As an ex-coach in semi-pro play, I can provide a little bit of insight into the Corki being ~0% ban 100% pick rate. There's 2 cases where this can happen: Case 1 is when players/coaches think the champ is consistently good but not oppressive. I think part of it is a lack of insight, but part of it can be because the champ has low agency, and won't be swinging a game on their own, so you're okay with the enemy having it because it gives you 1 less role to worry about from a playmaking perspective, and lets you focus your bans on playmakers (because those are the players/champs that tend to decide games, and that strategies are based around). In that case, it would be picked a lot because of its consistency and because your strategy relies around another player on your team being the playmaker. Also, if it's a consistent champ, it means that the weaker player would prefer to pick it every time, and a good ban strategy wants to target the strongest picks/players with the bans, not the weakest ones, so it would slip through the bans most of the time. Case 2 is if ban slots are just really tight, and it just happens to be the next best champ that isn't being banned, so it's just picked every game instead. This doesn't seem to be the case to me just looking at overall stats (I don't watch pro play anymore), but it's possible that it's happening on a team-by-team case.
9:35 I think a possible reason Stormsurge has better performance according to your data might be the player perception you mentioned. Players tend to build Stormsurge when they’re already ahead because it’s a “funny haha watch the enemy adc go boom” item while if they’re not winning they would rather build Zhonyas or Voidstaff. Just a theory though
I think it's A. because people generally don't appreciate how powerful movementspeed can be, and B. the players that understand when movementspeed is better than raw damage are generally better than average so they skew the winrate up. It may very well be that Stormsurge isn't weak, just niche.
@@emilemil1as an AP move speed item it also conflicts with cosmic drive which the much more obvious move speed repeatability item so there's also that
With the tooltip changes, you should go back and add the missing stat trackers for the items that lost it (and never got it back) from last season. For example: Frozen Heart and Randuins BOTH have the Rock Solid passive, yet only one has the stat tracker implimented... *EDIT* *Randuins no longer has the passive, but other items are still missing trackers*
@@flyingredtiger4943 hmm wow. Didnt know that since it still has rock solid component. But there still are other items that never got it back (Redemption missing dmg delt, axiom arc refund timer, etc)
This was the worst thing about the rework in my opinion. It has been hard for me to evaluate whether I made a good choice of item when I can't see the stats on my item. For example, did I get usage out of the shadow flame crit? Did I make use of the Abyssal Mask I bought enough to have gotten it instead of Spirit Visage?
I did not know Phreak has his own channel! Subbed immediately! I have been playing League since before Season 1. Loved your champion spotlight contents!
Rumble is a good example of what happens when a champ tries to excel at everything. He was previously a strong early-game champ and good vs squishies and would build only ap, but then he also became strong late and good vs tanks and able to build tanky when needed. People didn't use to mind this champ because he was quite low pick rate even when strong. He was bound to need nerfs once people caught on, but this is only going to hurt his otp player-base, nobody else has an attachment to this champion and cares. He should be a niche champ for us Rumble mains. He will never get mainstream appeal because he's simply not cool-looking. Like he's a tiny weird rodent-looking creature in a shaky mech, he's not a cool samurai like Yasuo dashing everywhere. He will not be enjoyable anymore because he will have some matchups where he does well and other matchups that feel terrible since he's not able to stat check everyone with superior early game anymore. So what happens is you because you're low mobility and top is a long lane you'll get engaged on and ran down. His early game being strong was once balanced by a weakness to tankiness, which put him on a clock to snowball. You gave him more heat so he could do more rotations of spells, in reality people just want to overheat asap, but this 150 heat idea could be used in early game. Here's my suggestion: Make him able to realistically kite in the early game. It's a high skill-expression playstyle because you're required to hit E to not get punished and need good spacing so they don't get on top of you and chunk you, and good positioning so the wave doesn't block your E. You'll need to increase MS on W a lot. You could make him squishier so he gets punished for failing to disengage. You could nerf his Q dmg, but make it longer range to use it for CSing as you'll need to keep a charge of E for safety. You could give him another charge of E so he's able to cs with that instead. So you make him weak early, but have good scaling and he's not gonna want to overheat so much early game but balance his heat. If this fails, you can revert him to weak late, but strong early, but don't abandon us Rumble mains please.
Phreak I think the Samira buffs are the wrong way to go abt it, because obv after 9 she's the same champ. Unfortunately she's been indirectly nerfed bc of adc items getting nerfed too. I also think that mains know she doesnt want to trade early. I think you shouldve reverted the 5% ult nerf or maybe buffed Q all ranks (maybe like 10%-5%) or maybe some other part of her kit too. I just think that Samira knows her early game isnt what it used to be and this wont change that.
