Hi! So this video is probably the last of the 'cost of living in Indonesia'. As we said, we didn't expect that we would need this much per month. But let's not forget, we are a family with a child who needs to go to school and that does make a big difference comparing to those living in Indonesia as a digital-nomad, retirees, or couple. Also, location is also important. If you live way up north in Bali nearby Singaraja or Lovina and you find a house in a housing complex, then yes....you will need far less. But unfortunately, we are dependent on the location of schools, so then as a family, you are likely to end up in a 'hotspot'. That said....we hope you did find this video useful. Thanks again for watching and letting us know you like the video! We already commented on your question in our other video. But we removed the link because we only want to promote online business ideas that we fully stand by. At the end, the one we mentioned in the video wasn't what we hoped so we took it down. Cheers! Matt and Monico
Thank you! Yes I would say Indonesia is pretty safe. Of course there is always petty crime but so far, after many times of travelling en living there we never experienced anything bad.
That's a lot!! Of money you guys must have been living in a nice area with luxuries or upper middle class lifestyle. I know people who are getting by on $600 to $700 usd a month living lower budget but not poor. I mean you guys are talking about having personal drivers personal cleaners gardeners obviously that's not a lower cost lifestyle. You guys are taking monthly trips around Indonesia I mean that's why you are spending that kind of money. Then you are talking about the spa and getting massages you are living that real good lifestyle not a budgeting lifestyle. I mean I'm happy for you all the power to you being able to have that kind of lifestyle. I'm living in the USA for under $1,500 a month as a person of 1 but I don't live a luxury lifestyle just the basics and I'm good to go. I don't mind living the way I do to much I mean who doesn't want to have more money right lol. Do you guys ever travel and try to live on a low budget and frugal lifestyle like a person in the place you are visiting making minimum wage? Just curious if you have done any low budget type of traveling. I'm sure it's a little bit harder with a younger kid than if you were a couple with no children.
Hi thanks for watching and commenting on our video. Yes, USD3500 is a lot. Far more then you actually need when living in Indonesia. This video is really based on what we need if we would live in Indonesia (health insurance, travel expenses, schooling not to mention sports etc, visa, eating out....it all adds up). If you would do the bare living expenses then it would be far cheaper....definitely. Especially if you are by yourself. You don't need much. When it was just the two of us, we has about USD1500 a month. Which was a lot too, but we needed to do a lot of visa runs and internet was really expensive at that time etc etc. It all depends on your lifestyle, why you want to move abroad (upgrade of livestyle, more traveling etc) and being financially secure. You don't want to move to the other side of the world to live long term on a tight budget. We believe you need to be financially secure to be able to handle unexpected expenses so you don't have to return back to your original country empty handed. Especially with a child. We are talking about immigrating to Indonesia, not just staying a couple of month (=long term holiday) or just a year. Cheers! Matt and Monico
What about PR and citizenship in Indonesia can you please guide for a family of three husband wife and 2 year kid is there any way to move to Indonesia
Hi! thanks for your comment. We understand you disagree. The cost of living is low in Indonesia. From our experience, we have learned that the cost of living in another country is far higher than expected. Far more than the locals. Our budget is based on a family with a child who needs to go to school. Plus we added travel expenses, visa agencies, an emergency flight back to the Netherlands plus savings for later. We are not nomads looking for a place to live for just a couple of months. For us, living abroad is settling in and living for years to come. And for a country like Indonesia, you just need to be prepared. Things change and if you are living on a tight budget you don't want to leave the life you built. We made that mistake when we lived in Bogor for a year. So these numbers are what we expect based on our own experience. Hope this clarifies some things! Thanks for watching and have a great day! Matt and Monico

Hoi! Super fijn om te horen, dank je! Plannen om naar Indonesië te verhuizen? Veel geluk. Groetjes Matt en Monico
I always wondered what it would cost us to live there - to compare with Costa Rica ...Thanks again!!
Yes so true, we always find it interesting to compare costs between countries. Thanks for checking out our video!
As a trader I won't have most to worry about work but my wife there have her own home so I don't pay for living just food and bills
That makes it even more attractive and nice to move or live abroad (/Indonesia). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Matt and Monico
Nice channel! Just happened across it.
Would you say Indonesia is a relatively safe country for expats?
Thank you! Yes I would say Indonesia is pretty safe. Of course there is always petty crime but so far, after many times of travelling en living there we never experienced anything bad.
