  • In Vlog 044, I share the story of my 2004 Honda Pilot, which has impressively crossed the 300,000-mile mark, and discuss its journey, repairs, and maintenance over the years.
    Key Points:
Introduction: Welcoming viewers to the 44th vlog, continuing the discussion from the previous video.
    Background:
Purchased the 2004 Honda Pilot in 2010 at an auction for $3,700.
The vehicle had front-end damage, a dent in the roof, and suspension issues due to an accident.
    Initial Repairs:
The car wouldn't start at the auction; after several attempts and a new battery, it finally started but made a banging noise.
Discovered water and oil had entered the cylinders due to the car being on its side, causing a piston to break.
Personally repaired the engine, replacing the broken piston with guidance from family mechanics.
Took the car to a body shop for further repairs and began using it as a family vehicle.
    Mileage and Performance:
The car has been driven over 300,000 miles with no major issues.
Despite minor engine scratches from the initial piston problem, the engine remains reliable with regular maintenance.
Regular oil and coolant checks, air filter changes, and twice-yearly oil changes keep the car running smoothly.
    Minor Issues:
Some mechanical issues like the rear heater not working, inconsistent temperature controls, and quirky windshield wipers.
These issues don't affect the overall performance, and the car remains dependable.
    Emphasis on Maintenance:
Stressing the importance of regular maintenance for vehicle longevity.
Sharing a story about a friend’s car engine failure due to lack of oil maintenance, highlighting the need for basic upkeep.

Congratulations on hitting 300,000 miles! I hope to someday have one of my vehicles do that. You can save so much money rather than taking out a new car payment. One of my buddies hit 400,000 miles, but he is the highest mileage person that I personally know. Many of my other friends have around 379,000 miles on their early 2000's suv's.

I have a 2002 accord coupe at 309,000 cold a/c and runs great. It’s my work car. Co workers won’t carpool with me because they have standards… and massive monthly car payments with increasing auto insurance premiums. 👍

Wife's '05 Pilot should pass 310k miles sometime this week or next... The only costs have been gas, changing fluids, tires and the timing belt. Drives like a dream...

My 2006 Pilot has 205k miles on it. Check engine light comes on every two weeks or so which trips the VSA. Not sure I am going to pump any money into it to fix. Plus I have the timing belt and water pump that has to be replaced every 105k miles. That cost is $2000k. Our Pilot has been rock solid for 18 years.

Valve adjustment ... my mdx did the same thing and a valve adjustment cured all that , my vsa light would come on same same ... Not really a lot of money to have somebody do it if you cant do it yourself . Its pretty easy on these with the only cost being a couple gaskets ...Valve adjustment is required service on these engines and should be done at least every 60,000 , I think the book calls it at 30,000 , dont remember ...And dont forget the timing belt and water pump every 100,000 ... Required

@@jeffreybodine2897 Thanks, I am not a mechanic. Would you suggest going to Honda? I took it to a garage I trust and they had no answer except a tune up and might need a gas pedal throttle sensor? And they want $1500.

$2000k is two and a half payment for a new Honda, spend the money to fix it way cheaper than a new car.

    • @re8746
      @re8746 24 дня назад

@@dustinryan9671 I agree about the payment. Not comfortable spending or dropping any coin on a car with 200k on it. Probably going to keep it in garage as a backup rid.

@@re8746 I own three trucks and a small car all of them are 20 years old, all of them I fix myself. Learn how to turn wrenches it will literally save you $10's thousands of dollars in ten years. Putting a new engine in your car is around $8k if you paid for it still cheaper than $70k new car.
