Explaining Reiki To Skeptics

- Explaining Reiki to Skeptics can be a daunting task because Reiki, fundamentally, is something that is intangible . However...I hope with the points that I cover in this video not only will you be able to explain your Reiki practice to others...but further even the most ardent skeptics will understand what this thing called Reiki is...and perhaps they will even see that they have been practicing Reiki longer then they thought!
I hope you enjoy this video and that it helps your Reiki practice and the discussion of your Reiki practice to others!

Thanks for watching and I hope you've enjoyed my thoughts on Explaining Reiki To Skeptics!
Thank you so much for your video!!! I am just starting my Reiki practice and I am on the same page of just explaining it just from Reiki aspect (I still use all the tools I just don’t introduce them to the main stream of people because like you said it can turn others away!!). Again thank you!!
My pleasure Joy and glad you enjoyed the video!! Reiki is a beautiful journey...enjoy every step 😀!
How did it work for you?
My father used to say " just because you don't believe it does that mean it is not true?"
A great line of thought to apply to this video! Thank you for the comment!
@@RootsofLifeWow! What an amazing video. I am a practitioner and like you I also like and use the other more “Gu gu” tools but definitely makes more sense to keep Reiki organic and only use them if we know that the person is already into Crystals, sage and other tools. Also this video will help me a lot in explaining what Reiki is in a simple way!
My father used to say “ just because you believe it, does that make it true?”
Nothing is certain. We are limited by our senses. Who kmows, maybe we have senses that are not known to our consciousness. They will not be known to science either to be proven.
woah I say this all of the time!!!
Thank you. As a science teacher transitioning into reiki practitioner this helps greatly. ❤
Thank you, I'm glad the video helps! Prior to moving into Reiki full time I was also a teacher (physical and social sciences - Economics, Astronomy, etc). I hope the transition goes well. If I can be of assistance, please reach out!
@@RootsofLife thanks, I really appreciate it. 🙏
I really like to listen to how other Reiki practitioners tackle this challenge. I really like how you said that the more you reduce the story the better.
Thank you for the kind comment I appreciate it!
Thank you for this explanation. My niece is a Reiki master and has worked on me quite a bit over the years. It really helped me when I had cancer and having bad effects from the chemo, immunotherapy and steroids. I'm now in remission (for a year and a half) and I feel Reiki helped with that also.
Thank you for the comment and I'm glad to know Reiki has been helping you with your journey!
Yeah I'm not a reiki master and me waving my hands around my mom also cured her and made her feel amazing. Which means reiki is bs. Its monetizing something which everyone has acsess to. Its a bullshit way to restrict the natural healing powers people have by monetizing and gatekeeping and making it into some special magic thing you have to pay for to be special when it's not that at all. Even my cat can do reiki.
I so agree with what you are saying about the other modalities like the new age stuff. I like to use reiki on horses because they are open to it if they need it. They are very responsive and release. I have had horses come to me in a field if they need it. I don’t get heat as much but I get a circling energy in the palm of my hands.
Thank you, I'm grateful for your comment and keep up your practice!
That’s interesting and a beautiful gift for both you and the horses you work with. I sometimes feel that circular energy in my palms, sometimes feel tingling or slight trembling, but most often feel heat.
My Geandmaster in martial arts is also considered a healer in Reiki. We sat down once and he told me that long ago Martial Artist were not called Martial artist, They were Scholars, Cooks, Doctors and Protectors. They dedicated themselves outside of their own selfish desires and became selfless and caring of others.
That really set a spark in my heart and when I asked about Reiki he said "I am not a Healer, I just help them heal properly."
100% - love it! Thank you for the comment!
I’ve been trying for years to really understand reiki but your explanation has made the most sense. It sounds almost like a mindfulness meditation that is led one of one by another person. Reinforcing attention to certain areas through physical or near physical touch. Thank you!
Thank you for the comment - indeed at some point Reiki can be viewed as similar to a mindfulness meditation - I think the main difference though is within Usui Reiki Ryoho the final aim would be to work towards a mind and body that is silent, so perhaps one step beyond mindfulness. However, this is difficult to achieve, so keeping a practice that reinforces attention to one area of the body is already such a beneficial practice
Your perception is so helpful! Thank you.😊
You are so welcome - and thank you for the comment!
I’m learning to understand and loved your first example. My take away is that reiki is a style of healing that allows you to freely find awareness. Navigating family emotional trauma and also as a runner who occasionally falls and gets hurt the “instincts” you first mentioned is a part of what helps me through some of it. On the other end, I’ve learned to know the kinds of pain or mental discomfort that i can push through. Maybe the skepticism with reiki is that most people especially in western culture have more experience with the style of healing by movement or action. Healing that isn’t as focused on finding awareness. I interpret reiki being on the complete opposite end because i see it as more of a kind of meditation. Which doesn’t seem like being popular yet in a fast paced western culture
Freely finding awareness - I think that's a perfect way to put it! If we allow that awareness to arise freely then we are not forcing with the mind, but more towards surrendering the mind and body - much as we do when we sleep - and this, I think, helps us understand how Reiki helps us to heal.
Thanks for the comment!
