Here's a short video of main line meets in action. These are the only two I have in the library. If y'all want to see more of these, I'll try to go get some.
You are the first person that describes in easy to understand layman terms, about railroading. Your narration is clear and precise. Its easy to follow along as you describe Trains, Signals, Tracks and Switches. And your camera video is very clear. Its almost like we are on site with you. My kids and I look forward to your videos, Thank You
I have to say Distant Signal you are a natural when it comes to being the narrator for your own videos, excellent videos and excellent video quality, sharp and clear HD videos, keep up the great work!!!! I wish I could narrate like you do!! I'm learning quite a bit by watching your videos on these trains, very interesting!!!!!
The nice bit about meets on single-track lines is that you know for sure that one train won't pass behind the other one, as will happen in double-track country. Once in a while I'll catch one here, and they're always interesting to see
I liked the short juice trains that would pass through here. Sometimes you could catch them with one engine and the crews would slam it into notch 8 just to show off.
East American Trains I know what you’re talking about I’ve seen several juice trains come through Jacksonville, the crews would slam their Es44ac locos into notch 8 and blow their horns to show off. NS has done this same practice also I had caught a really short grain train it was about 14 cars maybe. The engineer see me there filming he kicked his SD70Ace’s into notch 8 and blowed the horn, and a few seconds later he was gone.
I grew up near train tracks and always had a fascination with them. It never grew into a fully-fledged fandom, but dang if you aren't answering so many questions I've been carrying around on the topic. Thank you sir!
Hello Mr. Harmon , I have just recently came across your videos and have to say that I Really have enjoyed everyone that I have had the Pleasure to watch, which has been many..I grew up in Bostic N.C. just about 1 1/2 miles from the Train yard which was a Clinchfield and Seaboard Coast Line Yard, L&N, N&W, also along with B&O and C&O, was able to spend lots of time in the yard dure to my Uncle (Conductor)who worked for the Clinchfield RR and 2 neighbors and also my Great Uncle (Shop Foreman) worked for the Clinchfield. I Was able to ride on the local switcher once in a while and was able to ride in a caboose almost from Bostic N.C. to Irwin Tn. back in the 60's. Great times, walked many a rails and had many a coin mashed on the rails as a kid.I love you videos and have always been a Fan of Seaboard and Clinchfield , L&N and all their heritage. Gash I miss those days at the Bostic Yard setting in the yard house. I am going to hopefully get to see all your videos that i can find and just had to let you know at my young age of 62 i plan on getting this accomplished with my free time for sure...Have a Great Day and ...........................Happy Trails