day 1 just had a problem with ready check. I got secondary role in lobby, someone else dodged and queue instantly popped again with 0 seconds to back out so i declined ready check because i don't want to play off role and i had already showed my champ. The same exact thing happened as soon as i went into queue again 5 minutes later - got secondary role, showed champ, someone else dodged, and then instantly ready check goes off so i declined and now im locked out of queue for 15 minutes
1:06:30 Pretty sure MF won't be top 5 ADCs but rather bottom 5 ADCs. Before the +3 Base AD buff she received a few patches ago, she was performing really badly even at lower elos. This -2 Base AD is essentially a 66% nerf revert to the previous buff; but add in BT nerfs and the other systematic ADCs nerfs and she will probably be in a worse state than before the +3 Base AD buff. I would like to have seen a different nerf. Like for example reduce the lifesteal effectiveness on her passive at certain lvl thresholds. That way it would nerf BT rush builds without impacting other builds like lethality or Essence Reaver/Collector rush builds.
she has the second lowest base AD out of the marksmen role (next to senna). This patch basically nukes her lol. She can't even really trade more than one auto because when her passive wears off the same target, her early game auto's are hitting for 50's while a doran's blade kalista is sitting at 70 AD.
Can we have systemic nerfs to mage botlane? It's quite oppressive after the ADC systems nerfs. Support lane power is also overturned now because of ADCs being brought down.
Great Video, though at 55:57 you seem to misremember Smolder's patch history quite a bit, in fact in the 5-6 months period you mention he has been buffed 4 separate times: 14.7 (April), 14.10 (May), 14.11 (May) and 14.14 (July)
Yeah, I was really confused by this too. Smolder was strong upon release then gutted from ADC item changes and got some big changes. Even if he only buys one crit item, it was still a buff. The only thing I am concerned about is his solo queue win rate will be less than 48% win rate again and his pick rate will fall off again.
Hey Phreak! I was really hoping to hear you talk about the rationale behind nerfing Smolder’s AP ratio. I really like playing full AP Smolder as an off build with my friends, and I was sad to see this change. It doesn’t feel like AP Smolder is too strong, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on this change. Thanks so much!
its likely just to gut the viability of going mixed shojin AD into liandries builds and making liandries less effective on smolder as its cost effectiveness that pairs w smolders kit is insane.
Ive been really liking these videos to get some context on patches and the vision for the champs/changes. Also gives insight into how to improve and adjust to the patches
People think Stormsurge is bad because players criminally underrate movement speed. As a Stormsurge abuser, I'm sad the move speed is going down, and think it's a nerf for AP Galio. Reminder that people thought Cloud Drake (before souls) was the worst Drake for years when it was factually the best, because everyone thought out of combat move speed was bad.
41:20 Wasn't the main reason for Azir shooting up like that because every other adc midlaner got nerfed hard at the same time? If he was like the #10 best mid laner and suddenly #1-#5 got nerfed while he got a slight buffed, it would make sense for him to shoot up in priority despite the buffs themselves not making that much of a difference.
It feels like a lot of the issues around ADC is more about them being played mid lane or the lane swap (that you think is now gone) than as a Bot carry. Can something be done in the future to make the Bot role feel better? I know you are trying to remove some level scaling, which should help, but it just feels like there is a lot of targeting towards playing these champs in other lanes and not enough focus on how that will affect the Bot position.
the bottom position has been in a horrible state for a long time. Hence why the top "marksmen" are all utility focussed. A support has infinite more value roaming and being near mid for objective rotations rather than babysitting the only class in the game that is dependant on their team. And this is also because you no longer need a marksmen for turret destroying etc, you can have a damage source from any role. A two item Mundo has so much more usefulness than any 2 item marksmen.
I love these videos, even though I have not been watching them for a little while. This is only because I have not played league for months. I just wanted to comment this because I hope they never stop. I have them saved and downloaded to listen while I’m trucking, when I’m in the mood for league again. I always come back (since 2009).
Hey, I wanted to ask why is it bad that midlane is now plagued with ADCs? First of all, I know a lot of people complain about this meta in midlane, and they are really vocal because 'muh mages, but I think it is really positive for the game to have this diversity. There aren't a lot of AD champs in midlane, and there should be a lot more actually good competitive AD midlaners, and although we have some not marksmen champions that cover that niche, those are just Yone and Yasuo. I Wll not include Corki here because he was Intended as you said to be an ADC and shift from midlane, so this woud have been one less AD champ for midlane (Although he was AP previously). So our pool of viable competitive AD champs are Yone, Trist and Yasuo, and these are really frustrating champs for a lot people, hence why they usually tend to stay power neutral or below. Trist just gets you perma prio and scales insanely, Yasuo is mostly a counter to ADCs midlane (reason why he's seeing some play now; people tried him vs ADCs, got good at the champ and now he can be played vs mages in some scenarios aswel) and Yone which has a very large lethal range for certain mages. Then why is it bad to widen this pool? These ADCs dont automaticly win lane vs ALL mages, so they DO have counters. Then WHY are they the meta? Simple. Heavy CC supports, paired with AP junglers being the most efficient champions (This includes Ivern, Mao and Seju due to their damage share), paired with Ziggs being the best ADC in the patch, paired with Kennen and Rumble being also near Tier S toplaners. I know you've adressed these champions in this and last patch, well, most of them, but ADCs mid is literally just a byproduct of how the meta shaped thru support abd jungle, so why should ADC runes be hit when the problem is the champions from the other roles? Why should certain champs who werent even top tier ADCs be hit and go even deeper down the pool, while these champions, mind you, in soloQ have ALL the worst winrates for midlane. If these champions are so strong and so frustrating, why do they hold such abysmal winrates? I dont think we should push these strats out of the meta in such an aggresive way, specially since you guys pushed for more AP junglers in the meta (Remember the Rumble Morg jungle MSI, the buffs for Brand and Zyra) because the pool was not good for competitive. You pushed for enchanter nerfs to make Engage supports more viable last year I believe, because the game needed more pick options. SO why is midlane the ¨Mage role¨? Midlane should be the most diverse role in the game in picks imo, since early to midgame prio is really important for the game, being the most important - the mid prio -, so these players should be able to get creative with their picks without reaching into a 45% winrate champion. Look at Galio, a champ which I love so much because he's the only ACTUAL MIDLANER tank. No other champions was designed to be a tank in midlane, and I think we need more champions like Galio in the game, this way draft deepens and gains more value. I want to be able to play Zeri, Lucian, Smolder, Ezreal and also play Syndra, Ryze, Viktor, Cassio into them. AD midlane champs got here due to Fated Ashes in the first place, why not nerf the item, why not nerf engage supports which cause Utility mages and Burst Mages to be so useless? These go unadress while the game loses one of the most interesting and entertaining mid metas its ever had.