I'm so appreciative of the perfect examples of how instinctive Reiki is to EVERYONE! Thank you for sharing these golden nuggets. ✨

Easy to believe…when you consider quantum physics, energy, and the fact that we are all connected! Everything is made of baryonic material☺️, atoms moving..both particles and waves..even inanimate objects. Thanks for what you do, God bless!✨✨
Thank you for the comment, I do appreciate it! Indeed - all is connected!
This is my first time in your channel, and I really like the way you explained reiki. I am searching within my soul and this was a great place to start learning more
Thank you for the comment and I'm grateful to know that my video helped you! I wish you the best with your journey!
This is such a great explanation! When I work with my clients it’s all about the touch and holding that space. Wonderful messages 🙏
My pleasure and thank you for the kind comment!
This makes so much sense. I've been intuitively placing my hand on my heart at night.
I did it last night and I had both sweet dreams and beautiful nightmares.
I'm going to my first group reiki healing session tonight. I'm ready for this healing! 💚
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoyed the group session!
As an intuitive healer and RMT, I have to concur. Everything you have said here is on point. I dress like a normal person and hold sessions in a very basic basic setting. Occasionally I will add a crystal if called for but beyond that I simply use soothing music, dim lightand take the client. Do a peaceful relaxing place so that they can receive what it is that they need.. Thank you for sharing.
The general public need more awareness so that their fears can be Set aside.
And they can open to alternative ways of healing their own bodies.
Thank you for the comment, I'm grateful you enjoyed the video!
Crystals have been proved not to work in scientific experiments. It's all in the mind.50 people were given real crystals and 50 were given glass fake crystals. They were all told to expect various sensations such as heat and tingling when holding the crystals.Just as many reported sensations from the glass crystals as were reported from those holding the real crystals. There is no power in a crystal.
That was such a beautiful way of putting it. While I’ve always been a believer of Reiki, I’ve never really had. It explained that way. It has allowed me to see Reiki in a more profound way. Thank you so much.❤
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed and I'm grateful for the comment!
The simplest way to understand reiki, is to look at its synonyms. Every time you read the word “Reiki,” replace it with the word, love. That’s something we all understand. Love is universal the purest form of light. We all have it in our heart.
100%!
Best explanation i found so far. Also love your neutral approach. I totally agree! ❤
Thank you, I'm grateful that the video resonates with you! I appreciate the comment!
🙏 thnx for your explanation ☺️ About twelve years back I participated in Reiki, received a first attunement, but left the Reiki path, when I got in touch with Quantum Touch, another healing modality. No symbols whatsoever, all about our just loving intention, a simple breating technique . Being a Dutchman (86) I have difficulties using those symbols .. 🙏
Thank you for your comment and I'm grateful you enjoyed the video. I'm glad you found Quantum Touch and that it is a great fit for you!
Great explanation!! I’m level 2 Reiki practitioner. It’s never easy to explain how it works. Skepticism can be a wall for some people
Thank you for your comment and I'm glad the video may be of help in explaining Reiki. Enjoy the journey with your practice!
I don't know how badly you've sprained your ankle but when I did really badly, I wasn't breathing slowly(either holding my breath and groaning or breathing really quickly), my heart was pounding(I could feel it in the swelling in my ankle), and I didn't want to touch it. I also have yet to see someone actually touch the broken part of the bone they just broke, maybe near it but not on it. So that right there does make it actually arguable. Along with the fact that your body goes through physiological changes (hormone release, etc.) that take place when you're in a deep sleep state. You also still heal while you're awake, healing doesn't stop after you sleep. Ultimately, the skepticism comes from the fact that the "energy" that you're talking about and manipulating isn't objectively detectable or quantifiable. I'm fine with Reiki being something that heals through the fact that, as humans, we like a caring touch and it's relaxing, also receiving personal attention from another is calming and soothing. If it was just that, like a different kind of "massage", it would have utility, no additional supernatural explanation needed.
There is absolutely nothing supernatural about the movement of energy, how do you think your phone works?? And just because you don’t touch your owies, you assume that other people don’t either? First thing I have done all my life is to lay my hands on an injury and rub. If it’s actually bleeding, I staunch the flow by pressing it hard. If my head hurts, I lay my fingers on my temple and massage. Maybe you don’t touch your injuries, but most people do.
Thank you for the comment - so in the video you may recall that I was noting that I'm not referring to serious trauma (such as you've described) but more minor sprains or traumas that don't require medical attention. And further, yes of course we continue to heal when we are awake - it's simply that when we sleep we are able to heal much more effectively. I fully agree that there is a lot of language in the Reiki world that is off putting, and for good reason - and I wish the world of Reiki would do more to remove such supernatural language from the practice. This is a point that I'm consistently making across my channel in my other videos.
I hope this helps clarify and thanks for the comment!
Well, no amount of “energy” is going to fix a broken bone without medical attention.
Maybe a better phrase here would be “twist your ankle” as that typically refers to a more mild form of a sprain or you can twist it and cause pain without actually spraining the joint. 🤷🏻♀️
The whole point of the initial comparison was to point out that we naturally will grab an area in mild-moderate pain and regulate breathing until the pain starts to subside. Think, when you wrack your funny bone, get some form of cramp, have a headache, or tension in the body. Chances are you may start to rub that area of the body even subconsciously.
I feel like western practitioners mostly use reiki as a “spiritual realignment” and to bring up “trapped” emotions that may be contributing to conditions such as anxiety and depression.
