As a former dancer I had one of these talks, it hit me hard but after that I went into grind mode. I haven’t danced in years but people still recognize me as that big girl who went hard on that field 💪🏾💅🏾.
She should have pulled her to the side and gave her this conversation one on one. This girl is obviously going through something and public humiliation isn’t going to help.
Why would she treat her differently from her dance team mates? They are a team if the coach can see this all the other dancers see it too. All dancers get called out or critiqued in the open so should she. Do not treat her like she have a disability. Treat her like she is able and she is holding her ownself back because of her insecurities. Of course she look a little different so people going to look. Sooo give them something to look at !!

I had a coach like this in school and I appreciate him so much cause he would call us out as a unit and individually and tell us why he was pointing us out and the reason. We had total 1 loss our entire season but it also made us really well rounded, disciplined and we all did well even when he wasn’t looking. Cause he would pop up in our classes if he heard different. Great role model

It’s a team effort, what she lacks affects the entire team. In class with the teacher you get called out for disrupting or clowning around & not paying attention, why is this any different? When the team loses because of one person or a few doesn’t stop the coach from calling whoever out. If you want to be a part of something outside of yourself you have to do what it takes the team represents the whole not “I” “Me” it’s we so this conversation was necessary because the team is a body!
This is why I don’t get people who compare Coach D to Abby Lee Miller. Abby tore those girls down, Mrs D was strict but she didn’t make the girls feel like they were worthless.
I admire this kind of guidance and advice. Because people really need it and they need it a lot sooner than later. But what annoys me too is shows like this showing adults talking tough to kids but not coming with the same energy when dealing with adults. It starts to look like we're pampering adults and cutting kids with heavy criticism. The only time an adult gets real with another adult in these reality show set ups is when it's about to be drama and fights. If you think kids can handle it, so can these reckless, half-assing 20, 30, 40, and 50 year olds.