If one ever wanted more diversity in league of legends, they would never start with improving it at midlane, which is already the most diverse lane by far. They would start with nuking adcs' hegemony at bot. Idk if you played at the one time that happened before, but the feedback from low iq clowns most affected by the change (adc mains) was overwhelmingly negative. You see, they have special unique skills (of standing back and using autoattack and repositioning between them) that they practiced all this time, so it's not fair that they can't play the single type of champions they are used to! >Then why is it bad to widen this pool? The pool isn't widened. Everything but AD picks was just dead for a while with just some occasional LB or azir added lately. Kind of like earlier it was only AP with an occasional tristana or yone. >These ADCs dont automaticly win lane vs ALL mages, so they DO have counters Not at the level where people, who play the game the best, play. Otherwise these counters would probably show up, right? >Why should certain champs who werent even top tier ADCs be hit and go even deeper down the pool, while these champions, mind you, in soloQ have ALL the worst winrates for midlane Again, because obviously when the game is played to the best of human ability, these champs are too strong. >AD midlane champs got here due to Fated Ashes in the first place, why not nerf the item This is at the very least incredibly hard to demonstrate. For example, if the main culprit is the ashes why did the LCK final that just finished feature only 3/10 picks a fated ashes user (all of them being zyra btw)? Not like the rest were all banned: brand was up there, lillia was up there. Also, every single item user was nerfed after the item was introduced. What do you think happens to them if the item is nerfed now? >why not nerf engage supports which cause Utility mages and Burst Mages to be so useless? How do engage supports prevent utility and burst mages from being played midlane, can you clarify? What burst mages were even played before the ADC meta, Syndra? She just loses the early push to smithereens and it's very hard to play with 0 prio mid at a pro level. What is a "utility mage" that's been played mid? >entertaining mid metas its ever had LOL
17:55 yea bro whatever its all true for 650 range champions... But Graves still counts as ranged when you want to go in melee range most the times. Edit: How about graves counts as melee but loses 25 range? That would be cool by me anyways because a lot of times champs with small hitbox and a lot of movespeed like Jhin mostly are just running out of your auto range when they are running away fast enough. Being forced to be closer would be good either way.
Corki should just be reverted to his pre-rework state imo. He wasn’t as much of a mess back then. He also had a lot more build diversity/paths and was more fun to play. They had to keep him nerfed for pro play back then too but at least he was still fun
Changes to lissanra dont make sense. Just undo the base damage buff and buff the cd on q back to 6-3. Seriously dude. You can even take the 5% ap off that she got, just give her back her cd so her kit can function its horrific.
Lissandra is just dead. I'm just waiting for the champ to become support only like Velkoz and Lux. They do it to all mages. They just kill them and we wont see them again in mid
@@robertmusil1107 usually those mages in support have good base damages tho, liss doesn't and has short range with no mid range disruption. Imo she won't find much success in support.
Thank you for these videos. I've been listening to every single one of these for the past year and it's made me realize how much I love data, knowledge, and sharing knowledge. Thank you for your hard work, it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated
Do you have a rough timescale on the Wukong adjustments you spoke about doing later in the season?(From 2 patches ago) I'd appreciate it if you had a rough idea of when we would start to see his issues being tackled
Hey phreak, in the recent talk about the qiyana changes you wanted to make her more accessible to lower elo brackets while also nerfing her for the higher ones. Just from the stats (the ones that i can lookup) it seems like it had quite the opposite effect. Her increased early power made it easier for the master+ to snowball while the r nerf really gutted the lategame impact from qiyana in lategame fights in lower elos. Is there something planned for after worlds patch?
Thank you for all your hard work as always huge respect and also thank you for the small samira buffs it might not be much but we still appreciate it and hopefuly she will be a bit better in lane
I don't think pros are lane swapping to greed turret plates. I don't think these changes will stop lane swaps, it will just make them a bit worse for the bot lane that ends up going top.
