yay so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the inspo!! Haha that's what I was thinking while I was editing this, like why do I think someone is going to come for me when this project is self-enforced 😅
I recently did a sort of "Makeup minimalism" challenge? I went on vacation a month ago and I was too lazy to unpack my makeup into my vanity so I've just been working out of the bag. I generally pack the same things for every weekend away from home, which for me has taught me that all I really * need * is what's in the bag, and my large vanity is all the stuff I need to use up/declutter Obviously there are exceptions (eg a couple of lipstick or palette options) but generally I could be in a scenario where I lost my whole main makeup collection and I'd be....totally fine with it
ooh that's neat so you've accidentally been doing the challenge. Yeah I think for the most part I would be fine with it, with the exception of palettes and lip products as you said!
I did this challenge a couple of years ago! It was great fun. :) It really showed me how little I needed to own and use to get all the looks I wanted. It was a great experiment. I curated my own palettes using magnetic singles, and modelled them off the MUG Matrix palettes with mattes and shimmers mixed. I had a great time, and found I was able to create similar looks from different palettes that I was craving. It was great fun. I was sad to put the palette away at the end of the 30 days. I think that was the turning point for me with panning, where I realised I could use the same thing more than a couple of times in a row without getting too bored as long as I had variety. My panning really got better after that. Good luck with your challenge! Enjoy your products!
Oh also if you have a foundation combination you always use, and you never use the individual units of makeup alone, mix them into a tub - such as an empty face cream tub - and then you only have the one unit of foundation rather than all the seperate elements - Signed, my pale olive skintone that needs *minimum* 3 different foundations to get the right shade
hahaha wow 3 that is impressive - I don't think I'll do that in this particular case just because I only have a tiny amount of the Covergirl one left and much more of the Becca so the proportions wouldn't work out, but that's a super helpful tip!!
I prefer to have them separate cause I change proportions in the summer or after I get a tan on vacation. I think it's not a big deal to have more than 1 unit if it genuinely serves a purpose.
In my case, I use practically the same face products - I don't have many of them. Every two weeks I change the eyeshadows and highlighters (I use two at a time and blend them together with a second brush before applying the bronzer - this way the highlighter does not create line on the cheek ).
I kind of do this, in that I have a biweekly makeup bag that I switch out and use 90% of the time. But I'm also not doing it on purpose, so I don't restrict myself from reaching for something different when I want it!
I used to try to do something similar but I found the bag would just grow and grow over the course of the month or two - and I didn’t even consciously add things to it, it just happened
@@laralikesmascara I could see that happening if I didn't bounce between living at my place and another! That's the only reason the bag exists in the first place. If it doesn't fit well in the bag, it goes back in the vanity
@@Sarah-zk4je ooh ya that makes sense - i think probably a lot of people have a similar situation too if they're frequently at a partner's place or whatnot
I like to have a full collection but only use a small amt of select products until I'm done. Then I just shop my stash. I don't just do that with makeup but with body care skin care even clothes. I don't know what you would call it? Mixamalism?
I really enjoyed this! I just started shopping my stash every two weeks and so far haven't gotten bored, but I also don't wear makeup everyday. I do wonder though if you'll get bored with the eyeshadow palette, just because it doesn't have a ton of variety, but I'm looking forward to seeing the looks you come up with!
@@laralikesmascara I have way more make up, but I was raised to finish something before I open something new and I like to have kind of a signatur look. The downside of this is sometimes I don't wear make up matching my outfit or the season. The positive side is I don't have desiccion fatigue. Let's see how your experiment turns out.
This is so interesting! I remember both of shawna’s videos for this! I haven’t really seen other people do it maybe 1 other person but I like the fact others are getting into it. I’m just so curious about it, I think it’s something that ends up different for everyone. I did this to myself some time ago. I noticed I could handle the same eyeshadow look everyday, h r I can’t stand wearing 1 lip color every day. I love options for my lips. But that’s all I could recall.
Just want to let you know that you're not the only one living in two different cities during the month/weeks. So that way I feel like I'm naturally rotating between some of my products. But it makes panning a little bit more challenging 😅
Just curious : does that mean your not gonna reach for the pan those eyeshadows or the other project pan items for the whole month 👀? For the setting apart you can open it an put the bit that's left on the bigger container that you have and start using that one ! :) I think you should've picked another lipstick as well for variation just because I know you don't really enjoy those 😳 but you can top the lipstick with eyeshadow/ blush or bronzer to change the color a bit :) I do that all the time and that way you use the other products in a different way :)
Good question because I've been trying to figure this out too!! I really wanted to do this project but there wasn't ever going to be a good time because I'm also doing the pan those eyeshadows every month - so I think i'm just going to put that on hold for one month and update it a month later than planned :)
@@laralikesmascara I actually thought that because you don't like your selection for you pan those eyeshadows this month that you were only having them for a month instead of two or something like that (because you don't upload an update every month :))
Why does this sound like this month is just not ya month to do a “minimalism challenge”? XD Either way pretty interested to see how if turns out. For me personally, it wouldn’t be a challenge since my makeup routine stays practically the same with one item in each category. Especially when i’m starting to use my foundation mix together with setting powder as my concealer lately. 😅
Haha yeah it probably would have been better to choose a different month to do the challenge, when I’m not constantly on the move… but I don’t know if that will ever be the case so 🤷🏼♀️ probably a year ago in peak covid would have been better
OK i am HERE for this. You make up your own rules, it's your project 😅 i still don't think it's cheating to use 2 foundations to get your best shade

So excited for this video!! I would love to do this challenge as well and eventually create seasonal makeup capsules
Yeah this would be so fun for particular times of year like summer and fall as well!!

yay so glad to hear it!! Hope your stash shopping it going well :)
When my setting spray starts running low and I have the spotchy spray pattern I will spray it on my beauty blender to press it into the makeup
ooh that's a good tip!!
For you it's a challenge, for me it's my normal everyday life. I only switch eye shadows every month, everything else stays the same.

This is a weird thing to say, but in this case may be fitting: I'm kind of glad I'm allergic to dairy products. 😬😬😬😬🥛🧀🍦🍨🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫
That makes sense to me! It kind of removes the choice - you don't have to think about whether or not to have dairy so it's easier in a way
@@laralikesmascara yeah and tbh there are so many dairy alternatives that either taste the same or are just as good imo😊