As far as that supernatural comment goes… keep in mind that science is limited by the technology that we have and the research we put into the subject. Western medicine doesn’t focus on holistic approaches like this so research for it is not in abundance. Also just because we don’t have a detectable or quantitative way to measure something in this present moment does not mean that we will have one in the future, but again; that would require someone willing to put in the research to advance the technology needed for that problem. A good supernatural example of this would be the existence of spirts or other dimensions. We don’t have enough evidence to say that these things don’t definitively exist so any observations surrounding that subjects is left as unexplained phenomena.
Thank you so much for this invaluable way to describe how Reiki works! ❤ xxxx

In the West, it is a new idea, it can not be proven or seen, to me, much like religion. I have lived in Kansas my whole life, and yet I feel like I see the ideas as the same thing, in both, the stronger the belief the more benefit you get. ❤
As an Exvangelical, such new age ways of thinking were always forbidden to me. Videos like this go a long way towards destigmatizing the practice, especially since, as you so eloquently pointed out, we all do it instinctually to some extent. Thank you for this opportunity to further my own journey.
My pleasure and I'm grateful that my videos are of benefit to your journey!

Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the comment!
As a well practiced massage therapist, I've been fascinated with the idea of reiki for a while.
I had surgery today and immediately felt like I needed to seek out a reiki session. I think emotional wounds were split open and ache in a way that physical wounds can't be managed. I *believe* that I'll feel so much more grounded and lighter at the same time! 😊
Thank you for this!

Thank you for putting this in a way I can understand and share. I’ve been certified for almost 4 years but I don’t use it as often as I want. I want to do it daily. I struggle with self doubt even though I know reiki is the healer and I’m the vessel or tool I struggle. I want to do reiki all day but my job drains me. Thank you. I have subscribed and will watch the rest of your videos. Best wishes to you ❤
Thank you for your kind comment and for your support of my channel! I do hope my content is beneficial to your journey!
Thank you! It's so nice to have a simplified way to explain Reiki. I agree we should not try to "sell" all of the extra healing tools like crystals, feathers, etc. There is a time and place for those. Doing sound baths is another area that is hard to describe to people. We have moved into a time where more and more people are receptive to these healing techniques.
Thank you for your comment and support - I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Speaking to sound, did you see my video on combining Reiki and sound in sessions:

My pleasure, and thank you for watching!
Back in 2013 i was in a mexican prison. One day a blond and handsome dude came to my table and said he wanted to perform a reiki technique on me. He put my left hand between both of his hands without touching. When he started moving his hands I started feeling some kind of magnetism. He said he cleaned my chakras or something like that. I'm atheist and don't believe in any kind of "magic". that shit was weird. I still don't know what that was.
Sounds like you were able to feel the natural energy within all things? If you place your hands in front of your heart, as if you were holding a grapefruit or something similar in size, then see if you can't feel it between your hands as well. It will come
Likely just you feeling the airflow and radiating warmth from his hands as well as him likely also touching hairs on your hand either intentionally or unintentionally. People also tend to be more open to suggestion if a person is very confident, which may have given you a placebo reaction. There are many other explanations, but without seeing the situation myself, those are the best I can come up with.
Perhaps, being in prison, you were completely deprived of any touch. I don't picture prison as a place where people give hugs. "The Halo effect" Is why we psychologically are much more likely to believe and trust someone who is good looking. It's why cults are often "cults of personality". Hypnotists can take advantage of trust and suggestion to quickly and easily convince and manipulate a person of absurd things. Reiki can not be disproved for the same reason most things can't, because there is no way to prove it. Unfalsafiable. People in vulnerable psychological states are much, much more likely to embrace and believe such unfalsifiable claims.
Humans need touch. Humans need connection and to feel safe and loved, to have hope. We need it so much that our minds can literally heal us (placebo) with just an idea. But little more.
Thank you for your time Sir.

Thank you for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I'm grateful that it is beneficial to your practice indeed!
Thank you for your explanation. QUESTIONS: How is Reiki different from a hands-on session with a chiropractor or a masseur/masseuse? How does Reiki music reflect your explanation? As you may know, in Thailand the art of massage is also a spiritual practice carried on for centuries by blind monks in temples. Of course, in today's Thai massage shops it is often practiced for commercial purposes rather than as a spiritual practice, but the monks continue to practice it in certain temples. For example, at Wat Pho in Bangkok you can have a massage by a monk in the massage pavilion. It will likely be the best massage of your life.
I think the main difference may be found in the nature of the practice of Reiki vs. the modalities you've noted. In Reiki, ideally, the aim is to be neutral in the mind and body - beyond even the awareness of who you may be working on. I'd think this is a similar mentality to the monks in Bangkok - more of a meditative practice as opposed to a directional one. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed!
i’m an atheist who’s part of the satanic temple but i just adore reiki, it feels so nice. even if you don’t believe it, it doesn’t mean it’s not real. we can’t be so certain about one specific thing, it’s nice to have an open mindset and accept new things.
Thanks so much for your comment and I'm glad you enjoy your practice!
This was very nice to hear in a very easy conversation fashion. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this. I am disconnected for some time and therefore things are sporadic let's say, but today i overheard someone speaking about reiki in a way that reminded me how how it resonates with me, and hearing that has made me want to reconnect with what it is. I'm really pleased I found your video and was able to hear the intricacies you described in the way you did. I will need to come back to it a couple of times, but you have made a difference to me and my life from what you have shared. Thank you.