@@billybobr2e2 Emily Rand summed it up pretty good a few broadcasts ago. Puts top laners behind, avoids bad matchups in the bot lane, and gives mid prio depending on how the supports rotate.
@@azraiel6000 I think the changes are enough that even those benefits will not be worth gold lost for the swapping team overall. The swapping team loses severely in gold in plate-taking speed now, so the economic benefit of negating a bad lane matchup is greatly blunted. Fort reducing an additional 40% damage for the 5 minutes is big… and bulwark base being 10 armor stronger with each fallen plate is also big. The judgement then will be whether it’s worth still sacking AD gold but also shutting down both tops and unlocking support, and I think the answer should be no.
Speaking from personal experience, I don't build Stormsurge as much as I maybe should because in most games it just feels like a "win more" sort of item meaning it competes with Shadowflame and Mejai's in my build path. Shadowflame provides a lot of AP and magic pen, and while it may not have move speed on it the passive effect feels a lot more applicable. As a burst mage versus full health squishes, if I'm doing enough damage to trigger Stormsurge I'm also more than likely going to be leaving them in range of Shadowflame's effect, so I can finish them with another ability anyways. I very rarely see the lighting strike do enough damage to finish someone like this. At the same time Shadowflame is still useful when picking off weakened enemies escaping a fight whereas Stormsurge is only giving me stats in that case. It also has synergies with Liandry's that make it still somewhat useful into tanky/health stacking comps, where Stormsurge is useless, and Malignance (sorta), which is a first buy for a lot of champs right now. Mejai's, on the other hand, may not provide pen or have an explosive passive effect but it provides way more AP and a similar bonus to movespeed at 10+ stacks while also being far cheaper and easier to ditch if the team falls behind and it runs out of value. There are also a handful of AP burst and burst-adjacent Champions who can and will build Lichbane instead because of how spammable it is (Diana comes to mind). Of course, all of this is a moot point if I don't have a convincing lead. If another carry got fed, especially if it's my fault for losing mid, I'd rather build literally anything else that'll help me survive engagements with the fed carry long enough to potentially make a comeback.
I was hoping you'd touch on the Threshold change because im not sure if its supposed to be a nerf or a buff. 25% means the 40s cooldown passive might prock on random poke and then you wont have it to full combo comeone
It just adds another strategic factor if that's what you have to think about; you have to save your 25% damage to someone if it means you want to full combo someone else.
You swing 11-32 W base damage from mid-late game Azir? without any other compensations? are you serious Phreak? This is not just hard nerf, Azir would become totally unplayable. Whose idea was it to nerf both the early game and late game? previous R nerf was much better. or just revert 3 armor buff.
What a big patch. I am curious and excited to see what champs will be played the most in Worlds. Hoping to see some good League of Legends games ^^ But I have to say, I'm also excited to see what is coming after this patch with the new/changed items. Keep it up guys :]
Im sorry but what the fuck is that azir nerf? one of the weakest soloq champs now gets even weaker? With the fleet nerfs, the wr will not just be -1.5%. This champ will go sub45% and probably 41-42% wr easily within the first 2 weeks. There's gotta be at least some compensation buffs - if you want to nerf the W base damage at least give him some AP ratios so he can scale into the late game (35-55% > 35-65%??).
And one more... is there any hope left to stop camille's rampage in higher elo by nerf/adjustment since her pickrate is quite good now? I think in 14.11 preview video u were expecting her to still be op and nerfs not being enough but it was supposed to be okay because of pick/ban rate.
In this vid he mentions Camille is way too strong in Solo Q to try to buff even more for pro. I believe they want to keep her strong to have pro consideration, because she does well against all currently meta pro tops
@@billybobr2e2 Ah okay thanks, tbh i didn't listen it thoroughly for whole 1h:14, sometimes speeding up to juice (most important info for me). So there is still hope lol.
I will be honest. Even with the context given, I still don't understand why Nasus is touched. He's shown up for all of 2 weeks in the last several years .. and only in a super niche situation and as a response to factors that have nothing to do with him. Even if he was a problem, who cares? We've never had Nasus matter at Worlds. Would it really be so bad to let him have his moment? So I just don't get it at all..