I love that there's harmony with Danny Harmon's videos he knows how to make them work and come together in the best possible way Danny if I ever come to Florida again someday I hope to meet you man you're about as professional as they come when it comes to rail fans
Nice video! Can definitely agree it’s always nice to get a meet at a siding. Guarantees more than 1 train. If I get lucky they’ll run someone in for 2-3 in the opposite direction. PSR has made it difficult with train well exceeding the siding limits though.
I've been binge watching all of your videos over the past few weeks (sometimes staying up all night) and I've got to tell you that you've inspired me to stop being an armchair railfan and get out there to see 'em live. I just purchased a handheld scanner and I want to get out there to hear some road talk. I live in Nashville so it seems that Radnor Yard will be my first stop. Thanks for your great videos and keep up the good work out there on the high iron! 🚂
Great information...great video . Occasionally I will get stopped in Ft.Pierce at the RR crossing when they are bringing the Tropicana juice cars on to the mainline from the juice plant. Keep up the good work.👍👍👍👍
Awesome video Danny. And I've never really thought about that medium approach signal, but yes you do get to see two trains at the same location. There's a spot in between Manchester and Lagrange, Ga where trains come in and out of Atlanta,Ga and Birmingham,Ala where they have to go through Lagrange to get to Manchester, and the signal mast is maybe 200 yards from that crossing, and every time there's a medium approach, there's always another train on the siding.
Good stuff! The precision switching theory has stopped the five hundred million dollar UP construction of Brazos Yard in Mumford, Texas, which is my old stomping grounds. The folks in charge said they will use the money for longer sidings for longer trains, so who knows what will happen to the proposed gravity yard. It was a long bitter battle in the Brazos Valley between land owners and UP, so it's bittersweet that even though grading, leveling, etc. has been done, now it's at a standstill. So much for the 250 permanent jobs projected once the gravity yard was completed.
Great video, you just get better every time! The camera work here was great. As for the train with the duo of SD70MAC's, that's a scene not so common anymore on CSX, so good catch Danny!
Really enjoyed the video. American signalling seems a bit complicated to an outsider. (I'm an apprentice signal technician from Perth, Western Australia), so it's good to have the background notes as to what the signals are actually telling the driver.
@@distantsignal that is correct. Trains just pass each other here on the SFRC & FEC Corridor. North of West Palm Beach it's back to single track (FEC) but that will change in months to come as BrightLine will start their construction.
I used to catch the juice train southbound (rr east) down the Capitol Sub through MD, when the cars were orange, there were lots of 'em, and the units were in notch 8.
If your wondering Danny the answer is YES. We do want to more of these meets in your archive's, even if you have some from the 90'S go right ahead & upload them when you get the chance. On a side note, A 7-CAR juice train? I've go to admit things aren't what they use to back in the days when this train & it's 1997 inaugurated sister K-652 use to be 60-70 cars long of ORANGE CARS.
I live about a mile from the UP Lufkin Sub out of Shreveport, La by the passing siding in Keithville, La and it's the same scenario there every-time I take the trash to the compactor near there. Always a northbound train there in the siding waiting for a southbound to pass. At home I can hear traffic on that line on my work radio.
Another Excellent Viedo Danny And Your Drone Is The Bomb Thank You Brother For All Your Time. I’m Going To Be In St Pete In Nov Thanksgiving would Love To Get Together My Brother And I..
Oh, Florida is great. Totally year-round railfanning, but we don't get anywhere near the traffic you guys in Ohio have. Everything that comes down here runs to a dead-end.
That's right. Shorter, lighter train usually takes the siding. Not always but generally so. Plus the juice train had two big GEVO's pulling. With seven cars that's virtually rocket power!
Just wanted to point out that recording/filming power# (numbers) of main trains at least, would be great. There are a lot of people who would wanted to know engine numbers so could keep track of what is going on with motive power & which is it you filmed! All the rest is like no other You Tube rail fan! Congratulations and best wishes from Goran 🖖 Europe!
Danny, do you remember anything about the rock conveyor belt that was just west of the Tallahassee Amtrak Station? It’s completely gone now, I thought you’d have some info on it. I grew up around that area and remember they’d have a few jumbo open hoppers on that stretch of track that the conveyer was on
I knew there was some kind of aggregate machinery down there, but I never saw it. It's like where "College Town" is now. The whole GF&A Yard was on that property.
Got one of those passing sidings right behind my house in the old L&N tracks across the gulf coast. Guess I need to get a drone because there are too many trees behind me to film from the ground
@@distantsignal I'm in Pass Christian, MS. I work on the coast and in DC, which is why if you watch my railfanning videos they seem a tad geographically disconnected.
I live near the CSX tracks in Lake Worth, FL. I wonder why I have never seen a double stack train on these tracks. Do they only go as far south as Tampa? On FEC just a few blocks away there are many double-stack trains heading down to Miami.
Ken, CSX doesn't run intermodal or piggyback trains to Miami. They send all that traffic down the FEC. I think that may change in the next couple of years though.
Thanks again, Danny. While watching the last scenes in Wildwood, I wondered if you ask (or need to ask) permission to fly your drone over their property. Have you ever been questioned when flying over the active rail lines?
No, I haven't. Rail employees have been curious and asked me how it worked and such, but no confrontations. I try to be respectful of privacy and, whenever practical, let them know what I'm planning before I fly. Courtesy goes a long way in this world.

Danny , could you tell me why most railroads place a "general freight" car right behind the engine lashup in most tank train movements . Is this a safety issue ??
Yes, if the tank cars are loaded with any Haz-Mat, they put buffer cars between them and the engines. Buffers are usually hoppers partially filled with sand.

Yay. These are probably the best railfan videos here on RUclips.
Agreed! Helps that he works in television industry.......television...that monitor with the two long antener things on top....
It was surely serendipitous that the crews had their trains moving at just the right speed to facilitate this passing manoeuvre.
I liked the short juice trains that would pass through here. Sometimes you could catch them with one engine and the crews would slam it into notch 8 just to show off.

What's up with the piece of heavy welded-link chain frequently seen hanging under the locomotive frame alongside one of the trucks?
Great question... I really don't know but will find out.
I believe that it has to do with the link to the hand brake of the locomotive.
@@zfactortedzabel9267 It seems to have way too much slack for that, besides being attached directly to the frame.
