The power of the bifrost is such a cool ass thing... No other civilization in the MCU has this much range in exercising power like what the bifrost gives the asgardians... Being able to bring armies across the universe in seconds.... Even able to travel to infinity and beyond.... marvelous
It would seem that the bifrost, like thor's hammer, is merely a device for channeling a power. We see Heimdall in his final moments asking the allfathers for one final use of the dark magics to transport Banner to Earth to warn the planet what is coming and he touches the sword and uses his hand to point it at Banner. What an absolute chad to use the last of his strength getting Banner out of there knowing they'd kill him for it. We also hear in an earlier film Loki tell Thor that Odin must have used his vast reserve of dark magics to get Thor to Earth when the bifrost was out of commission after being destroyed.

I think before Heimdall, there could be lots of Asgardians that were more powerful than Heimdall. But Odin has to "slay" them all to hide Hela... Leaving only Heimdall... probably the only trustworthy one to keep watch over the galaxies since most of the Asgardian enemies were subjugated already.

Idris was an inspiring choice as this character. But since they race-swapped Heimdall, they should've done the same for Sif and make her his sister like in the comics. Idris was an inspiring choice as this character. But since they race-swapped Heimdall, they should've done the same for Sif and make her his sister like in the comics. Or just say they had different mothers, could be a reference to Heimdall being the son of nine mothers. Would've added needed depth to these characters.