because he’s a cringe stat stick that takes no skill to play and is not inspiring or exciting watch since anyone can pick him and master the playstyle in 10 games but will make them want to claw their brains out
I have a Question Why not put range modifiers on Absorb Life and buff it for melee You mentioned before how the rune was a good refresher for laners to choose between it or triumph, and it was good while it lasted But you had to gut it because of range abuse in solo lanes and now taking it over Triumph is kind of a troll, and the fun part, ranged still abuse it in solo lanes while nearly 0 melee champ use it sadly
@@xroxas8431Graves was buffed last patch, could argue he could use another, but the Gnar buff is also pro oriented to open more top variety and counters to Ksante Renek Rumble

@@billybobr2e2 takes 1 indirect buff for gnar to get compensation buff took 18 in a row for a placebo buff then 4 inderct nerfs again before getting 1 half decent buff that gets negatet because lol lets kill graves keystone for him cause why not, balancing isnt about balancing anymore its riot favouretism
keep talking about tooltip stuff when possible, really appreciate it also if you have spare time please give gangplank passive an actual calc (US version) it's the last champion tooltip in the game (from what i could find) still using the old system
i hope they scrap the horrible runes and give us cool runes (like the inspiration tree minor runes rework) post worlds: unflinching, null orb, etc. Maybe bloodline and celerity too
I agree with changing the ultra niche runes like null orb and shield bash, but quite a few adcs rely on bloodline since they dont buy lifesteal until much later in game, and celerity is a very viable rune on any speed based champs (jhin, singed, lilia and even darius brings it sometimes as a counterpick with phase rush)
To me jack of all trades, waterwalking, ghost poro, zombie ward, absorb life after the nerfs, treasure hunter, unflinching and time warp tonic are bad and should be swapped for new runes or changed, revitalize and approach velocity also don't benefit a lot of champions
Have you given up on the idea of removing slow from skarner W? I remember it being a thing in one of the previous patch previews and thought it was a really good thing (assuming he'd get some compensation buff) since it's just a fimbulwinter proc button rn.
idk about stormsurge, a Xerath is gonna trigger that with one Q. ... and it even re-applies Liandry's, Blackfire torch, Rylai's, etc. with a nice 2s delay :o
Rumble shield is what makes him broken in high elo, not his damage. Him having a 100-1k health shield that gives him 45% movement speed (equivalent to GHOST) on a six second cooldown makes him an incredibly safe laner even if he misses all his abilities.
Yo phreak can you go through how you organise work for a few mins next time? You mentioned sprints but it's the estimations/breakdown etc. that I'd find interesting
As a assassin player it feels really bad to play alot of my champs in this meta I would like to see a nerf to shielding items or a buff to assassin items to maybe shred shields so that my champ pool is not countered by a few select items.
Isnt Liss winrate based off her counterpick though? Like just buff her Q to be 8-3 secs cd late so she doesnt need aggressive ap ratios (she shouldn't be comparable to singe). Gaining base damage on q and utility on ult to suddenly losing -10 ap ratio is not worth it I promise. All the Lissandra mains ask is that she may get a q cd change for the better and all her other issues can be figured out a later date. The only reason it got changed before was bc aftershock meta, the focus on her ratios instead of base damage should prevent that right?
Thank you for the preview and all the explanations I followed as good as possible. I was wondering where J4 is going as you buff him again! He seems to be very strong in soloq on Patch 14.17 already. Is this just another buff to sum up everything you had planned for him for worlds or what am I missing?
(We are Nerfing pro champs) Lee being the eastern pro champ might be the reason for no buff. I am surprised they didn't nerf him seeing what they did to Azir and Corki
Can we please have jungle Riven? It's like the one thing I want to do for some reason. And/Or she's my vote for the next rework. Or, I'd be really interested in a video where you deep dive into the criteria behind who gets to jungle, what kind of kits, or if it's purely thematic, etc. Thanks!
Azir will now effectively be removed from the game both in solo-q and pro play. Autos might unironically deal more dmg than W in some situations in the early game.
I think most of these changes are perfectly fine, but I don't get killing lane swaps now. They've been a thing all season, every region has had time to practice them if they want to, and the light touches they've been given have already curtailed their popularity. I think it would have made sense to leave them in for Worlds to see if LPL teams can adapt to them rather than strictly giving an advantage to the one region that never lane swapped and hurting the teams from other regions.
@clusterrockets I didn't find it boring the first time it was meta and I find this version is far higher pace than that was. I also think that it's fine to have a meta that doesn't equally include all play styles. We don't see assassins in pro, but few people complain about that. We can go a year without many mages or carry tops and have that be fine.
Hey phreak, if you really want to buff Jax.Give W and R a little Ad ratio(0.2 or 0.3?) and nerf some base damage. You say you want Jax to be a Carry. But now he's more like an AD Malphite .
Looking at senna's stats for this patch and previous patch... isn't she overpowered right now? isnt she anyways a champ that pros quite like to play. So then won't she have a dominating presence? Though tbh i primarily bring this up because i find her popularity and strength in solo Q to be obnoxious.
True but she does have a role in pro as lane counter to tank supports, in the LCS vs Rell specifically. I think they want to keep her strong for pro supp consideration to have more diversity for that role at Worlds
Love the high-elo skew buff for Jayce, but doesn't really matter as he still gets rolled too hard in his countermatchups, and doesn't win his good matchups hard enough like he used to. We need to decide either to make him tankier, or more lethal to be honest. I think evaluating what we want to do with him past this point is important Phreak! Another really overlooked thing to what you stated was that Jayce mid is fine. It has pretty bad laning + not safe + not good out of lane compared to every "lower winrate" champion.
Great Patch for ap burst Mains Like myself, who only Plays ap rengar top. I have only 1 request, can you play give His E root ability an ap Ratio so ap rengar Players can choose to empower W for heal and E for the utility root. Right now, using empowered E feels Like a waste.
