The building in the center of the Shah Goli lake dates only to the 1960s, when the greedy mayor of Tabriz had the old Safavid palace of king Ismail I, knocked down to build this kitschy new building and get kickback money from its construciton. The lake itself is Sassanian, and belongs to the Anahita Temple (also seen in Kirmanshah/Taq Bustan, Takab, Firuzabad and Lahijan, among others)
Thank you for sharing that historical background🙏. It's unfortunate to hear about the loss of the original Safavid palace. The history of Shah Goli lake, dating back to the Sassanian era, is truly fascinating. The connection to the Anahita Temple adds another layer of historical significance to the site. Appreciate your insights!
