The Celtics played their whole starting unit because they didn’t get any run in games 2 or 3 of the preseason cause some brilliant person had the amazing idea of scheduling 3 games in 4 nights for the C’s during the preseason. So this was the starters game to get some run
I could see 17-22 minutes per game for him this year if he keeps shooting at this level and continues to improve his playmaking. Confidence is at an all-time high for him right now
Honestly how do you defend J.T. J.B. and Porzingas when they pick and pop. It's pick your poison really. Their starting 5 is unreal legit 4 maybe 5 all stars!
@@GD1_3 Blake did not re-sign, he’s been contemplating retirement it sounds like a longshot they’d bring him back. Stevens does have a decent-sized TPE to acquire a rotational big with though
Haven’t loved what I’ve seen from Kornet in that third center role. I don’t think Gabriel will make the team (which is a bummer because it’s always fun to root for local guys) and Queta is fun but still relatively unpolished. Would definitely like to see Stevens add another rotational big to the equation
Kornet played better last night but I just don’t see him coming behind the bigs we have you need someone to keep the intensity and ware the other teams out. I like him for the C’s but only for scrap minutes
I thought the defensive intensity was solid in the first half, they were definitely more engaged on both sides of the ball. Started settling in the third, which as you said is understandable because it’s preseason. I still think it’s worth acknowledging their recent history with slow 3rd quarter starts though
What's crazy is that Jaylen Brown could be the #4 option on some nights. I think Brown is a better overall scorer than Jrue, but I think Jrue's efficiency and some mismatches might get him more looks. Alternatively, Jrue is your #4 option on offense (if we assume Tatum #1 and Porzingis #2, which may not hold true since JB could pass Porzingis in raw output). Imagine that, you have three guys who are legitimate #2 options on a lot of teams who are fighting over #4.
Yessir, the offensive depth is scary. I think Brown's projected shot volume will likely keep him firmly in that #2 role, but there will absolutely be nights when Porzingis and/or Jrue outproduce him. Same goes for Derrick White on occasion
Porzingis is hard to stop. You can post him up or he can faceup at the elbow. KP can pick & pop for a middy or 3 off the P&R setting a screen. Athletic & can score in transition. Can roll to the rim & catch lobs. Can ISO too & do things off the dribble. KP is underrated and I won’t be surprised if he’s the second option over Jaylen Brown
Tatum shot 35% from 3. The issue isnt the percentage. The issue is the volume. Hes shooting way too many. He took over 9 a game last year. For his career he is a 38% 3pt shooter tho
I agree that volume has certainly played a part in the downtick in his percentage, but he also shot 38.6% on 7.6 attempts per game in 2020-21, so he’s proven he can shoot efficiently at a higher volume. Something has happened the last two years that has contributed to a sharp decline in his long ball, whether it’s shot selection, tweaking the form, or something else. I agree that I’d like to see him take fewer threes, but he still has to shoot them at a more efficient clip
@JeffTalksHoops but thats my point when i say its the volume. 9 is too many. Hes not lilard or curry. He should be shooting 5-7 threes a game. Unless hes hes having a gake where hes hot. I just think when he shooting almost 8-10 threes a game its letting the defense off the hook.
@@JeffTalksHoops I think a lot of it stems from Mazzula wanting to shoot as many 3's as possible and him being our number 1 so he's taking more questionable 3's in volume. We've essentially traded Smart for Jrue and Rob for Porzingis who are both much more capable scorers and 3 point shooters so hopefully there are less times with him just holding the ball and chucking a 3 with better options to pass to/create open looks for him
i see a lot of celtics fan hype over this, problem is KP cant stay on the floor. hes played 60 games once since his 2nd season. i hope he stays healthy because im a fan but history proves otherwise. plus this is preseason against the bench of NYK. whoever made this schedule did a terrible job.
Bench ain’t poor they actually have a decent bench that’s all they need. Maybe they trade for a big man or get him of waivers in the middle of the season. They just need a backup but that’s all
I feel Jrue Holiday or Al Horford will come off the bench at times. VS small lineups, the Cs starting lineup will be: PG Jrue SG White SF Brown PF Tatum C KP VS big lineups, the starting lineup will be: PG White SG Brown SF Tatum PF KP C Horford Even though Jrue is better than Derrick White, I feel Mazzulla will use Jrue coming off the bench to bring more scoring & playmaking in the second unit which he can provide more than Derrick White
I could see it! I’m sure Mazzulla will experiment with his lineups early on to find the right combination to go big and small. In reality, it doesn’t matter who starts games, it’s who finishes them
It’s really a big 6 haha, but there’s definitely a drop-off in star power after Porzingis/Holiday to White/Al. Best top 6 in the league by a wide margin though
@JeffTalksHoops i disagree, Derek white is extremely underrated. Do you remember last season when the whole team was out and he carried them to victory?
@@Barry-Strange You’re misinterpreting me, that’s exactly my point. I absolutely know just how great White is, by “star-power” I just mean how the Celtics are viewed across the league, which is as a consensus big 4. White IS incredibly underrated, we’re on the same page
Porzingis looks like a great fit in Boston
Agreed. Already so comfortable playing alongside the Jays

2:23 he got elbowed in the face, called for the and one, then the ball hit him in the head 😭 I’m going to the locker room after that

Insanely talented top 6. Sky is the limit, especially if they can regain some of the defensive form they found under Ime two years ago

We still have one more preaeaaon game my guess is starters might not play at all again especially sincd they played so much of this game
They may need to keep all 3queta and Gabriel and kornet on the roster with Al being 50 yrs old
Porzingis is such a polished offensive player at 7'3"...If he stays healthy the leagues in trouble.
I think they let the foot of the gas in the 3rd because the game is not important in pre season but they were really locked on defense the first half

Much appreciated!
Did the Knicks trade away their team? Or are we reacting to a starting unit vs bench players?

Should be the first option over Tatum , Especially when he's not afraid of contact an go to the rim to draw fouls , he's not soft.