I simply cannot understand any part of this nerf to Azir. I was favorable to the mini-rework you made last year in the patch 13.5, and i've been satisfied with the subsequent patches as well. While the results couldn't always be perfect, i was touched by your efforts to respect soloQ players. sometimes we got unavoidable nerfs for pro, i mostly underestood, until now. but what is this? W base damage nerf? with such ridiculous degree? You already know how unreasonable that nerf is. You wouldn't even keep your own promises, i'm so disappointed.
It’s a worlds patch mate. He said at the top some of these changes will over hit for solo Q. They have to do something about the champ that grew 30% in pro presence in one patch and has a good chance to be the #1 mid at Worlds despite his complete garbage solo Q stats.
@@billybobr2e2 I'm afraid you misunderstand what i'm talking about. I don't feel any bad even if they nerf Azir just because fo Worlds. this is an annual event, right? I've never seen Worlds where Azir hasn't been nerfed every singe year. so that's fine. for example, even if they nerf Azir's ult as Phroxzon has mentioned, i wouldn't really care. but this is different matter. this is way too much, and they crossed the line. this nerf instantly kills the champion from the whole game except pro-play. I wonder if there's a way to make turrets in top and bot work the same, with having the temporary bulwark from many players. Would be nice if it the same cause there's no.. "lore"(?) reason for turrets to be different in different lanes.
From patch 4.1, when they made it top mid specific: With these changes, we want to tackle the 2v1 lane swaps that many competitive teams have adopted in order to shut down enemy laners while also taking quick objectives. Initiating a 2v1 lane swap to shut down an opponent should have inherent risks, like leaving your bottom tower vulnerable to early pushes.
I never see assassin class in World-level series since S3. Every year we just see lee, xin, vi, maokai, j4, and viego in pro again and again. The dev team always emphasize champion variety, but assassin class looks deleted from this game.

As an ex-coach in semi-pro play, I can provide a little bit of insight into the Corki being ~0% ban 100% pick rate.
There's 2 cases where this can happen:
Case 1 is when players/coaches think the champ is consistently good but not oppressive.

When you are ahead move speed from stormsurge has bigger value than overkill damage numbers.
I think it's A. because people generally don't appreciate how powerful movementspeed can be, and B. the players that understand when movementspeed is better than raw damage are generally better than average so they skew the winrate up. It may very well be that Stormsurge isn't weak, just niche.
So you're suggesting it works kinda like mejias winrate? Plausible enough

With the tooltip changes, you should go back and add the missing stat trackers for the items that lost it (and never got it back) from last season.

This was the worst thing about the rework in my opinion. It has been hard for me to evaluate whether I made a good choice of item when I can't see the stats on my item.
@@scrappy_doogood we are tired of that oneshot bot
Can we have systemic nerfs to mage botlane? It's quite oppressive after the ADC systems nerfs. Support lane power is also overturned now because of ADCs being brought down.
Whenever I want to sleep I play your videos on 2x and I'm good to go. Thanks for the rundowns Phreak!
Thank you as always for keeping us in the loop with these update breakdowns phreak!
Thank you, phreak! I personally really appreciate you breaking down the patch notes so thoroughly.
People think Stormsurge is bad because players criminally underrate movement speed. As a Stormsurge abuser, I'm sad the move speed is going down, and think it's a nerf for AP Galio. Reminder that people thought Cloud Drake (before souls) was the worst Drake for years when it was factually the best, because everyone thought out of combat move speed was bad.
thank you for the hard work as always, phreak!
Exactly. Azir was picked after the first ADC nerfs again. He was always viable. Just hidden behind better options. Lissandra on the other hand...
They won't. That would mean admit a mistake
the bottom position has been in a horrible state for a long time.

Because that would mean they recognize they fucked up
If one ever wanted more diversity in league of legends, they would never start with improving it at midlane, which is already the most diverse lane by far.
>These ADCs dont automaticly win lane vs ALL mages, so they DO have counters
Not at the level where people, who play the game the best, play. Otherwise these counters would probably show up, right?
>Why should certain champs who werent even top tier ADCs be hit and go even deeper down the pool, while these champions, mind you, in soloQ have ALL the worst winrates for midlane
Again, because obviously when the game is played to the best of human ability, these champs are too strong.
>AD midlane champs got here due to Fated Ashes in the first place, why not nerf the item
This is at the very least incredibly hard to demonstrate.
What is a "utility mage" that's been played mid?
>entertaining mid metas its ever had
LOL
17:55 yea bro whatever its all true for 650 range champions... But Graves still counts as ranged when you want to go in melee range most the times.
Edit: How about graves counts as melee but loses 25 range? That would be cool by me anyways because a lot of times champs with small hitbox and a lot of movespeed like Jhin mostly are just running out of your auto range when they are running away fast enough. Being forced to be closer would be good either way.
Cocki is still too strong. Only reduced his Q skill damage by 20. He's still having a huge impact on mid-lane balance.
Corki should just be reverted to his pre-rework state imo. He wasn’t as much of a mess back then. He also had a lot more build diversity/paths and was more fun to play. They had to keep him nerfed for pro play back then too but at least he was still fun
I think it will be enough - pros are still playing on pre fleet nerf patches.