Hey thanks brother. I’m a reiki master teacher too, and similar to you I do/use all the other things in a free way.
How would you explain symbols and attunements to people though? To the skeptics I mean.
In the sense, when they ask “what determines the next level and why do we need levels and so on?”

And to your question on the levels and when one may be ready. One is ready when they feel ready to progress. Usui Reiki Ryoho is not simply a healing modality, rather it is a modality that allows us to turn further into the self. That is really what it is about. In brief, the levels of Usui Reiki Ryoho can be viewed as progressive steps deeper into the self. So when one is ready to venture deeper into the self one may consider taking the next step with their understanding of the practice.
I hope that helps!
❤ I just got certified for Level II and am going to my 1st client.. tomorrow...I told her I may incorporate oils, crystals etc at some point but that all that was necessary was intention & belief ... Thank you

great video, thanks a lot 😊
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed!
It works 100 percent
100% :)
But the focus is because there is pain in the area which overrides everything else...
Perhaps, but the practice will help us override the pain and witness it, as opposed to reacting to it, IMO. Thank you for the comment!
Ok so this video is helpful. But to say you can't argue with? The reason we grab the injury site (in this case the twisted ankle) is firstly to protect it. And also to apply pressure which can help reduce pain depending on the injury etc.
As for pregnant mothers touching their baby bumps there are literally hundreds of reasons why they do that. For example to relief the weight their carrying. To self sooth. To connect with the baby/fetus.
These arguements seem very half baked to me. Which is disappointing. I want to understand, but the more I hear the more disbelieving I get. 😭
Thank you for your comment I appreciate it. Perhaps I can add a bit to the video in that Reiki is something akin to a practice that facilitates a focused awareness. So in the example of a twisted ankle - we would benefit from focused awareness in that we would, ideally, be able to mitigate the pain response, or perhaps other stressors that may be accompany the trauma. From here, the body is able to heal more efficiently as we would be working our way back to the parasympathetic state. Perhaps one can see the hand placements as to protect the ankle or apply pressure, I don't know. I would think that, post sprain, one is already sitting down or not putting weight on it so it is likely removed from any further danger, and also I don't know if we would want to apply pressure, but perhaps.
As for the pregnancy example, I agree, there can be hundreds of reasons why, but I think it still goes back to the idea of focused awareness. Regardless of the impetus, focalized awareness is likely still the aim here.
The practice of Reiki is not about healing, rather, it is about a state of being called anshin ritsumei - or to live peacefully in both mind and body. We do this by calming down all the added stressors and external stimuli via focused awareness and, hopefully, with depth of practice, even the last attachment can be let go of so we can just be neutral.
I hope that helps and thank you for the comment.
Very nice. I was master level attuned when I was 19 and am so grateful I found it so early in my journey. I don’t practice professionally. Only doing sessions when the universe brings someone my way that I help. I can help others along their journey down the path to the center of this Infinite Oblivion.
The only skeptic anyone needs to worry about is the one inside their own mind.
That’s the one that sticks with ya.
Once you’ve seen it tho, once you start feeling the energy, the skeptic fades into understanding and truth.
We are one. Source is infinity and is all of us. Sometimes called the unified spirit or collective consciousness or source, or Devine light. We all know it’s true but we agree to forget so that life is fun and exciting. It’s a challenge relearning each time but the more lifetimes your on the path the quicker it speeds up. But that’s now a whole different thing, reiki and ascension thought aren’t directly tied, it’s using the same source energy that’s referenced in EVERY religion. The unified field in quantum physics terms.
😉🙏💜
beautifully said and thank you for taking the time to post your comment! Much appreciated and wishing you the best with your journey.

You are a good speaker, good cadence and tone. You’d be great by eliminating ‘right’ and ‘ok’ at the end of many sentences. Use the ‘um counter’ technique used at Toastmaster meetings. Otherwise, great explanation!

Never explain anything to skeptic, just let them have their little corner of the world.
Thanks for the comment!
This might sound like a stupid question. I eat a raw plant based diet. I feel energy from the freshly harvested plants. A friend who started pranic healing last year is on her first week of a carnivore diet which got me thinking; can the food we eat affect the flow of ki ? I eat mostly raw and preparing my food arugula, avocado, tomatoes etc it just feels so fresh and alive, how does food affect us as Reiki practitioners. 🙏
Hello and thank you for the question - not a silly one at all! I spent some time fully raw vegan, more time fully vegan, and further still more time fully veggie and I believe there is clearly an impact from the food we eat - however, perhaps my take on this is a bit different. For me, it was clear that a raw diet gave me more "energy" but it wasn't balanced. All food gives energy to the body of course, and I was feeling that the more raw and plant based foods I ate the the energy would be felt in a more mental or "higher" way. And what I noticed when I went back to eating meat and heavier foods was that the energy would be more based or dense, so it would help to keep me more "grounded". I'm using general terms here that some may not appreciate and that is fine, and please note this is just an account of my own experience, however I did find that after many decades of plant based living that I found it refreshing and beneficial to my practice to incorporate heavier foods back into my diet. All is a balance in the end and indeed that balance can be obtained in a raw diet if one were to eat more nuts and fats, for example and IMO. I hope that helps!
