I have been waiting for my spousal visa for more than a year now. Last month I was declared undesirable at OR Thambo and banned from entering SA for 5 years, since I did not have a valid visa anymore. This despite the fact that I am married to a South African and applied for a spousal visa 13 months ago. I lodged an appeal to overturn the decision but the only contact I've had with DHA was with Ms Mamokolo Sethosa, the private secretary to the minister, who told me that that she would take my name off the blacklist if I offered a bribe. Nobody at DHA gives a flying f*ck about people awaiting their visa outcomes. Anyone who is waiting for a visa outcome and thinks they can travel in and out of the country in the meantime: DO NOT DO IT. It is highly likely that immigration officers are blacklisting people to ask for bribes when they turn around and try to appeal the decision. South Africa is broken..

I'm an expat, my husband I are part of the 20% paying taxes so that the other 80% have some semblance of infrastructure. Trust me when I say, that if this situation doesn't improve, and improve soon, we will GLADLY take our skills and money elsewhere. This is all about DHA & VFS getting bribe money, but what the government doesn't seem to understand is that the expats who need visas - will not tolerate this kind of corruption. The government here really doesn't have a single clue - that their actions WILL have consequences. Matter of fact, the consequences have already started- pretty soon the majority of people who actually do pay taxes will leave. And then anyone left here will have to figure out how to run a country with no money.

Does this show that the current government know what they are doing. the entire government looks confused. to day we get declaration of state of disaster on electricity and the next day we backtrack, we say we want to reduce cabinet and we increase cabinet tomorrow. it is a mess of a government. i have never seen a government that's unsure about anything as the current ANC government.

It's a deliberate move by the government and it's external agencies to reap people off. They are promoting fast track Visa processing at an exorbitant cost. This will not stop because they know people are desperate. Nowadays, the process of applying for UK or US visa costs more than R5000 irrespective of the duration. It's all madness.
