- The Aprilia RS 457 has breathed new life into the sub-500cc supersport twin segment. But, is it the best supersport twin for you? To find out, we pitched it against its arch rivals, the new Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 500, over a 300km road-trip along the coastal roads of Konkan. These roads threw everything at the three contenders - city traffic, arrow straight highways, twisting mountain roads, broken & bumpy tarmac, and what have you! It’s fair to say that it was a ‘real world’ test for these machines in India in the true sense.
So, which one’s the best overall? Hear it from Aakash, Karan, and Shivank as they camp along a beachfront and get down to each and every detail that matters, and give you their final verdict after riding these bikes for over 300km.

Would you pick the R3 or Ninja 500 over the RS 457 if all three were priced similarly? Let us know in the comments!
No
Aprilia
Rs457
Yes Ninja 500.
Aprilia RS457 without a doubt ❤❤
500 is built to showcase the legacy , 457 is built to rule the segment wherein R3 is here for formality.
R3 here for formality?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Some people can't go beyond the spec sheets and it shows.
Legendary r3
Bro summarised three bikes in a sentence.
@@divyeshpatel1539and it seems ur just a fanboy
@@divyeshpatel1539fanboys can stay out... Its not just the specs or just how long the engine runs... Others are not making their engines with bricks n clay... To offer R3 without even slipper clutch is criminal and you can even sacrifice ABS at this point... Keep sayin R3 is legendary... it's OLD and OUTDATED, that's what it is now... People gettin triggered when faced with facts
I own the BS4 R3 for 5 years now. I paid 3.96 L OTR in Chennai and in 2018 it was expensive for me compared to the localized Ninja300. I have clocked 80000 kms and it only broke down 2 times. Once was my fault because I didn't check the battery and other was a switch issue at around 70000 kms. That's what you pay for - Reliability. Until and unless you own a R3, you will not understand and value this point. I mostly tour on the R3. Most owners in India use it as a sports tourer and that's why reliability is super important. I have taken the bike to remote places without any fear.
A quick point on service costs - general service is between 3500 - 4500 ₹. It's an easy bike to work upon by yourself. Bike's design is very smart. Takes literally 10 minutes to change air filter. In some bikes it may take up to 40 minutes. Getting major parts takes time because it's imported from Indonesia.
Loved this video! Cheers AutoX team!
Great insights! Thank you for sharing. 🙌
Most people will only say "too expensive, no value for money" and "where are the features like RBW, TFT and all"
They have no idea that a motorcycles merit is in how it makes you feel, not in spec sheets.

Last month, I picked up the N500 here in Bangalore. After owning the 2017R3 and the Versys 650, I knew I had to stick with the Japanese big four for their unbeatable reliability and extensive service network.
One thing that often gets overlooked in reviews is the fantastic network of Kawasaki riders across India. These guys are all over WhatsApp, Telegram, and other chat groups, and they really enhance your biking experience. It's not just about the bike itself; it's about the community. Whether you need breakdown assistance, route advice, or just want to connect with fellow riders, this network has got your back, making every ride more enjoyable and stress-free.
Now, about Aprilia-sure, their performance and specs are tempting, but they still have to prove themselves when it comes to reliability and quality. It’s easy to get dazzled by the numbers, but I'm sticking with a brand that I know won’t let me down.
True, when you’re spending that kind of money, peace of mind comes first. Riding a motorcycle hard & fast over a weekend is one thing, living with it for years is another. Only time will tell if Aprilia can match the Japanese manufacturers in this area, but we are hopeful…🤞🏽
Hey bro. I also bought my Ninja this month. I am looking for an owners group. Can you help me connect?
Aprilia has been notorious for being unreliable over the years, people who are glossing over the specs should look at other factors too
Very true but i just wish that they made the ninja 500 a little more affordable like the Aprilia
Seriously R3 , just look at it , who will think it's a big bike everyone think that it's some modified R15 or something even RC looks better than it with more tech and less ownership cost .
They should have lunched previous R3 it was much better or atleast we can say that it's old bike.
R3 in other countries 💀
R3 in India 🤡🤡
But seriously i waited so long for it to launch only to disappoint me lol
If 'Dil chahta hai' was made today with three friends and motorcycles ❤