@@RootsofLife thank you, that helps immensely, and I understand what you mean by being grounded. I was thinking more about this this morning and the thought came to me "eat everything with gratitude, and take time to ask the Divine to bless the food whether it be meat or plant"
@@justaguybeingaguy I agree 100%. If eaten with gratitude and respect - and further if raised with the same gratitude and respect, then I think this is the ideal.
It's nothing more than a belief system...either you belief it or not

Thank you! Very simple! 🙏 And how could you explain distance Reiki session?
Thank you I appreciate the comment. For distance Reiki explained you can have a look at this video I made:
ruclips.net/video/UJchVBPpr5k/видео.html
Your awareness doesn’t go to your ankle because your hands are there. You awareness is there because there is a physiological change that sends signals to your brain that are interpreted as pain. Then once your awareness is already there do you place your hands there
Thank you for the comment. I appreciate it! I believe this is also what I am saying in the video. Around the 2:30 mark, I note that there is - first - a trauma or pain, and then because of that pain, we place our hands instinctively on the site of the trauma. From here, we allow everything else to settle down, and our awareness becomes more focused on the site of the trauma. This is akin to the practice of Reiki in that we are working to quiet down the noise and attachments so the body can do what it naturally does - which is heal.
I'm grateful for the comment and I hope you found the video beneficial!
Thank you for explaining Teiki healing because I am very interested in learning this. I will be definitely looking out for your next videos. I will also look for what you already have posted here.
Thank you for the comment and I'm grateful that my videos and content is beneficial for your journey with Reiki!
I love to digest these video conversations. Thank you for making them!
my pleasure! I'm glad you enjoy them!
True Reiki is Self-Reiki is Mutual Reiki is Zen Reiki.
Thank you, brother,
Cheers!
🤟
100% and thank you!
what is your perception of love with reiki? I was taught that unconditional love is essentially the form of reiki (its energy). I also explain this to my clients as I strongly feel this connection of love toward healing.
I would agree that love=Reiki. Love is the base energy of the universe and it is neutral. As the old adage goes: If you love something set it free.
Neutrality in our practice helps us recognize neutrality outside of the practice.
It was explained to me early in my learning, that love, like a mothers love, one who kisses a boo boo, is a form of reiki energy. It helped me understand the power of that energy, my mom could fix anything!! She loves her children very much!
All this can make sense. But what do you have to prove it is not just an imagined story and actually real?
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. The difficult thing with proving something is the subjectivity of the data used or the approach taken in gaining the information needed for a proof. This is made even more difficult in regards to something intangible and experencial such as Reiki. There are a good number of papers published within the NCBI that talk about the efficacy of Reiki as a practice...some are well powered and done correctly, some could have been more rigirous, and a few are not worth reading.
If you do a search for "Reiki Is Better Than Placebo and Has Broad Potential as a Complementary Health Therapy" you'll find a good paper that sums up a lot of the data.
At the end of the day, these are all subjective experiences still, so for further "proof" I would say the most important approach here is how does it make the individual feel? How is it helping them along? For me Reiki has helped me without a doubt. Some may say that's the placebo effect, if so and there is still positive gains then that's fine. One can further liken Reiki to the efficacy of our own healing when we sleep. To me this is a better summation of Reiki beyond simply just the placebo effect. When we sleep we get out of the way of the self and let the body do what it does naturally...much the same in a Reiki session.
Yesss!! Fantastic video 💯
Thank you I'm very glad you enjoyed the video!
The reason we touch an area that is in pain is because that increases blood flow to that area. Energy doesn't play any role in it other than in the most trivial sense. There's no such thing as an "energy field". There are fields that have energy. Energy is simply the ability of a physical system to do work. It isn't a substance but a property.
Thank you for the comment. The energy that I'm referencing here is the same energy that is found through all things in the universe - it is the energy that arose from the big bang, and from which everything came. Just like the GUT is trying to confirm, if once all was energy, then still, all is energy - as total energy in the system is constant, and we are a part of that system. So, when we place our hands on an area of trauma, for instance, then our mental and physical bodies are able to - hopefully - relax and calm down and prioritize healing via the parasympathetic response. This is much the same as when we sleep. If we get the mind and body out of the way then the whole system does what it does naturally, and what all systems strive to do, which is return to equilibrium. This is a state where the resistance to the flow of energy is minimized, and such resistance within the body, for instance, is the very trauma that one may be placing their hands over. This is akin to the basis of Chinese medicine, and similarly why meditation and relaxation practices are able to stimulate a healing response within the body, because such a response is the ability for energy to flow through the system and the system to move closer to equilibrium.
Everything is energy ✨️
This is how I understand it: in quantum physics, the concept that “everything is energy” comes from the idea that subatomic particles, which make up atoms, exhibit both particle-like and wave-like behaviors.. this wave-particle duality means these particles have energy states and can be described by their energy… even Einstein’s equation E=mc2 supports this. So, at a fundamental level, everything in the universe, being made of particles, can be considered as forms of energy. (Not a quantum physicist, just a woo-woo girl also trying to understand the strange nature of our universe!)
I like your site and your demeanor. I am new so I am a bit skeptical on Reiki. Can Reiki heal physical issues in the elderly like myself?