He already was burstable, he is a terrible duelist. It’s gonna be painful to play him this patch
Would Smolder's rise in midlane pick rate be explained by he just being the next ADC up after Trist/Lucian left the meta?
Is an scaling champ with a way to escape in the shortest lane. Eventually smolder would move to mid
Hey Phreak, you guys should implement a version of the Arena augment “Ice Cold” in summoners rift, where champions with slows gain an extra flat slow
So what exactly will azir get as a nerf? W or R? Both?
probably both because they hate this champion
I don't think pros are lane swapping to greed turret plates. I don't think these changes will stop lane swaps, it will just make them a bit worse for the bot lane that ends up going top.
… So what’s another reason? Both top laners are put behind by swaps, not just enemy team.
@@MeistroEckhart so should I just avoid poking with lux E or I trigger a 49 second cooldown accidentally? Doesn't sound very good design

But you had to gut it because of range abuse in solo lanes and now taking it over Triumph is kind of a troll, and the fun part, ranged still abuse it in solo lanes while nearly 0 melee champ use it sadly
They haven’t put ranged modifiers on it likely because minor runes don’t have melee/ranged splits
Imagine warwick or tryndamere with melee buffed absorb life 😂😂😂
The rune is a Bad design by itself. I won't be surprised if they remove it
Gnar already had a 40% PB in LCK Summer season. Why are there buffs for him on the Worlds patch?
Because Precision runes hard gutted, it's compensation buff and little one
@@yulian545 Base stat changes are never little and for your argument with precision rune nerfs, where graves buffs?
@@xroxas8431Graves was buffed last patch, could argue he could use another, but the Gnar buff is also pro oriented to open more top variety and counters to Ksante Renek Rumble
because he is fun to watch, wasnt overly played in other regions, and is getting compensation buffs, what do u want? 3rd worlds with ksante 1 million % pickban?
@@billybobr2e2 takes 1 indirect buff for gnar to get compensation buff took 18 in a row for a placebo buff then 4 inderct nerfs again before getting 1 half decent buff that gets negatet because lol lets kill graves keystone for him cause why not, balancing isnt about balancing anymore its riot favouretism
keep talking about tooltip stuff when possible, really appreciate it
also if you have spare time please give gangplank passive an actual calc (US version) it's the last champion tooltip in the game (from what i could find) still using the old system
i hope they scrap the horrible runes and give us cool runes (like the inspiration tree minor runes rework) post worlds: unflinching, null orb, etc.
@@chronoarms4821 feel that.. still dislike the nerfs or changes to get bonus hp. And it still just sucks on anybody but adcs
@@chronoarms4821shield bash isn’t even that niche, quite a few toplane tanks like taking it pretty consistently
I think fleet is also inherently problematic and should probably be removed in favor of something else.
To me jack of all trades, waterwalking, ghost poro, zombie ward, absorb life after the nerfs, treasure hunter, unflinching and time warp tonic are bad and should be swapped for new runes or changed, revitalize and approach velocity also don't benefit a lot of champions
When will kayn get his identity back? The power fantasy of getting form feels lacking
@ 12:45 does Phreak accidentally confirm the client is being updated (so that it can read calcs, in this example)?
Have you given up on the idea of removing slow from skarner W? I remember it being a thing in one of the previous patch previews and thought it was a really good thing (assuming he'd get some compensation buff) since it's just a fimbulwinter proc button rn.
His winrate was brought back up so there was no need Kappa
Wait, Azir's and Corki's nerfs in twitter are different, right?
Yeah, Corki’s nerf on Twitter was just the Q nerf, the R one is new.
idk about stormsurge, a Xerath is gonna trigger that with one Q.
... and it even re-applies Liandry's, Blackfire torch, Rylai's, etc. with a nice 2s delay :o
Love ya phreak, I learn so much
Rumble shield is what makes him broken in high elo, not his damage. Him having a 100-1k health shield that gives him 45% movement speed (equivalent to GHOST) on a six second cooldown makes him an incredibly safe laner even if he misses all his abilities.
Err no… he is strongest in lane long LONG before W is maxed. Idk what high ELO or pro games you’re watching
having different stats on items/runes for ranged users used to be a rare thing in League. now half the items have this attribute.
Yo phreak can you go through how you organise work for a few mins next time?
You mentioned sprints but it's the estimations/breakdown etc. that I'd find interesting
3:33 phreak my man you said something similar about enchantress senna and shes still kicking
As a assassin player it feels really bad to play alot of my champs in this meta I would like to see a nerf to shielding items or a buff to assassin items to maybe shred shields so that my champ pool is not countered by a few select items.
Love these analysis!
For the code Calc changes in the runes how do the champions reference the rune’s Calc if it’s in the rune itself?
Thank you for the preview and all the explanations I followed as good as possible.
I was wondering where J4 is going as you buff him again!
He seems to be very strong in soloq on Patch 14.17 already.
Is this just another buff to sum up everything you had planned for him for worlds or what am I missing?
Just another comment to appreciate your work, thank you for these insights.
