- What is the difference between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer as coaches of The Ohio State University? Well.....With 12 seconds left in the first half and your up 21-3 on a 3rd and 15. You go for the END ZONE!!!!!!! I like this team, play the full 60 minutes!!!!! Just to let you know, Coach Tressel would have sat on the ball and taken the team into the locker room. Not to take anything away from him but he was always a bit passive and content, Coach Meyers has these boys playing full speed for every second they are on the field. :)

I never said Coach Tressel was boring, but its very exciting to me so see the buckeyes playing 60 minutes of football. Now that is smash mouth football without the 3 yards of dust!
Tressel being innovative on the Offensive side of the ball is like saying Jerry Sandusky isnt creepy at all. Thanks for the laugh.
there hasn't been a buckeye team, player, or coach, ever, who hasn't "annoyed me at times". what made tressel a great coach was that he was a strategist. unlike most fans, he wasn't sitting there trying to come up with rash gut instinct decisions off the seat of his pants on every play. that's why he was able to win continuously, and why most of the fans that incessantly bitched about his play calling could probably never win a single game as a coach.
That was their perfect season year and double OT win against the Hurricanes, Can you tell me that his team played all 60 minutes outside of a conference match up when they were ahead by a bundle. As a Buckeye, I grew tired of the passiveness and I wanted to add insult to injury against ANY team we played.
I think that was a designed run that fluttered and Craig Krenzel had no choice but to launch one towards the endzone. Look at the replay.
Yeah I also seem to remember a lot of gutless play calling on from Tressel especially when he had a big lead. Tressels last game in the Sugar Bowl was a perfect example of that. This led to several heart attacks and many unnecessary close calls in losing. Seem to remember Tressel kicking a field goal at the 1 yard line in the USC game and costing us the game. Miami Ohio-who really gives a crap. Urban attacks for 60 minutes and we have a better chance of consistenty beating the top OOC teams.
While Urban did beat Tressel head to head by 4 TDs, Tressel was still our 2nd best coach ever and Urban better stay here for a decade and win multiple national titles if Urban wants to be better than Tress
believe whatever you want. evidence is evidence. jt, despite what idiots on the chatboards would ever believe, produced some of the highest scoring teams in osu history. they overperformed every year in big games, and they consistently won with very different sets of talent. the common factor was an innovative, flexible offensive approach that simply worked. jt for years was known as "the best play caller in college football". if your memory distorts that quickly, then i really can't help you.
Tressel was a good coach with alot of success, no doubt. But Urban Meyer should take OSU to an even higher level because I think he's a better coach, better recruiter, more aggressive and more appealing, flat out.
there's nothing boring about winning, and tressel won plenty. i don't know what brought on this comment...perhaps you were asleep for the last 10 years...but jim tressel was one hell of a good football coach, and his teams were damn exciting.
what is the difference between jt and urban meyer? well, for starters tressel would have gotten points out of this drive, whereas urban didn't. tressel won 106 games at osu; urban, so far, has won 1. you can bitch and moan all you want about how great it is that we have a "new era", but the last era - which brought us 7 big ten titles, 3 national title games and 7 top-5 finishes in 9 years, wasn't too bad.
and, for the record, i seem to remember a lot of gutsy pre-halftime calls by tressel.
Again, I never said Tressel was a bad coach, but he let his boys play too soft. When you line up against that guy in front of you, you hit him in the mouth every time the ball is snapped so that way he knows that you mean business for a full 60 minutes.

and no, no tressel team ever quit playing and left the field before 60 minutes concluded. in fact i've never heard of a team doing that period, except in conditions of inclement weather.
well, i'm sure you were very happy with john cooper then. he sure ran up the score on a lot of crappy opponents. of course, he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag in big games, but so long as he proved he could put up 10 touchdowns on pittsburgh i guess that's all that really matters, right?

WTF are you mentioning the LSU embarrassment? Ill give you Notre Dame, Oregon, and the 1st half of Arkansas. Thats it. Are you saying you are the only Buckeyes fan who didnt find him & Bollmans ultra Conservative play calling annoying at times? Ill also give you the '02 Purdue game but thats ONLY BECAUSE the game was on the line. Tell me how often Tress called a play like that when he absolutely did not have to?
Just throwing it out there but Miami of Ohio is no poor school. Check your facts before you just assume that because they have a so so football team that they are a poor school. Just look at their hockey program.
no choice? he could have run for 10 yards easily on the play. there was no one in front of him. of course, arguing about a single play is obviously a weak attempt to change the subject. i'm happy to post 25 other "gutsy" calls by jt. stop with this charade of bullshit as though somehow the "dark ages" are over.