Thank you for the comment and the kind words, I appreciate it. Reiki is a method that we can use to work towards increased levels of peace in our mind and body, and so as a result of this we are giving our physical body increased opportunities or time to heal itself. So in that regard, yes indeed it aids in healing. Ultimately, however, Reiki is a process to discover internal peace. I hope that helps!
Sorry this doesn’t help me understand Sprained my ankle bad a couple of times and last thing a did was hold it as it’s too tender to hold I elevated it , did anything to not have it move and but ice on it . Any heat comes from your body sending blood to it to help it heal not an energy ?
Thank you for your comment - the example that I'm giving regarding the sprained ankle, as noted in the video, would be for minor/moderate injuries. With more severe injuries of course you may need prompt care. What I'm referring to is our natural instinct to hold wounds or areas of trauma..or conversely, to hold areas of focus on the body. With the practice of Reiki the hands can become much hotter than baseline body temp which is what I'm referring to for the heat.
I hope that helps!
Thank you, this makes perfect sense 🙏🏻
Thank you for the comment and I'm grateful the video has helped!
So the practicioner needs to be healthy _ if not _ possessions. I come from a real trauma family _ the members of my family that goes for this have regressed to childern.
Yes we need to work on ourselves only - work towards a still and quiet mind. This is the path inward and the path that allows healing.
I am quite good at doing energy work. But I am garbage at being able to explain it to people and why it could benefit them. Which is nit ideal when I am trying to start an energy work bussiness.
I can do reiki but I am not restricting myself to it.
Thank you, I hope the video has helped you!
I have a racing heart periodically ….very stressful. Would reiki help ?
Reiki helps to calm the mind and the body, so it is very possible that Reiki can help you. Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it!
Thank you for this video. I've been fairly recently attuned as a Level 1 healer and so far, I've been practising only on myself. I don't get all those experiences like very warm hands or tingling or other stuff like my other batch mates . So in a sense, I feel as though I'm walking around with a blindfold. I often wonder if there's anything happening at all. Does Reiki still flow tho I don't sense much?
Thank you for the comment and your thoughts. Yes, even without sensation Reiki is still flowing as it is simply the energy of all things. With practice, sensitivity to these feelings (heat, etc) may increase...but this is not an indication by any means of depth of practice. If there is any measure to stay focused on in regards to your practice, I would encourage you to keep working towards an ever quieter mind. I hope that helps!
Appreciating the video as a practitioner.. how heal8ng w9rks bit I feel need to speak my truth about the crystals or sage comments. No I d9nt agree that people would be turned away, nor that is "new" age.. crystals are also provide neutrality?? Little confused as to why these other modalities are being measured as decimating the purity of a reiki session w an assumpti9n of how they are rcvd.. taint8ng the reiki???
Thank you for the comment and I'm grateful that you enjoyed the video. I think the point that I'm trying to make here is that incorporating these things into the Reiki discussion may be off putting to a wider audience who may already be viewing Reiki with some skepticism. As I state in the video, I have nothing against all of these and I incorporate them all the time in my personal practice. I think that keeping the conversation around Reiki as simple and neutral as possible is a way to approach a wider audience, which is what I'm trying to convey in this video.
I hope that helps and thank you for the comment!
Thanks for describing Reiki in common terms. Not sure what you meant by "Holding space for the client"? 6:50. Based on your description, shouldn't any person be able to "Lay hands" on themselves and bring their intention to the area of concern, (or without any hand involvement just using intention) and get similar or better results since I would assume each individual's mind/body connections would be naturally in tune with themselves? Thanks. I practice Chi-Kung and trying to understand the parallels.
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. To what I'm meaning here in regards to holding space for the client - is to maintain a neutral position within the Reiki session so that the client may be able to let go a bit further into their own healing. We can't do that if one is assisting from an attached mind or a mind that is focused on the outcome or experience (from the practitioner perspective). Absolutely we can all heal ourselves, and we've been doing and practicing hands on healing instincitively always, but I'm not sure that we can get better results always if we go it alone. Often people are afraid of their own healing journey, and thus the sensation of neutral and caring touch will help facilitate this journey.
the practice of Reiki is very much a martial art, as opposed to just a healing modality, in that the individual is working to cultivate internal stillness...so from this, the deeper the practice then, hopefully, the more this route to stillness is cultivated and, from there, then the individual has a more neutral understanding of the energy within all things. This, then, reflects on the session for the client.
@RootsofLife I see, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining further. As part of my QiGong training, we are working to awaken the "energy body" and become more sensitive to internal sensations. Just FYI: I would not consider Reiki or Qigong a martial art, which is generally defined as a practice of self-defense or competition sport fighting.
❤❤
Thank you!
❤
Thanks so much!
Thank you❤️🔥
Thank you for watching, I appreciate it!
I was reiki attuned about 18 years ago and it blew my mind. In hindsight it was probably a delusion, however I thought I would circle round to videos like this to see if there was something in it. Unfortunately I have to disagree that these arguments would convince a sceptic. One question you could maybe answer to convince sceptics is why doesn't it work better than a placebo?
Thank you for the comment, and I'm grateful you watched the video. So to your question, there are several published papers out there that show Reiki to be better than a placebo, for instance:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5871310/#:~:text=It%20was%20found%20that%20Reiki,between%20groups%20for%20mental%20relaxation.
