I watched the Carol Bernet show fairly regularly but I don't remember that skit. I need to quit watching these old pieces, these two jokers will give me a heart attack from laughing so hard, great way to go. Keep up the good work.

I watched an interview about this skit, what people didn’t realize was Tim had a vasectomy the day before this skit was taped. That’s why when he was dropped on his butt while hanging off the periscope he was grimacing. The periscope landed on his groin. 5:04
I just watched a video here on RUclips where Tim and Harvey were talking about the times they broke character and laughed themselves. This skit was mentioned. Tim just had a vasectomy a day or two before this skit was filmed and it really hurt when he fell on his tail on the periscope. Harvey asked him how he was, hence the face he made.

Good comedians can put the show first. Terry Scott had a major boil on his bum when they filmed 'Carry On Camping' and he had to play at being shot in the arse by a farmer.

Carol Burnett's show was the funniest show on the air at the time of the 1970's and the best part was it was all clean fun no foul language at all just hinted on it once in a while which made their shows even funnier.
Don't forget *Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In* , it was pretty dang popular too! 😎👍

What the audience wasn't aware of about this sketch was that Tim Conway had gotten a vesectomy that day and so when he landed on the floor hanging from the telescope, he was in real pain.
I wish I could find the kamikaze skit that Tim Conway did when he was trying to explain the original concept to Japanese pilots.
Just listened to an interview where they said that Tim had had a vasectomy earlier that day, and that the "frolic" with the periscope was genuinely painful to him. What price comedy?
I saw that too and wondered if this was the skit.
You can see Conway talking to Korman in English (drowned out by the laughter) that yes, he clearly was in pain. I saw the same video where Conway explained that he did his own vasectomy and Korman adds that he also removed his own prostate. Funny stuff.

nobody knew how much pain Tim was in when he fell on his butt. Did you see his face? He recently had a vasectomy. "OUCH" Harvey said he asked him "hows it going? And you can see the look on Tims face.

How many of you were expecting the periscope to go between his legs? So surprised TC missed that 1. As for my family? @Raymond Logan it's different when white people make fun of white people, or black people calling each other the n-word, than it is making fun of another ethnic group, and especially if there is a history of racism and bigotry towards an entire race of people. we saw the same thing with japanese americans as did jews in nazi germany... and racist stereotypes like this were used on all asian cultures, this wasn't specific to japanese people. racist americans saw no distinguishable differences between chinese, japanese, sourth korean, or vietnamese... i grew up in the military, lived in japan, and "j-p" was used like the "n-word" by white people, and i i heard it for decades after the war, it was intended to be a slur, not humorous. it's a completely different context. so fuck you.
