No, it isn't a fancy scientific study - but we're going to do it anyway so just hold on tight and enjoy the ride.
I'm placing the following deer mineral salt blocks in front of a trail camera to see which one the deer tend to go to the most.
1) Pure Salt Block
2) Ranch House Apple Deer Block
3) Sulfur Salt Block
4) Ranch House Trace Mineral Salt Block
5) Buck Lickers Sweet Acorn Salt Brick
6) Buck Lickers Sweet Corn Salt Brick
7) Wildgame Sugarbeet Crush Salt Brick

pointless video without the followup...
Absolutely pointless
That's a lot of salt. The venison will be cured before you shoot it. haha!
Hahaha!
Deer bouillon.
Double Dog Farm lol good one
@TallDryGlass you don't even have to hit them, just scaring them with a gun shot will cause then to stroke out 🤣
I've had so much luck with sugar beat! I buy 3 blocks a year. It amazing
no matter which one they prefer minerals added to the herd makes healthier deer... deer love salt and sweets and that has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt... store bought or homemade supplements are worth the time and money. I would think the sugar beet one would be hit the most! I guess we will see! can't wait for video!
I’ve always had good results with the mineral block during the year to pattern deer to specific trails they generally hit it all summer but as fall approaches they start gnawing on them down here in east Texas
Cool video. Thanks for making and sharing. We have 11 acres in western Washington and we have three regular deer that I want entice to stay and be healthy.
For those wondering...here's the follow-up video: ruclips.net/video/O6uCjx8DYxc/видео.html
i have used big 6 mineral salt in a bag this past Nov. doe and bucks loved it.
i also put out a bag of beet pulp on occasion. i use 12% sweet feed and corn. granted im feeding pigs as well as deer here in texas i do use a block here & there so it won't dissolve like the bagged salt will.
looking forward to the results on this.
Thanks for sharing!
I never thought of doing this experiment, I'm sure the needs of your deer are different than the ones here in Northeast Georgia. I'm going to try this here. Thanks for the idea. One of my favorite channels!
Thanks for watching! I'm curious to see what the deer go for, and, as I said, I have no clue if that means the block they select is "what they need", or if like too many of us humans (me included) we go after what we like, not what we need.
I live in Abbeville SC so I'm probably not to far from you. Did you ever do the experiment? Which one is better for our area?
This will be interesting. Happy New Year 🎈
Did you make a follow up video on the salt test ? I looked through your video and can't find it ..
Thank you for sharing this video. I put the small molasses block out two weeks ago. The deer seem to like it. This morning I set a sweet corn and molasses beside the molasses block. We will see what happens.
So what happened?
@@nw1858for real. What happened.
Neat test. I am really interested as to which works best. Thanks
@Robert Dahlgren WELL, aren't you a ray of sunshine!
can't wait to see the results. great experiment.
Thank you :-D
I like the set up for the blocks. I wonder what they will prefer.
I have a porcupine eating part of my deck wood. I want to try the blocks
to give the porcupine something else to gnaw on.
I'm trying learn about this.
Thank you for posting!!! I subscribed.
Thank you for posting this
I live in the Texas hill country and bought a small sweet corn and small apple but think maybe next year try just one large plain. Thanks for the video
I live in New Brunswick Canada. I live on a small island called deer lsland go tell, there is about 5 to 6 deer per square mile guessing. Apples in the fall. I feed them corn and beef feed in the winter with molasses. This is in our door yard. We have had up to 16 to 18 at 1 time. I really enjoyed your video. Happy shooting. l
Whew, that's a lot of deer!
Yeah we had a bad winter 2 years ago. The wild dogs raised hell with the deer here. They are starting to come back now. They took out lot of the does and fawns. But they are coming back now. Great talking to you. Looking forward to your videos.
That's a shame to hear that, but glad nature is fixing itself. Thanks for watching the videos!

What's the population of humans there?
from what ive seen thro the yrs.they have a sweet tooth during fall putting on for winter i think?they like salt during the heat the best.......put a few drops of molasses on some corn see what happens.
What was the end result of your test? Peace, Reese
So which one did the choose? Did you upload footage?
Great video, thank you.
I have tried several of these types of blocks as well as loose minerals/salt mixed and gotten very little results. I switched to a mined Himalayan block and use 2-3 8 lb blocks per year. I get the ones from Walmart, bit they're basically just like Trophey Rock...just less expensive.
I saw those and considered doing the same thing. Thanks for sharing!