However, the ardent skeptic will note that these data points are likely too subjective to be viable. That could be a fair point, but a fully scientific lens will always have difficulty explaining the subjective or the experiential practice. This is why I was leaving it out of this video and rather focusing on the aspects of our life where we perform Reiki instinctively. The fact that we all do this, and always have, and always will... is far more convincing, in many ways than data that can be skewed or not reach stat sig levels to be viable.
Reiki is a beautiful practice that demands us to turn inward and seek stillness within. If we can reach this, we heal as a by-product - much like when we sleep.
Enjoy your journey, and perhaps a more esoteric or traditional practice of Reiki would resonate more with you if your initial training were more "Western"?
You can never convince a skeptic. This is because they are "in fear" of it or due to some religious programming will not accept it at all.
I always say those who don't want to believe in it are the ones who are actually very good at healing but need to heal themselves. No judgement. 💙🙏🩵
I had a reiki treatment she said on my throat chakra she was seeing a big purple flower what does that mean?
Hello and thank you for the comment. She may have seen the mandala for the throat chakra, or a number of other things. I would wonder how it felt to you and did you feel anything in the throat?
So intangible it's like it's not real.
Glad you checked out the video!
You cannot see or smell or hear oxygen.. that doesnt mean it isnt real..
If oxygen stopped excisting for 24hours on this planet... imagine how the world will look like.
I might believe that touching yourself at the point of injury might help focus some of your natural healing power. However, the pain is going to do a great job of that anyway. What kills me about reiki is that practitioners seem to believe that by waving their hands around a persons body they're actually doing anything of value. Sure, the body creates its own field of energy but if anyone thinks they can manipulate that or some so called "universal energy" using their hands, wands or rocks they're sadly mistaken. It just blows me away that people who otherwise seem intelligent fall for this mumbo jumbo. I guess it means that just because you're smart doesn't mean you're not gullible. Reiki is nothing more than pseudo science at its finest.
Thank you for your comment, and I appreciate your points. Indeed, the pain will help bring our awareness to the point of trauma, and I think if we can further calm that pain down, then the healing will, perhaps, be accelerated - much as it does while we sleep.
And I fully agree with you on your point in regards to manipulating the energy using hands or other "tools". This is simply the attachment of the mind and the ego, and sadly it is an aspect of the practice of Reiki that, I feel, turns people off...and in many ways for good reason. As Reiki is traditionally practiced, there is no space or need for any of these things that you've mentioned. Reiki is not a "healing" modality, as it is often billed and taught - rather it is a modality that helps us to quiet down the mind and still the body, which allows healing as a by-product. Again, much the same as when we are sleeping. So in order to do this, we need to let go of all of these distractions that busy the mind. We need to turn inward and work on the cultivation of internal stillness. This is an aspect that Western Reiki often doesn't teach or understand, and as such, I believe the perception of Reiki is skewed into the negative. It is a beautiful and simple process more akin to meditation, in many ways. I hope that helps and thank you for the comment!
Thank you for the way you've explained this. I am a reiki practitioner, massage therapist and also provide reflexology sessions. When I talk to people about reiki, it's often difficult to explain without using terms or descriptions that many people aren't familiar or comfortable with. I lean toward referring to it as a relaxation tool, rather than a healing session.
What's the Joule
:)
Still waiting
@@Lac4ever@lukecross1101 Apologies, I thought your initial comment was meant to be more of a joke.
A joule is the SI unit for energy and measures all forms of energy (work, heat).
I would guess what you are getting at is the nature of the heat that one may feel during a Reiki session or similar practice?
This is a peculiar experience with such practices as the practitioner is often able to notice a marked and easily measurable increase in the temperature in the palms. As far as I know, it is not possible to raise the surface temperature of any other area of your body at will as it is on the palms during such practice.
@RootsofLife and if reiki worked you could get a result and should know the joule.
Go to a hospital take two open wounds Use reiki on one and nothing on the other I guarantee they heal at the same time
I had a friend who did all these alernative therapies, I helped her out by being a practice reiki patient for someone she was teaching. I can report with absolute confidence that reiki does nothing at all. Obviously if someone holds warm hands near or on your body, that area might feel a little warmer. But a tiny bit of warmth isn't going to heal anything. Also could you explain to someone with a degree in Physics what sort of 'energy' are you talking about? How would you measure it? What other kinds of energy can it be converted to? You know, the tyoes of energy that actually exist, like kinetic energy, electrical energy, thermal energy. Not bullshit 'woo woo' energy
Nothing in this video is the least bit convincing or even meaningful. It's just the usual bullshit 'energy' word salad. There's a well established method to determine whether a medical intervention works any better thaqn placebo. It's a double blind randomised control trial. A link to a successful trial carried out by an unbiased third party is the only thing which would convince me that reiki is anything other than a psychologically manipulative bit of placebo theatre used to con money out of the extremely gullible.
Thank you for the comment, and I'm happy to discuss this further. Regarding the energy question, I'm referring to the energy of the universe, which is the energy found in all things. The same energy from the Big Bang. One may feel this in a kinetic way via increases in heat, or perhaps in more potential ways via increases in neutral or passive feelings within the mind and body. Measurement of this would be difficult because it is too subjective, however heat on the hands and the ability to increase or decrease this heat at will is quite measurable.