@@Vinay-yz3wd so I talked to the guys at woodcraft to find what slider spools to use, 6mm, and they said a buddy of theirs had bought and rs457 and is letting them borrow it to develop products, like triple clamps, and they're an American company so that's how I know you that it's already been released here in America in certain areas.
Bro the question here is reliability and parts. I own a sr160 and the experience was terrible. It's just like buying a benelli or cfmoto. It's your hard earned cash for if going for 457 wait for bit and see how it fares after a year or so and then buy it.

25:06 R3 is coming from Indonesia. Not Thailand! And not a word about fuel efficiency either! Come on!
This is an otherwise fabulous video ! Btw I found the Service costs. Thank me later.
R3 - 2000 - 3500.
RS457 - 3500 approx.
N500 - Easy 7000+
My bad on the Thailand/Indonesia thing. Apologies for that. We didn’t include fuel efficiency in the video because we don’t think it’s a deal breaker for any of these bikes, and it was more or less the same for all. If you want numbers, the Yamaha returned around 28km/l, Kawasaki around 25km/l & Aprilia 23km/l. The Aprilia was ridden the hardest of the three though & it also has the smallest tank.
RS457 free service is of 3500
A paid service will touch almost similar figures as the Ninja 500 of around 6.5-7k

Therefore used market value will drop heavily, just wait till some showoff will buy new and then realize used z800 was better option.
Aprillia is made in India
R3 is a very nice bike .....but problem is price ... its very over priced bike & featureless also ...
Nice review and covered most of the relevant points. Appreciate the fact that you took pains to show us the headlight illumination in night - These kind of things are difficult to know - as most reviews don't cover it and a simple test ride won't tell u these things.
I had BS4 Yamaha R3 - that came with Metzeler tyres and dual channel ABS. It was indeed an epic bike - I would enjoy it most on wide open highways where it could easily cruise between 140-150kmph whenever conditions permitted that and it was super fun doing that on R3. The exhaust note was addictive. The thing I missed on R3 was the lack of low end grunt. I switched to BMC air filter and that improved low end to some extent but still not to the point of satisfaction.
the biggest advantage of both Aprilia and Ninja 500 over R3 is that they pack a lot of grunt even at low RPMs compared to R3.
Glad that you liked the comparison! And yes, with a bit more juice in the lower revs would make the R3 package more complete.
Aprilia is the new kid who answers everything in class, but whose test performance in the long run we don't know
The ninja 500 is the best competitor to the rs 457. The r3 is more comparable to the rc390. 400cc and 300cc have become two completely different categories. 🕉️
I do long rides … my first choice in bike is comfort … Aprilia is bad in comfort, kawasaki is best
Basically it's between the Ninja and RS.. The R3 seemed to be just there somehiw in the entire vlog...
The r3 has to be priced a lakh cheaper than the rs457 to cause any confusion. Still the Italian would win. Performance, handling, equipment is far superior.

any idea why the entire front portion including the headlights, dances detached while on bumps?
What about best year/version of KTM RC 390 vs Aprilla 457?
Waitimg for 457 tourer and adventure
Interesting differences for the US model Ninja/Z 500 Kawasaki's. Here the motor is rated at 51bhp or approximately 6 additional over the A2 version it appears you also get. Curious if you think that would have affected your comparative conclusions?
With the higher power output, the Ninja would have been in an even better position for sure. I mean Karan would have definitely been swayed towards it 😉
6bhp would not make any difference in the overall riding experience. The Ninja 500 is a relaxed sports tourer, so the inherent nature of the motorcycle won't change. That's what I believe. :)
Really considering an RS 457
Janta ne apna faisla de diya hai 300-500 cc sport segment king bow is aprillia and shattered the kawasaki sales by doing 231 units in april ❤❤