One thing we have done here is use water softener pellets. Not the rock salt variety but the type that looks like chicklets chewing gum. I think it’s easier for the deer to grab a few and chew them up rather than lick the block. Funny thing is, they will eat the pellets like crazy from late spring up until early fall then all of a sudden they stop eating them. Not sure why.
Did you ever do the follow up video on salt licks... ???
Cool! Neat experiment!
I appreciate you saying so :-)
Great video vary informative
Is there a part 2 with the results?
what a lovely experiment :)
Thank you :-D
This vide made me a subscriber.
Thank you.
There is a difference between preferred and what's "best" for the deer.
My deer prefer the pure white salt blocks. In its absence, they'll use others. They even lick winter road salt off my truck.
I heard flavored blocks and such, including gels, are bad as deer get too much salt while eating the attractant.
Very interesting! I look forward to the results!
Hopefully they'll be a decisive answer :-D
Which one is best just to attract them? They play around in my back yard a lot and I want to attract them a little closer to the house . I got a mineral block from TSC but they aren't really interested in it. I put corn out and they eat it up but I can't afford to feed corn all the time lol. I just wanna get them closer because I enjoy watching them

I hunt here in South Carolina n I have used every possible salt block there is and had nothing.. also the peanut butter screwing it to a tree while cutting the bottom. off...... I've even tried using the liquid you pour on logs or dirt n still nothing... everyone swears there's that one thing that'll always work but deer are different... I've got deer out the Yee hang n they want touch nothing but the corn... I've tried every possible tip there is everyone has given me but nothing on my end... no luck..... but I still enjoy hearing and watching others videos n what works best for them....
Hence the reason I'm not listening to what the world says and running my own experiment with my own deer :-)
The deer I shoot at and miss every fall seem to have a sweet tooth for molasses and apples.
I see you and I have the same deer ;-)
Our short film A Deer Eats His Lunch. ruclips.net/video/NKcKOSlvQyU/видео.html
I have been making my own for the past few years with great results. The deer have eaten entire tree stumps and are now producing the largest racks we have ever seen. Good luck, can't wait to see the results.
I could care less about the racks. I care about getting them into the field and them being nice and plump.
thanks J&J Acres
Can't wait to see what your deer think! ;D
Probably a bunch of purist foodie snobs who will only ever eat the solid salt block I already had out there in the first place. It would be my luck ;-) :-p
Probably thirsty afterwards
I've used cattle sweet feed and it disappeared faster than corn, rice bran, and blocks.
Cut up two dozen apples add a bag of sugar mix well in a five gallon bucket and put the lid on. Let ferment for a week or two and then pour it out it works well and is a cheap way to get bucks on camera especially if you have apple trees.
Dubois Creek Cattle LLC ur also making liquor lol!!!
@@zackeletonfh8940 gonna have drunk deer running around and soon be alcoholics 😆
I have had luck with the plain white blocks. You can get the 50 pound blocks here for 4 dollars.
My bucks love the ones from royal king
Good to go. Would like to see results, 👍
You can review the full playlist here: ruclips.net/video/oiqVb9rC_IU/видео.html
My question is, why will they eat off one pile an not the other.
I poured two 5 gallon buckets of corn from the same bag 10ft apart.
They always eat the one pile gone an never touch the other..🤷♂️
Did you ever offer a results video?
I should put a link to that, eh? ruclips.net/video/O6uCjx8DYxc/видео.html
That small one by wild game innovation suck the fall apart when they get wet
The small bricks sure did wash a way a LOT quicker than the blocks.
can we know the results? it's been 6 years. Click Bait.
So which salt block did they prefer?
I will probably post results next month.
Win Gates I am very interested as well!
interesting I want to know to know the results too
Come back next month or so
I look forward to seeing your results.
Thanks for watching!
LoL, the lick blocks have like Cannabis names
I been using trophy ROCKS ISIT GOOD
Will rain dissolve the pure salt block faster?
How soon before you post the trail cam footage ?
This looks to be a great way to show preferences by the deer themselves.
Taking the time to do these kind of videos sets your channel apart from a lot of
other content.
enjoy these very much.
Thank you for those kind words. This has been setup now for a week, I'll be checking out the footage for the first time tomorrow. While I may share some video and pictures from the trail cam just to share images of the deer I don't plan to make any comments about which is doing better, etc, until spring.
where are the results?
Same comment as everyone else. Looking forward to the results.
Thanks for following along with us.
