As foreigners, me and my wife live here almost ten years. We graduated from Laurentian, got married, build our small family here. I went to Toronto to work over a year but finally back here started my own business, we really love this beautiful and peaceful town
My wife's grandpa passed away at 99 a couple of years back. 79 of those years he spent in Sudbury after Mr. Silverman poached him from the Selkirk, not much left of that town other than the family's homestead, county store to work for him, which he did for over 50 years. Started out selling kitchen appliances and retired from the store credit department. When his wife died a decade before him we offered for him to come and live with us in southwestern Ontario, but he preferred to get himself set up in an old folks community where he could still participate in his lodge, the oldest and longest standing member, and catch a bus downtown to meet up with old friends and co-workers after turning in his driving license. His decision saw us visit Sudbury many, many times. Beautiful community full of wonderful people.
Actually I cant get the vimeo video's to play, my dsl is way to slow , thank you for putting it on youtube I usually dont have a problem with youtube videos
Great Video! I left Sudbury to move to the GTA for job opportunities, and couldn't be happier. However, this video makes me remember where I came from, thanks!
This is a great video. I grew up there and spent a good 20 plus years but moved down to the GTA 13 years ago. I miss it up there. Lasalle Secondary class of 96.
Thanks for this, I was born and raised in Sudbury, left in 1956, so much has changed. Are the six large silo like structures in the Flour Mill section?
nice video but you missed the mark... Sudbury may have evolved after the arrival of the Canadian Pacific in the 1880's but the real story starts much earlier in the 1820's when they built a trading post at Whitefish Lake and then in the 1850's when they granted reserve land to the local tribe but soon after sent survey teams to build a baseline that reached the post some 30 years before the CP group came by.... In the fifties a leading surveyor hired by the government ( British Canada ) located a rich mineral source. The info was put in secret vaults until the area was linked to commercial centers via railroads... In the fifties Archibald Barclay was a powerful Hudson's Bay agent and Simon Ross was a Chief Factor ( near Saguenay river and Tadoussac ) for the HBC and sent his son to operate the post at Naughton ( not sure which year ). Art Ross, the hockey legend, was born in Walden in 1885 and was a son of Thomas Barnston Ross ( Simon Lake ) .... . Murray mine was the Flanagan claim and was relatively a poor site.... Creighton was the Salter claim and was not mined until much later ... why ??? It remains a rich mine site to this day... nice try ... awful version of the story imo
Hi I didn’t know where else to type this, but I was wondering if I could use some of your video footage for non-commercial purposes because it’s perfect shots for what I need in my project
Sudburian born and raised, have been gone 20 years, left because there were no real jobs. I also fly a quad for work in different areas of Ontario. I noticed that your video contains Onaping Falls and French River areas. Maybe a little caption on the screen of the area as you are flying it would help those who don't know the area in case they want to discover and find out that what they wanted to see is not actually in the city itself but the surrounding area. You can also change the name of the video which would be easier to something like Sudbury (my City) and Surrounding Areas. But I think people would still be more interested in the captions like Paris St Bridge with Flags from ........ or Sudbury Arena located in section considered Old Sudbury. Sudbury will always be considered my home town, I've always missed it.
Having live in Sudbury from l942-1953 and again from 1969-2014, I was able to the areas you are referring to but you're right about other people not knowing the areas on the video. Captions would be helpful. Loved it though.
Very cool! Lived here for 15 years but never saw it from that perspective. Thanks for posting! Jut wondering ... what kind of drone/camera combination did you use to make such a professional-looking vid?
danz409 Transport Canada is constantly reviewing the rules around flying a drone. Im not sure what the US requires but the noose keeps getting tighter here! Cheers
depends on the type of flying your doing as well. If you are not certified I would suggest it otherwise you will have to get a SFOC for every flight and you may now be approved for a long period of time. Research, Research cause the laws are constantly changing these days.
If you don't have something nice to say , you should keep your mouth shut wether you lived there or not. I lived there from Birth to 19 years and still love Greater Sudbury.
really nice vid ( better than most ) but like most of these vids this is just an attempt at showing the brighter side of a story and fails miserably at coming even close to telling the real story of this mining town in the north of Ontario.... one spot to start that story might be at the old ( abandoned ) Agnew residence in Copper Cliff or another might be at the Bell mansion ( mind the rumored ghost ) and the neighboring pink castle built for/by the Parker who were running Creighton assets while the Bradley of Berkeley Mining schools ( California ) were in the area about when those flour mill silos were coming of age ... did not know those were hollow.. .live and learn....
Great shots....it's too bad they were mostly taken in the fall and winter months. Makes Sudbury look like a depressing place to live....which it is unfortunately.
I’ve lived here most of my life and it’s not the wonderful place you make it out to be . Just look at satellite pictures of the area and it’s horrible what INCO and VALE have done to the environment. Let’s not forget we have a huge fentanyl problem and human trafficking so let’s be honest ok !
If it wasn't for mining this town would have never prosper the way it is now.. yes the environment took a toll. But look around you the whole planet environments taking a toll it's avoidable.

Technically Onaping Falls falls within the newer City of Greater Sudbury boundary.
To bad it’s a shit hole full of crime n drugs. I left there in 1996 and was the best choice I have ever made in my life

Thw water tower and flour mill need to be repainted.
Hello Shannon, can you contact me right away 30 nov. 2022....seeking permission to use a 30 seconds of your video. Thank you. Michel
Hi Michel, what's the plan with the footage?
Sudbury was founded by Joseph and Beatrice Boulay.