Only from the looks perspective R3 looks very old and some what comparable to NINJA 300. It needs serious update. R15 is being updated with R1M design and R3 is left for itself.
Yes the R3 looks a little old but still has a charm. But yes, an update to the bike would make it so much more exciting!
How could they miss talking about the brakes on rs457?
It's brakes are good on road, problem is only on track where they overheat a bit
Hi there! We did mention the brakes at around 11:10 & 16:50. Just a quick roundup - the Ninja has very progressive brakes with great feel and bite. The RS 457 feels more aggressive but not as consistent. The R3 has a very balanced approach compared to the two. You won't have any problem with the Ninja and R3 in day to day riding while the RS 457 might fall behind a little. 🙂
Nice Video , I know its a single cylinder but dont understand why Everyone is not bringing RC 390 in this comparo.
How about Ninja parts availability?
Excellent comparo😊, but just wanted to add a word "Ninjas are reliable" Autox!
They definitely are, we never said it's not. But in terms of overall reliability of the machine, plus the trust factor, aftersales, maintenance costs, dealer network, etc., Yamaha is probably slightly better.
What about the seating comfort for long rides like 500-600 kms per day? Is the seat good enough for long rides?
Not the Aprilia for sure, it has the thinnest padding. The Ninja's seat felt the most comfortable/cushiest for long rides, followed by the R3's.
Good to watch a video without bias to see comparisons. Many of us are biased. Have Ninja 400. Tend to stick with Kawasaki, and the Ninja has 40 years, and the 1st to produce the smaller bore sporty entry level bikes.
Typical of Kawasaki, they're raw. Run forever, powerhouse motors, but Kawasaki is not concerned with creature comforts and has odd styling, lol.
Have several Kawasaki's. Kids had little KX dirtbikes, and race Kawasaki ATV's and have had several models. So I'm biased and just stick to what I know, what I know how to work on, and know that Kawasaki is simply minded on parts. I.e., rear Master Cylinder and reservoir is the same from 1978 to current, for dirt or street. Kawasaki Ninja is super comfortable to ride whether in town, through some twisty's, or out on the highway, but.... The seat sucks on the other hand. Kawasaki.... Lol.
where is this location, it looks beautiful ❤❤ so does the bikes
Kawasaki has spoiled ninja 500 indian variant by reducing its power from 51 bhp to 46 bhp
Why did it reduce though?
Can anyone tell me which highway it is
Just a debate on bikes
I was expecting roadtrip leans, topspeed etx
You guys need to compare those Aprilia and R3 with Ninja ZX 400 RR
All very nice, but for me, I’m sold on the Aprilia based on performance, looks and tech. I’d rather spend a little more and buy an Aprilia RS660 though. Great review! 👍🏼
Well...the RS660 costs four times more than the RS457 in India.
@@shivank_bhatt unbelievable 😢

Hi people
I really need help,
So i have a dominar 400 for my usual daily commute and weekend rides that happen once every 2 months. And i really want to get a sports bike. But the issue is when will i even use it, as for trips dominar really is comfortable along with pillion or luggage. I really like rs457 but I can’t take it on my trips and even i wouldn’t use it in city cause that would be a wasted potential. So the question is should i listen to my heart and go for it, or just take a smaller sports bike like a r15 and use it in city and keep dominar for trips. I really fancy the idea of a sports bike and even had cbr650r in my mind but i am not able to find a use case as my dominar really is covering a hell lot of ground(i hate and love it for that). I really thought it would be easy to just get what you like, well seems the maturing up is getting to me.
Any suggestions are welcome
Thankyou.
Pick the Aprilia if you want full sports bike experience, it’s manageable in the city and occasional weekend rides. But if you want more comfort, the Ninja 500 is the better bet. R15 would feel underpowered compared to the Dominar. The CBR650R is a good option, too, but you won’t find a used bike easily, and even if you do it won’t come cheap. Better to buy new.
Mileage compare?

Currently Aprilia 457 rocks❤
No one's talking about Aprilia's plastic/dash problems, Aprilia used kind of low quality plastic parts it starts fading even tho its new. And brakes are Aprilia are not good enough. And some heating issues.?