It will be next to impossible to tell what is actually happening. I've run cameras on salt licks for years. Deer will show up on camera and use the blocks. But most deer look pretty much the same. So are you seeing a bunch of different deer all gravitating to one or two blocks that are more attractive than other blocks? Or is it just the same one or two deer coming back to the same blocks because that particular deer happen to have a personal taste preference? You will never know because you won't know if what deer are using it. Plus, the blocks melt away in the rain. Some blocks melt fast, other melt slow. Just seeing a block deteriorate quickly doesn't mean deer or anything else is eating it. It could be the blocks simply dissolve. Finally, many other animals will use a salt lick too, particularly raccoons. So if the salt gets used up, who ate it? This experiment will tell you nothing at all, beyond the fact that deer like salt. At the end, you may come to some personal opinions about which salt block works best but they will simply be what you think about the situation not necessarily what is actually true. Your experiment simply won't give you sufficient reliable information upon which to make any sort of genuine conclusion. So, if you cannot reach a reliable conclusion what good is it to reach an unreliable opinion? If it is fun for you and the viewers, so be it. I love your channel and am a subscriber but not in order to get useful deer behavior information from it!
I agree, there are way too many variables to try to control.
Use trail cams
did this in my deer pen, they liked the white.
Thanks for sharing!
You see, there was your mistake right at the start... you went online and asked for help!
I supose your lad was wanting to carry those 7 blocks there, one at a time, in the tractor bucket?
Best Wishes, Brendan.
The Internet may well be the Valley of the Shadow of Death ;-)
When I scheduled these videos I didn't even think about that --- this video was filmed before the one when Brandon got to drive the tractor up and down the hills. Kinda makes it look like I took the tractor back over, doesn't it? Oops.
I think you're right though, he'd have found a way to make as many trips as possible, just so he could keep driving the tractor :-)
Results?
Were posted here: ruclips.net/video/O6uCjx8DYxc/видео.html
Well shit witch one did they eat
Sugar beet is my pick
I'm assuming there is no follow up to this video
Not yet, our season hasn't really even gotten going yet
When does your season end?
Feb 1st
Oh deer!
Bottom Line: Record Rack Wild Berry. They will GO NUTS. Tractor Supply and Blaine's both carry those blocks.
Awesome! How many children do you have?
Uhhh... hold on, let me go count again....
... 5, I came up with 5. I think that's the right number. Hopefully nobody is missing ;-)
Where are the results?
All the videos related to this can be found in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLj2RMfvPdG7vblgYhhsB18umJEssUocmA
Dude! So which one worked the best!? Lol
ruclips.net/video/O6uCjx8DYxc/видео.html
I’ve had the best luck with just plain old feed corn with a little koolaid on top
Koolaid, eh? Just the sugary powder, I presume, not prepared liquid?
Yes sir
Pulverize one of those big blocks of your choice. In the spot you plan to locate the lick, cultivate the ground in a three foot circle about six inches deep. Pour the pulverized block on top of the cultivated soil and lightly mix into the soil for a couple inches. Set up a app specific camera and leave the site alone. You will be amazed how much dirt they will eat the first 6 months, these licks are good for one year.
Its scientific enough
If they can't find a salt lick they will lick what's available
Maybe change the title I was expecting to actually get an answer?? Not a question!!
lucky deer ☺
Talk about a buffet of mineral options, eh?
its fantastic 😊
Damnit I thought he was gonna try em then leave em for the deer
Sorry if I let you down.
Am i the only one who thought this guy was gonna lick the blocks haha
Has anyone hear of bleach poured out on the ground...???
Not me
I wanna be a deer on your property, as long as you don't make me take and wear 1 of those funny circle placards on my chest.
Looks like big foot behind you.....lol!
Lucky buck, try it.
Never feed deer cow salt blocks no good
Deer could you please pass the salt .
.10
"Rut Starter Trophy Block" is the best hands down. Viagra is the key. Look it up.
Well, you certainly made me do a double take!
I thought you were going to taste the salt I’m a little disappointed lol
This "man" will take 4 mins of your live and point to the next video.

Where is the fucking deer?
Who else came here for the Walking Dead
This video is pointless. Title should read i bought 7 salt blocks for deer. Why didnt you wait until after you have gotten data from your experiment to make a video?
Can't say I like this channel because it's soo scattered with shit I don't want to watch I can't find the follow up to this video.
BOOOO! Never says which is best?!
lol - that's because this was the start of deer season. Deer seasons just ending here. Give me another week or so and there will be a results. video.
We should just get home with it you just running your mouth we know you try to sell your product
lol why did you raise so many fortresses before any criticism could even came your way?!
