    Your video comes at the perfect time, thank you. I'm the only one in my home who thinks it is cool to turn lights on and off by taking, so we need some switches.

      I used a label maker, printer voice commands and put it on the switches. after 2 people stopped using the switches. Also take a look at Sonoff Mini and Shelly 1 videos and Shelly vs Sonoff

    My alternative is to use a rf 433mhz 4 button key FOB. Using the Sonoff rf bridge I assigned the code emitted from a button to an input boolean in Home Assistant (using Node-Red) to turn it from on to off. So, when I take my meds before noon, the reminder is turned off and I don't get a notification on my phone to take my meds! And it works. And still have three more buttons. :)

    i am looking into using smartthings anything with smartthings and making my own from a wemos d1 mini
    that would equal out to about $3 a button minus batteries
    maybe more if you want a coin cell holder
    i already set up the project on a d1 mini , i plan on using a few with PIR and RCWL radar sensors
    i got it up and working but now i just need to figure out how to edit the sketch so i can have it show up as only one device
    the project has it show up as a bunch of things for using a bunch of pins
    but i want stand alone buttons and sensors without havine a bunch or unsused and duplicate things showing up
    the author of the project said deleting the unused child devices on the ST end would probably cause problems
    so editing the sketch to only have the one device is needed if you don't want a bunch of unused things cluttering up your device list

      These would work over WiFi so what's the latency on D1? I figured anything that is considered remote would benefit from ZigBee a lot. Otherwise you either end up with short battery life on a more responsive device or better battery life but more latency due to sleep policies

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 5 лет назад

      @@notenoughtech well i tested with a PIR and the latency is almost on existent actually but i do plan on running these sensors wired to power
      i would not have any clue how to edit the ST anything sketch to make the deceives conserve energy and enter a sleep state
      since i am just planning on using these for sensors wired to mains via a 5v USB brick i have not really given thought to or researched the feasibility of running them off a battery for long periods, i am sure it has come up in the thread over at the ST forum though but it is a pretty lengthy thread

      oh and i am sure you can also use a raw esp8266 for the ST anything sketch
      so might make it smaller but not sure if it is worth it in the end you probably would need to provide a least a 3.3 v regulator the d1 has all the power regulation on board for $1 more plus the USB to serial
      depends on how small you want the button i guess but i like the size of the d1 minis

    Interesting video Mat. I love xiaomi buttons, they're a bit of a pain to pair, but once done they work fantastically. Also they support 1,2,3,4 clicks and hold options (not only single and double). However I still like and own several amazon dash buttons that I'm afraid they'll become unusable if Amazon drop the support for them in the app. Here's my question: from what I understand the dash buttons configuration is essentially a pairing to the home wifi network that happens through the app. do you know any other way or hack to configure ssid and pwd of the wifi network without using the amazon app?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  4 года назад

      The first gen amazon dash buttons (hardly any out there now) had a web interface where you could simply enter the SSID credentials. 2nd gen buttons are different and it's not as straight forward. Unless amazon pushes an update to all buttons to "kill it" these should attempt to connect to the set up SSID and such you could use ARP method to intercept it.
      What issues did you have with Xiaomi buttons? I have 2 and I found it super easy to pair with Xiaomi Hub and CC2531?

    • @gabrieleantonini8625
      @gabrieleantonini8625 4 года назад

      @@notenoughtech Regarding the issue I had with the buttons, z2m instructions to pair that kind of buttons tell you to keep pressing the reset button each second to avoid button to go to sleep during pairing process (using a CC2531). I was pairing them in my upstairs room through a router so a couple of times I had timeouts. But now as I said, they work great and I love them.
      Talking about amazon dash I was thinking to block at firewall level any communication between dash and external internet, this should primarily avoid those stupid email notifications about the product not been selected. Also it might be good to block any comms between mobile phone (where app is installed) and the dash... or, more simply, whitelist only outgoing arp packets and block all the rest. Still if one day I'll change my ssid or my password I'll be unable to update them... which sucks

      I actually didnt have do anything with the buttons just press pair and CC2351 picked it up quick. Perhaps try without it?
      I would love if Amazon pushed SDK firmware for the IoT buttons once the service is dead. it would make tinkering so much easier

    But there is one big thing missing: How to use the Xiaomi and others as real push buttons inside the Alexa ecosystem that can start a routine ?
    How can I achieve all that, what push buttons were able to achieve ?
    thanks

    You know me Mat, I'll cut a corner if I can... Not quite as functional as it's only a toggle switch but a 3 gang 433MHz switch and D1 mini and some RF modules set me back under a tenner 😀 Good video tho!

      @@notenoughtech sonoff RF is great but double press and triple press are not really an option on the 433, but it is great for Leaks, PIRs and things that don't really need latency

      @@aihysp Actually, if you link the 433 to the raspberry pi instead of sonoff, I can make the double press and long press happen in nodered! :)

      its going from Remote>SonoffRF>Wifi>Lan Cable> Switch >another Router > autmation PC so its a long way

    I need to find a smart button to turn my AppKettle on from the comfort of my sofa in the living room. I'm thinking the Xiaomi button but heard it only really works in "their" ecosystem of products ☹️

      If you get a nodered server (can run on a $5 raspberry pi) and $4 cc2531 you will be able to mix and match ecosystems
