I was driving when this first came on the radio back in '91. The first piano notes from Bruce Hornsby made me pull over to listen to the whole thing. One of the finest songs ever.
I can't make you love me , William if you don't. Love goes both ways. I have given up this fight. I was so forward him loving me back , he don't love me , I have to accept this. Loving someone and who don't love you back its hurts. This song is healing for me. Thank you, Bonnie for this song.
To miss Bonnie raitt thank you for the song 🎶🎼🎵 i cant you make you love it helped me with hard sad 😢 painful times in my life happy birthday 🎂🎉🎉 miss bonnie
No one can sing this song like her ❤ can feel the pain in her voice N this song is specially close to my heart as it helped me heal during my separation
Gorgeous version, Bonnie imbues unpretentious self confidence and her effortless delivery of emotions on this modern masterpiece, many singers take on this song but I think Bonnie has just the right chops to give it just what it needs to reach the heart and tackle a subject many women and men deal with in their lives. Bonnie Raitt has always found the right balance of so many styles of music,,rootsy, bluesy, funky, rock & roll, r & b, soulful, folksy, reggae, world music, she encompasses so much talent and gives back to so many, an American treasure!
As a big fan since her first LP in ‘71 (and later having seen her shows underselling available tickets for so long), I rejoiced when she FINALLY broke through to a large audience in ‘89 with that huge success. BTW If you can find “Bonnie Raitt: Road Tested” in any format (It was released on Laserdisc and later on DVD.) - highly recommend.
Beautiful in the most painful sense, totally heartbreaking scenario and I'm sure we have all been there during our lives. So gut wrenchingly sad but true.
Softest piano I've ever heard. Great memories of this song, as well as bad. This version is absolutely amazing, her voice so powerful. Experiencing this again, hurts worse every time..
I've long suspected that the thumbs-down come from people who just want to see the number change. Makes them feel like they're having an effect on the world.
I agree. Singers tend to do that because they get bored with the original melody, most often for the worse. I think this song is so jazzy and free to start with, that adding or removing too many melodic parts make it break really easy.
Many have done this cover well, but none has captured the essence of her sadness and sorrow related with this song. Thus leaving the cover with a great sound but no substance. Her delivery with the sorrow and vulnerability really is the hard part to cover.
There's a girl who just released this Cover. Her name is just Chase, she also sings with a Cover Group called Foxes and Fossils who are a Great Cover Band. I beg of you to listen to chase's Cover, You will not Regret It. Only been out 6 days!
@@huehue6948 I think it's more about unrequited love, and sad acceptance of the the truth. (The right words aren't coming to me. Something more than "sad".)
I remember my mom died several years later, but I don't think it had anything to do with this song or this performance. In fact, I don't even know what the connection is or why people keep talking about it and then laughing like it's some kind of joke.
I just listened to the Prince version. It was okay, but no fireworks. The Bonnie Raitt version is a song other great artists like Prince and Michael should avoid, for their own sake

Yup, man those very first notes just completely captured me when I heard this for the first time… literally yesterday.
No one can sing this song like she does.

Can we just appreciate the pure, unadulterated good music here. Nothing fancy, no bells and whistles. So good.
Yup,

You won’t see anything like this from an artist in 2021 .. those days are over ...
65yo man and crying like a baby …I really needed that thanks Bonnie
What an immaculate, singular voice. How lucky we are to have lived in her time.
Pure perfection in song and voice !!! Best sad ballad of all time !!! Bonnie rules on this !!!
Nothing more hurtful but so very true the tears I cried over a man who just threw me away.
No one can sing this song like her ❤ can feel the pain in her voice N this song is specially close to my heart as it helped me heal during my separation
One of the best songs ever written and best singers Bonnie Raitt.

You must be a musician ..
One of the most moving songs ever.

Ha! I was at this Tonight Show taping in the audience!
This version might be even better than the album. Thank God Bonnie Raitt got to sing this song. She was perfect for it.
Beautiful in the most painful sense, totally heartbreaking scenario and I'm sure we have all been there during our lives. So gut wrenchingly sad but true.
One of my favourite all time songs. So soulful and full of passion.
I remember when she sang this. Sultry. She was just getting over a relationship.☹🙂beautifully done Bonnie.
Wow! Incredible! So sincere, so true! Thank you Bonnie.
Great Song!

She's got one of those effortless voices. That's what makes this timeless.
How could 1 person give this a thumbs down? One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed.... Period!
Thumb slip? 🤷♀️
Born a loser ?

Yes underrated
Such a beautiful song. I think only people of a certain age and experience can truly understand this song
Truth. You gotta have some scars to understand this song.
Amazing piano.... and voice!
Bonnie! What else can I say, Bonnie!
Awesome!
EFFORTLESS!!! And there's a version of this live 20 years later. This woman was BORN to sing!
Amazing simply amazing
Bonnie your awesome!
Beautiful ❤
I love this version. Sometimes she sings it a bit off beat and it isn't quite the same.
I agree. Singers tend to do that because they get bored with the original melody, most often for the worse. I think this song is so jazzy and free to start with, that adding or removing too many melodic parts make it break really easy.
喜欢她的嗓音。既高亮又沙哑。
Anybody else here because their heart hurts
I can't make Sherryl love me if she dont 💔😟🥺
This song absolutely destroys me
Whish this was 4K.
No Bruce, still amazing though. I'm sure she couldn't get him on every performance.
Pure

@@jerrybach1234 Chase's version is very good. But this is heartbreaking.
What is the story behind ths song..i love it so much..i just dont know why..
@@angeliebisual7164 its a song about someone who needs to face a break-up she doesn't want.

OMG I really thought George Michaels MTV Unplugged version was the best, however this is just so amazing. Stunning !!
Bruce Hornsby does a better version than GM. I'm not a Bonnie Raitt fan but not heard a version that gets anywhere close to her on this song.
From princess diary
This says 1991. Was Jay standing in for Johnny on this night because Johnny didn’t step down till May 22, 1992.
yes
Check out Prince's version....
I just listened to the Prince version. It was okay, but no fireworks. The Bonnie Raitt version is a song other great artists like Prince and Michael should avoid, for their own sake
Matthew Hashimoto brought me here in 2018
the song was cowritten by former nfl dl mike reid bengals
Give it to Adele
Adele has nothing on Bonnie Raitt.
Hell no.
Try George Michael. I love Adele but he put her to shame on this one
