Joshua Watson just because it was hand drawn does not mean it deserves a free victory as I didn’t feel a unique style oozing out of cuphead but I felt like the style ooze was flowing all over me in P5

Nathan Wtk Persona 5 had a lot of style with it's art direction. It's hard to explain if you haven't played it but Persona 5 definitely had one of the best UI design I've ever seen. However I'm still happy with Cuphead's win.

Studio MDHR stated that they own the Cuphead IP. Microsoft just helped funding it. The reason why Cuphead isn't in the PS4 (or in this case Switch) is because they appreciated the help. Oh, and there's not much great exclusives on Xbox One. I hope that Cuphead is a timed exclusive.

There should be a 'best art design' award AND a 'best art direction' award. Cuphead's got great art design. It might be unfair on Breath of the Wild, or maybe Horizon Zero Dawn, that one of those two didn't win 'best art direction'. A 3D space is so difficult to direct.

INGSOC no, you're completely ignoring the size of the teams that do all the specialized things you speak of. There are teams dedicated to do each department in 3d games. Just because 3d games are composed of more complex parts doesn't mean it automatically requires more hard work. That hard work is distributed among more people.

Personally, I believe persona 5 deserved to win in terms of being more artistic. However, in terms of artstyle cuphead was more unique and I completely understand why it won.
I understand why Cuphead won, but personally I think Zelda had the better art direction. It had a really unique style with cell-shading, neon lights and ancient technology in a fantasy world. And it was also practical since they were able to make a massive open world game that still looked amazing despite the Switch's limited hardware.

don't get me wrong i love persona 5, and boy that was the most stylish game I've ever played. but cuphead hands down is deserving of this title.
