  • California’s housing crisis involves everything from the affordability and availability of homes to homelessness, and there’s not one, simple solution.
However, two Northern California companies are trying to shake things up in the construction industry. Instead of conventional, “stick-built” homes, they are using a 3D printer, something they think will make a big difference in the future.

People will only begin to overprice the land instead of the house

Or just do leased land like they do in Florida with the manufactured home communities

I like how that developer Christopher Brown (!) states the problems with home building, then says they're risk adverse because they know what works instead of educating and adopting new methods.

Tiny Houses, even Tiny Houses on foundations are having the same code/regulation difficulties.

Concrete will get hot and explode… shattering into a bunch of flying rocks.
Retrofit work will also be more of a hassle. Maybe do CIP or even Shotcrete with Formwork that has a liner to look ascetically pleasing, and the inside walls will be flat, where you can have a better surface to attach to during retrofit work. We can do up to 2400sf of wall area in one placing or shoot, and it would only take 4 days to do starting from the top of footings. This system is not really that practical.

unless you have steel covers on the windows those homes will still be vulnerable i like the 3d printed homes but fire proofing is more then concrete homes

Yes very true. And no one is printing roofs - that is a tougher problem.

There is an oversupply of shipping containers. Container homes is a faster, better solution

No. What'll fix it is re-zoning the single family housing areas into multiple family zones and take the ability for random people to sue construction companies over the dumbest stuff

Sorry but I want to fix stuff around my house if it breaks. I am not sure I want to call these people up every time I need to fix the wall or roof.

I'd prefer a bigger home for only 11% more and that also keeps American Jobs going.

The only housing crisis you are about to have is: Where did all the people go?!

Build mass electric transit for free rides. Take a million cars off the roads. Employers increase home based workforce’s. Use those empty parking lots for quick housing and shelter. Boom! Problem is solved. More housing will actually reduce rent increases for all of us over the long term.
