  • Sunscreens and moisturizers are two absolute requirements in every one skincare routine. Unfortunately, not all sunscreens are created equals. If you are here it is because you deserve to know the truth. Here is why American sunscreens are so far behind compared to EU and Asian sunscreens. If you still want to buy American sunscreens I recommend the one from Elta MD but try to opt for Japanese sunscreens.

    Another thing, in the US it is not mandatory for a company to mention wether they use nano or non-nano physical filters. This is because the FDA didn't define nano particles. Companies are therefore allowed to claim to produce non-nano sunscreens, while according EU regulation they would be considered nano sunscreens (Paula's Choice does this for example). Nano zinc oxide protects less well against UVA, and what you said, the US already have limited options for UVA protection.

    • @CyrilleLaurent

      They have limited options and no requirement for a minimum of protection ...

    U.S. sunscreens are indeed behind in the science of sunscreens. The Elta MD is a good recommendation and also easy to find but the Asian sunscreens are worth the hunt for protection and formulation. From time to time I also use the SuperGoop mineral sunscreen but I layer it over a broad spectrum.

    I saw. A HUGE difference in my rosacea when I layered my exuviance all mineral SPF 50 SPF with LPR SPF 15 SX moisturizer. I couldn't believe it. Even with just SPF 15! I could not believe UVA was causing so many issues for me 😭

    Hi Cyrille,
    You are so the best and my favorite! I am from the US and I am not offended that you don’t like our sunscreens, I don’t either! Lol! 😜 I heard that if you suffer from hyperpigmentation you should use physical/mineral sunscreen. Is this true? I find them drying. Can you recommend a moisturizing sunscreen that won’t dry my skin out? How is Krave Beauty’s Sunscreen? Will it protect against hyperpigmentation? Also, I have a dark skin tone (from India) so no white-cast is imperative. Please help!

    • @CyrilleLaurent
      @CyrilleLaurent  5 лет назад +4

      Hi, a good organic sunscreen is better in case of hyperpigmentation with the new filter. You can try EU sunscreens if you can find them. My favorite one is The SVR CICAVIT SPF50+. If it's easier for you the Krave Beauty Beet Shield is excellent. It has alcohol so be careful if you have sensitive skin but it is not drying.

    Merci Cyrille, j'ai encore appris des choses ! Si un jour vous avez le temps de faire une revue sur les solaires de la parapharmacie française ce serait très intéressant mais je sais que ça prend du temps de tout détailler comme vous le faites. Avez vous un avis sur les filtres utilisés par skin ceuticals dans leur solaire non minéral. J'ai envie d'essayer aussi aquafluid de Bioderma ... Vous le connaissez?

    • @CyrilleLaurent
      @CyrilleLaurent  5 лет назад +1

      Hello, let's say that it is reassuring but only a test can tell us. The concentration and how the filters are dispersed are key. A good example is the Drunk Elephant Umbra that has 20% of Zinc Oxide and it is only an SPF30... Why ? likely because the Zinc is not well dispersed ...

    Hi great video! Since I have very sensitive skin I'm little bit scared to use organic filters so I tend to use only physical filter like zinc oxide. I'm willing to use the MD solar sciences sunscreen Spf 50 with 17% of zinc oxide dispersed by a base of dimethicone. What do you think of the formula? Do you think it will provide at least PPD 20?

    • @CyrilleLaurent
      @CyrilleLaurent  5 лет назад +2

      Hello, unfortunately only a proper test can tell us the PPD value. The SPF and the UVA protection depends on the concentration and how well filters are dispersed into the vehicle. The Drunk Elephant has 20% of zinc oxide and it is only an SPF30... Try the Purito Centella green level or the SVR CIcavit. The filters are very different from the usual organic ones...

    Hello Cyrille, I am learning a lot from your videos. I have a request though, would you please review the new Bioderma Photoderm Family Milk/Lait? It has UVAPF42 and doesn't leave a whitecast, is alcohol-free and fragrance-free too! It is slightly yellow. I believe the Uvinul A plus in this product is on 10% concentration (2nd ingredient). US Sunscreens SUCK. Thick, greasy, heavy, pore clogging. Once I found out about sunscreens from other countries, I never looked back. Could you recommend a way to push for these new sunscreens in the US? I've emailed the FDA, and got a generic response. I also emailed my representatives but also got a generic response.