The fundamental nature of practices like Reiki is to bring someone closer to a parasympathetic state of existence or rest and restore state. So, from here, we can heal with greater efficiency. This state, unfortunately, is not a measurable state from a statistical perspective, and I wish it could be as there could then be properly powered and relevant double-blind studies that could be performed to prove or disprove the validity of Reiki.
If we are always looking with a rational lens, then we will also miss much of the story because here, there is no story - there is no form or function to the practice. We are trying to calm down the mind and body so that we can let go of our suffering, anger, resentment, trauma, and so on. If we can do this in a waking state, we can cultivate a state of being that will allow the body to do what it does naturally: heal. Much like we do each night when we sleep - the body rests and restores.
Reiki is a practice of internal stillness and the cultivation of internal peace. The focus of traditional Reiki is something called anshin ritsumei, and so, to make this more rational or logical, it would be akin to the formless nature of energy at Planck time, where all forces are unified as one. The GUT, in its present state, remains unsolved because of gravity, which is a function of mass. I'm saying all of this because, and this is from a more Buddhist or spiritual perspective now, from this form (mass, our being, etc.) arises all of our suffering - as all suffering comes from attachment and attachment (in a roundabout way) could be simplified to be understood as a natural and inevitable function of mass. So, what is Reiki? It is a practice that helps us soften the form and find peace in a greater sensation, not of the self, but of the universe's energy.
I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with Reiki. It's unfortunate that Reiki is so often viewed as abstract metaphysical jargon and muddled up with so many other quasi-spiritual practices and thinking. Reiki is none of this-it is simply closing your eyes, quieting down your mind and body, placing your hands on yourself if desired, and allowing the noise and dust to settle. Once everything settles, there is a universe to discover.
One studies Reiki, namely Usui Reiki Ryoho, to learn how to facilitate the quieting of the mind and the body. In traditional Reiki, the focus is not on healing...it is not on channeling angels or anything else, but rather it is on stillness. It is my hope and desire that an increasing number of people will see Reiki as such a practice, as opposed to often how it is taught and expressed. If this happens, then perhaps more will be able to cultivate a similar stillness within - and that would be beautiful indeed.
I hope this helps.
you are pronouncing it rake e, whereas, most people, pronounce it as, rye key
Thank you for the thoughts, I appreciate it!
Where are you ? I'm sensing ancient .
Ancient indeed!
The following is a joke that you reminded me of, but it is also 100% serious. This is Reiki: ruclips.net/video/k0cOekEmJv8/видео.html It might help to use a little bit of comedy and pop culture references when talking with the most severe of skeptics. Thank you for this video.
Ahh classic the ol hurt knee gag! Thanks for sharing!
This is interesting, but from one who coaches public speakers, please don’t say “right?” when you are explaining or teaching. It’s a bad habit of speech, and distracts from your presentation. Makes you sound immature, and less than confident - constantly asking for confirmation.
Watch your video again and count how many times you say the word “right.” You’ll hear what you’re doing.
Thanks for the information.
Thank you for the comment. This is actually something I noticed in my videos as well and have worked to correct. I believe these efforts would be visible in my more recent videos, where I hope this has been rectified, and the trajectory to working out this speech pattern should be visible across the channel. I appreciate the comment!
Reiki is not real, it has no real proven effect to heal or treat anything, apart from anxiety, low level of pain or similar conditions due to placebo. The only ”energy” that moves in the body are electrical impulses in the nerves and they most definitely do not transfer to another person. Funnily enough, two of the reiki ways described in the video were just psychological effects of pain and physical contact with another person.
However, as it does not do any dangerous treatments or adjusments and hopefully sends serious health cases to care professionals, I’m personally fine with people doing reiki.
Edit. To add, yes people feel things like energy, warmth, magnetism, etc. and that is because our brains are very adept at imagining things as well as manipulating how pain and other things are interpreted concurrent with emotions and other sensations.
I think this skepticism is valid and I feel that much of it is a result of Reiki not being realized as something akin to a meditation practice. If we see Reiki as such a practice, to which there is ample and irrefutable evidence towards associated health benefits, then - I think - the conversation may be a bit less mystical and more grounded in results and evidence.
As to the energy that one may feel in the practice - the energy in a system (the universe) is fixed, it cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change forms. We are simply a form of this energy and, by engaging in a practice that helps quiet down the rational and busy mind, we may become more sensitive to this energy within all things.
It's simply sitting and working towards increased stillness - everything along that path is a beneficial byproduct.
@@RootsofLife isn't the mysterious "reiki" energy indispensable part of the concept? If we take down this element, we will simply be talking about meditation/relaxation tools. Yet the reiki community claims there is more to the practice than what modern science can explain about natural healing abilities of the body. As long as the theoretical basis of the practice is built upon an unexplained phenomenon, skeptics will not take it seriously. Evidence of the soothing effect of reiki sessions does not address the theoretical inconsistency. Explanation can be found within the realm of evidence-based science with equal success.
Or can we flip it this way: why do reiki masters cling to the supernatural interpretation of reiki if they could qualify as meditation/mental health practitioners and gain more credibility? More credibility would lead to more patients, thus more people will receive help. Isn't helping people the ultimate goal? I might be wrong, but it seems to me that such a re-conceptualization and rebranding would remove a part of the problem.
