at risk. Removing Signals is a whole other problem that sadly doesn’t have a practical solution.
It has not been identified yet. The EA have sent multiple samples off over the past couple of months to Cefas for testing so we are hoping for results soon.
Well done for stepping up and doing what you can!
Very strange about the unknown infected Waters! At least you'll be able to assist and help save the different Crayfish ~❤
Sweet great work 👏👏👏👏👏
I wish you all the luck in the world with this project!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻 they will need it!

7:30 pm in eastern USA... . I'm only a minute in ... What's the name of the river?
Good evening! Wansbeck River, River Tyne. Major rivers in the northeast of England.
Is it a bacterial infection or virus . Have they examined the dead crayfish .
It has not been identified yet. The EA have sent multiple samples off over the past couple of months to Cefas for testing so we are hoping for results soon.
One possible source of the virus could be from a ship's ballast water.
Best of luck with this important project. The EA clearly rate your abilities and passion... and rightly so 🫶
Thank you 🙏🏻 its a huge responsibility, we just hope its not too late!