Hope to see you at LCS Summer Finals.
No Lee Sin buffs is honestly surprising.
(We are Nerfing pro champs) Lee being the eastern pro champ might be the reason for no buff. I am surprised they didn't nerf him seeing what they did to Azir and Corki
AD itemization has never felt this bad.
ADC?
Adc itemization is bad for attack speed carries like jinx but items like bloodthirster, ie, pd and ldr are good, but ad assassin items suck tho.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN ME WHY YOU ADDED A TIMER FOR "DECLINING GAMES" BUT DIDN'T FIX THE CLIENT? XD
Ever thought about giving biscuits and bone plating/second wind a ranged mod?
the Samira tiny buff after every single item she uses got nerfed feels so insulting, please reconsider the .10 nerfs to her cuz she's really weak rn
55:56 honestly, yeah he kinda does care about crit chance, even at 25%. It’s a pretty decent increase to his Q damage
Since I got ticktes to Worlds. im so happy for these :DDD Hopefully we see some nice mage plays and less corki vs tristana vs zeri :D
Good patch run down. Thanks.
calc is short for calculation guys 11:33
I think most of these changes are perfectly fine, but I don't get killing lane swaps now. They've been a thing all season, every region has had time to practice them if they want to, and the light touches they've been given have already curtailed their popularity. I think it would have made sense to leave them in for Worlds to see if LPL teams can adapt to them rather than strictly giving an advantage to the one region that never lane swapped and hurting the teams from other regions.
It’s boring to watch and it kills any top carry picks.
I really hope I missed the patch where Jax was crippled and this is just to make him not a troll pick. Sheen W Q isn't something you can counterplay
Right now, using empowered E feels Like a waste.
no because no one likes you :)
revert sera PLS
thanks for your work.
@@billybobr2e2
I'm afraid you misunderstand what i'm talking about. And Phreak hasn't even mentioned any follow-up actions, such as reverting the nerfs after Worlds or providing new compensation buffs. he just brushed it all off. this is simply disrespectful.
@@김산-p7khe is 100% reverting the nerf after worlds. Just play a different champion for a few weeks or something. We don’t want to see Azir in Worlds every single game
Geng and.blg fans said riot.intentionally buff.azir. for faker.
That's the reason for nerf
@@김산-p7k trist got gutted like 4 patches ago and the only thing she has gotten since then is the system nerfs to adc like fleet footwork and adc items, phreak has not mentioned the champion since. Cry a river, it doesnt matter, riot doesnt care about you
Aaaand still no Garen nerfs. Come the fuck on.
if we gonna balance the game around "pro play" then just completely revert Corki back where it was he was waaay more healthy with package. Btw revert 14.10 adc patch
The whole reason Corki got changed is because the package was OP in pro so he couldn't be buffed and was forced to be dogshit in soloq.
@@Waterseeker_He is even more dogshit in soloque and he is even now more proplay skewed funnily xd
@@Waterseeker_ he is now even worse in soloque and more proplay focused than ever before. So rework is=a failure and =Phreak's failure
@@Waterseeker_ yeah, but he’s still being nerfed for pro play after the rework. I would rather he be nerfed into being weak while ALSO having the fun of the package and multiple build paths.
The only thing they had to do for ADC was returning the 25% crit chance on ítems. Nothing more. Every other change was an extra and now the role (specific, botlane ADC) is Even worse than before
Why I dislike stormsurge as a vex main it feels like the item's proc doesn't do that much damage
Rookie Leblanc got worlds skin in 2018, Zeka smurfed on Akali last year and got skin, Sylas Akali LeBlanc all had solid presence in worlds main stage 2021-23. Sorry it’s not Zed lol
@@billybobr2e2 Well these are all facts, but I cant really classify these champions as strictly assassin. Lb is a mobile burst mage, she is different from fizz. Akali sylas in mythic meta had decent health in build so they were much durable and more like battle mage. Assassin in my classification is a much smaller niche. My previous word might be too extreme, but with clarification the statement should have no problem.
@@Shaconogreed Yea modern pros are way too good to lose to glass cannon assassins anymore. To play a risky snowball champ with weak laning and low utility who depends on a chaotic early game, over a scaling mage or DPS threat in an atmosphere where late game is much more likely than in solo Q, would require the assassin or their items to be unhealthily overturned
30:10 why is shen allowed to have like a 15%(?) Health scaling on shield plus 15% health scaling on E? And then also like 3 trillion health scaling on ult but skarner 5% HP scaling on Q would be too much? Or 6% again?
Cooldown
@@ignacioperez5479 yea exactly shen has even lower cooldown just what im saying
You are not comparing Shen with one of the most broken champions in the game, aren't you?
@@gabrielfreitas2645 pretty sure youre dumb
I feel like Neeko is gonna be a huge pick again at worlds, players just love flash R on her soooooo much.
i thought we were buffing akali and fun champs so that pros would pick them in worlds instead of tanks and as mids and what not?
The reason why Corki rework failed is because you are incompetent. But you can always blame the pro meta and nerf a 43% winrate champion again 5 patches in a row so don't worry
