The 54600B is a very good oscilloscope . The ADS5012H it is a good toy

One channel vs two channels, fair comparison.

That was kind of the point of the video. I was showing what you can get for the same price. In my opinion the money is better spent on an old dual channel scope rather than a cheap new one with fewer features. In fact some old scopes are better than more expensive new ones. For example the 54600B is a better scope for a beginner than half the new low cost bench scopes (in my opinion).

What problems did the HP have before fixing?

One channel was giving a constant off screen value so the trace could not be seen.

I have a HP54602B and a unlocked Rigol DS1054 (100mhz). I still prefer using the HP when troubleshooting car amps or circuits with wide voltage ranges.
The HP has a feature called auto lvl trigger. It automatically shifts the trigger lvl for you. Triggering 20v and -20v rails without me touching the scope.
The Rigol is superior when I have to troubleshoot deeper or decoding signals.

I would pick the HP54600B over the cute little hand held thingie!!

I think the “anti burn” technology is just OVP/OCP. Students are often burning out channels on their first oscilloscope. So “burn” in case does not mean flames.
However a battery powered oscilloscope wouldn’t be grounded, so this device should be immune to ground loop shorts. But if powered from USB, is the ground on the BNC directly connected to the ground shield on the USB port? I assume it would have to be.

It's more than enough for my job (TV) I can see PWM signal,, burst in chrome, LVDS, etc and I get see 100Mhz without problem. what else,! thanks a lot .

    Handheld is quieter.

I would definitely take the HP scope over that Chinese crap.

I agree. I think that a even an old 'real' quality scope is better than the cheap modern ones.

100MHz repetitive signal bandwidth for the HP 54600B, but only 2MHz single shot bandwidth due to the 20 MSa/s sample rate. If you manage to get lucky with a good deal on a similar but later 54621A or 54622A you get a 200 MSa/s sample rate and the MegaZoom sample memory depth. You also get Asteroids instead of Tetris.

I picked the 54600B because it has the same general specification as the ADS51012H. I wanted to keep the competition as fair as possible. The specified bandwidth is for the Analog front end and not the signal processing which is why I made the point that it is a digital scope and not an analog scope. I may make another video comparing them both against a 100MHz analog scope. The real point is to try to show how general specifications can be missleading but I am trying to demonstrate the differences rather than state them so that anyone watching the videos can make up their own mind.
