Honestly, Furnace seems like a good enough design for an Eggman attempt at a more controllable Metal Sonic that is both physically bigger and stronger but much less intelligent, and more specialized for a “leave nothing left of the target area” usage. Would probably only be one bossfight in a game that actually takes Eggman seriously.
The boss fight would probably be the same you have against metal sonic in sonic cd but instead of tryng to race with him you would have to escape from him, or dodge him while he changes sides trying to hit you, if he touches you the game is over.
I think it’s kinda funny how Furnace and Starved come back for the last part of their sections like: “Sorry, I was going to the store to grab the milk.”
