Hello! How are you doing today? I prefer automatic to a stick shift ( our slang term for manual) I think just because when I was in high school drivers training ( this was in the mid 1990s we got training in high school for free back then). We were all taught on an automatic, to drive a luxury we had to learn to drive stick. I didn’t learn it until after I got married in ‘99. Now a days you just don’t see them as much. I think because a lot of people can only afford used cars that the automatics just get passed around more. I don’t think I my entire have owned anything else.

Hello Mauro the narrator listed the fact that manual transmissions get better fuel economy and while this has historically been the case modern automatic cars are actually more efficient with fuel now. I live in the tailing ends of the Appalachian Mountain range and have to drive up and down steep and hilly roads, often stopping at traffic lights or crosswalks which can be a nightmare to do in a manual transmission. Also modern DCT automatics are actually significantly faster at changing gears than any human would be capable of. As a car enthusiast, I do still enjoy manuals for their skill and how fun they are to drive and most people who drive manuals in the US these days do so because they like driving sports cars for fun but most have a more practical vehicle they drive for daily activities and that is usually an automatic. I think with modern automatics Europe will slowly shift towards automatic transmissions. They may never be as popular as in the US but they probably will become more popular

Thank you for sharing your story Jason.
I had no idea it was like that for new cars!
