FOR THOSE THAT CANT GET THE FIRST ONE TO WORK on the displacement map controls, click where it says source next to the layer of layer selector and change it to effects and mask, that worked for me

This was a great tutorial! NOTE: If you, like me, got to the expression in the first effect and it just wouldn't animate, lower the time value from 1000. I spent more time then I would like to admit before I just turned that down to 500 and it animated correctly.
Had the same issue, for me it was because I was using a longer clip than in the tutorial (3 minutes long) and the reason it stopped animating was because the 'time * 1000' value was maxing out after 1 minute. The fix was doing '(time % 20) * 1000' which basically resets the Evolution value every 20 seconds.
Does anyone know how to get the plus signs in the background? It was solid black at 3:52 but when he came back from talking about the starter pack it was already added at 5:44.
Really great video. I added the posterize time effect to the precomposition that had the linear wipe effect. that way I can make it look more choppy by changing the frame rate since everything else in the video is a keyframe hold.
I want to use the effect to make a person appear in the video at a point in time. I do something similar with CC Scatterize to make someone disappear in a cloud of particles, this would be applied in reverse. Have to split layer twice, create a background layer and mask around the person and apply CC Scatterize.
A question, but the distortion can also be done with different effects and not simple horizontal rectangles like here? I'm sure so, I just wanted confirmation and maybe some advice about it, thank you.
How do you exclude a layer from this effect? I have an animation running below my text, and I don't want the animation to have the glitch effect, but can't seem to find where you prevent that.

@@finalxcx the visibility of the layer. There is an eye icon on the left in your list of layers of your composition You click it to turn visibility of the layer on and off

Hi guys ! I have a problem with the Fractal Noise effect, once "time*1000" wrote the effect of speed appear but not up to the end of the timeline... Somoeone know a way to extend the effect ?
When you precompose the Fractal Noise comp, make sure you use “Move all attributes into the new composition” so that the Fractal Noise effect stays on the solid layer and moves into the precomp. If you “Leave all attributes” instead, the solid will be precomposed but the Fractal Noise effect will remain in the main comp and apply to the precomp layer, and thus be invisible to the Displacement Map effect. (copied from adobe forum)
can someone help me? im new? at the first effect the displaced map will just move my letters. it will not mess with them. it will just move my whole word (i typed this word in After effects) and for the second effect it just changes the colors really quick and then goes back to what it was.
1st effect, the adjustment layer should refer to the source of the 'map composition' and that is the Fractal noise on the black solid inside that composition. Now it should start to glitch.
I must be missing something because i followed these instructions twice and no animation... I can only assume its because you're assuming we all working with a black background

Make a simple plus sign and add motion tile to it, it should work.

Really great video. I added the posterize time effect to the precomposition that had the linear wipe effect. that way I can make it look more choppy by changing the frame rate since everything else in the video is a keyframe hold.

For some reason when following your method after writing*1000 the words didn't split so you can use a image to do it instead

Ok, my map layer didn't turn off automatically, like it did in the video. Do it manualy and it should work then. Hope this helps someone

hold on try changing the source to masks and effects and then unhide the adjustment layer

I had the same issue with the Displacement Map -- I changed the dropdown from Source to Effects & Masks and it seems to work.

If you can, lower the output width and height amount.
