No, it isn't a fancy scientific study - but we're going to do it anyway so just hold on tight and enjoy the ride.
I'm placing the following deer mineral salt blocks in front of a trail camera to see which one the deer tend to go to the most.
    1) Pure Salt Block
    2) Ranch House Apple Deer Block
    3) Sulfur Salt Block
    4) Ranch House Trace Mineral Salt Block
    5) Buck Lickers Sweet Acorn Salt Brick
    6) Buck Lickers Sweet Corn Salt Brick

no matter which one they prefer minerals added to the herd makes healthier deer... deer love salt and sweets and that has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt... store bought or homemade supplements are worth the time and money. I would think the sugar beet one would be hit the most! I guess we will see! can't wait for video!

i have used big 6 mineral salt in a bag this past Nov. doe and bucks loved it.
i also put out a bag of beet pulp on occasion. i use 12% sweet feed and corn. granted im feeding pigs as well as deer here in texas i do use a block here & there so it won't dissolve like the bagged salt will.
looking forward to the results on this.

One thing we have done here is use water softener pellets. Not the rock salt variety but the type that looks like chicklets chewing gum. I think it’s easier for the deer to grab a few and chew them up rather than lick the block. Funny thing is, they will eat the pellets like crazy from late spring up until early fall then all of a sudden they stop eating them. Not sure why.

There is a difference between preferred and what's "best" for the deer.
My deer prefer the pure white salt blocks. In its absence, they'll use others. They even lick winter road salt off my truck.
I heard flavored blocks and such, including gels, are bad as deer get too much salt while eating the attractant.

It will be next to impossible to tell what is actually happening. I've run cameras on salt licks for years. Deer will show up on camera and use the blocks. But most deer look pretty much the same. So are you seeing a bunch of different deer all gravitating to one or two blocks that are more attractive than other blocks? Or is it just the same one or two deer coming back to the same blocks because that particular deer happen to have a personal taste preference? You will never know because you won't know if what deer are using it. Plus, the blocks melt away in the rain. Some blocks melt fast, other melt slow. Just seeing a block deteriorate quickly doesn't mean deer or anything else is eating it. It could be the blocks simply dissolve. Finally, many other animals will use a salt lick too, particularly raccoons. So if the salt gets used up, who ate it? This experiment will tell you nothing at all, beyond the fact that deer like salt. At the end, you may come to some personal opinions about which salt block works best but they will simply be what you think about the situation not necessarily what is actually true. Your experiment simply won't give you sufficient reliable information upon which to make any sort of genuine conclusion. So, if you cannot reach a reliable conclusion what good is it to reach an unreliable opinion? If it is fun for you and the viewers, so be it. I love your channel and am a subscriber but not in order to get useful deer behavior information from it!

Pulverize one of those big blocks of your choice. In the spot you plan to locate the lick, cultivate the ground in a three foot circle about six inches deep. Pour the pulverized block on top of the cultivated soil and lightly mix into the soil for a couple inches. Set up a app specific camera and leave the site alone. You will be amazed how much dirt they will eat the first 6 months, these licks are good for one year.
