  • Simbu Wedding: The speech from the Bride's People.
This is the 3rd part of the Simbu Wedding in Papua New Guinea. After the bride is dressed and food is prepared and brought to the area of gathering, the bride's people start the speeches. There can be up to 3 speakers or more. The speeches from the brides people are usually long.
Simbu weddings are usually in 3 parts. Part 1 is "Makim pay", a party hosted by the bride's people to ask the grooms people for bride price. Part 2 is "Givim pay", a party hosted by the groom's people that involves paying the bride price. Part 3 is the "Bilasim meri", the bride is dressed and given over to the groom.

Nice speech, recounting past events and emphasising why he takes a harsh stance in the treatment of his daughter...

Some man in PNG think that when they pay a huge bide price for a woman they think that they own her and can do any thing they want. Nice speech to all the PNG man folks.
