      Games became trash in the internet dlc era. The fact that few cames come fully complete so the developers can extort the gamer is a travesty. It's one of the reasons why Baldur's Gate 3 sold so well and was well-received. Larian developers hate the dlc model and released the game complete by their standards aside from a few add-ons that they update freely.

      That's true, I've come to the realization that SC is the only Japanese series that actually has a proper premise for a fighting game, and the only one aside from Mortal Kombat and Injustice to have such a thing. SF and Tekken sadly don't have these premises, even with their rich lore, the premises at the end are very empty, unlike SC.

GG's story is too complicated while also having very bad directions, as both the stories in Xrd and Strive have no gameplay matches at all and the Strive one didn't even include all the base roster chars in it, making the story having a terrible character presentation. SC5 did that mistake also as a ton of chars didn't appear at all in SC5's story, but they fixed it in SC6, which is one of the reasons why MK and IJ stories are fantastic.

    Great video, I really enjoyed it.
    I was 17 the first time I played Soul Edge in the arcade in 1996. I worked in the stockroom of a department store (Montgomery Ward for those old enough to remember it lol) in my local mall and I would walk down to "Aladdin's Castle" which was the arcade in the mall and play Soul Edge. I loved it. I had grown up playing arcade fighters, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat being the biggest, but this was the first with weapons that I really liked. I remember when Soul Blade came out for PS1 I used to walk over to the electronics dept and look at it through the glass just waiting on my next paycheck so I could get it lol. When I finally did I was blown away by all the new modes, Weapon Master Mode being the coolest. Everyone wanted to play it when they'd come in and see me playing it, even people that weren't gamers.
    I played SoulCalibur a few times at the arcade when it hit but not that much. The Dreamcast was the first console I bought with my own money and I picked up my pre-order from K B Toys and SoulCalibur was of course a day 1 buy. I remember being so blown away by the graphics when I got it home. Everyone was. And again, those non-gamers were playing SoulCalibur just like they'd done with Soul Blade. SoulCalibur is still my favorite in the series. You can definitely make the argument that SCII has the best fighting engine, but the original SC was the most approachable. I've never seen another fighting game that would immediately catch the eye of anyone that saw it and when given a controller they were INSTANTLY having a blast with it.
    Fun fact, when SoulCalibur released on iOS many years ago I downloaded it on my iPad and was able to claim the top spot in the world with Mitsurugi in Survival Mode for a time, something me and my cousins used to spend hours and hours playing on Dreamcast trying to best each others records.
    By the time SCII came out I was a big Xbox fan ( I was a Sega kid growing up and a lot of Sega fans - myself included at the time - blamed Sony and the monumental hype of the PS2 for killing the Dreamcast) and absolutely LOVED SCII. The fighting engine was the deepest and most competitive yet. They brought back Weapon Master Mode. I really loved it. But when Namco announced SCIII and that it would all-of-a-sudden be a PS2 exclusive I was not happy. Not because I wouldn't be able to play it, I owned a PS2, but because the Xbox version of SCII had been the superior version of the game technically while the PS2 version was the worst as it was the oldest hardware. I still really enjoyed SCIII though. It suffered from some major frame-rate issues at times and was a graphical downgrade from the Xbox version of SCII, but it made up for it in modes. As you pointed out it had a ton of modes and the were all fun. I spent a lot of time playing Chronicle sof the Sword and in the character creator. What I liked about SCIII's character creator mode over the games that came after was that they had made specific new fighting styles for custom characters that you could use.
    As for SCIV, I actually really enjoyed it. I loved the guest characters and I got REALLY into the character creator. I made TONS of characters. I really enjoyed the gameplay too even with it being slower than previous games. But that online was pretty laggy lol. SCV was fun but easily my least favorite. I hated that they just pallet swapped all our favorite characters with new ones lol. But I still played a ton of it so it wasn't a bad game. I really like SCVI, still play it with my friends pretty regular. I'm with you though on wanting a new graphical and art style if they ever make a new game.
    Sorry for the long ramblings but the SoulCalibur series is easily one of my all-time favorite game series. I've played every iteration from when they launched from the very first game in the arcades and have loved them all. Dang, man... this was a beautifully done video. As someone who was given a Dreamcast and a copy of Soulcalibur at the age of 6, it's one of my favorite fighting games of all time. I would love to see it return one day, but I resonated with everything you had to say about 4 and 5's damage to the series longevity. It is painful to admit that it's in a terrible spot at the moment, but, surely, 6 can't be the end.

    If I recall correctly, the SC3 memory card glitch was caused by having certain games saved on the same card, one of them being DMC3. And it would corrupt more than just your SC3 save. I'm a little fuzzy on it right now, but I think it would create a ghost slot that prevented you from using that card to save SC3, or it would delete saves from other games as well.
    It's a real shame, cause we never saw original fighting styles again in the series.

    • @TurboV8boi
      @TurboV8boi 6 месяцев назад +1

      I seem to remember something along those lines too, this save would mess up other unrelated saves.

    • @forgot7en
      @forgot7en 5 месяцев назад

      I don't have the whole story, but I do know for a fact that what corrupted your SC3 save file was deleting saves from other games. I don't know for certain if any specific games caused problems, but did in fact have DMC3 saves at the time, and at some point my save data was actually corrupted without me deleting anything. However, the only issue was that it wouldn't save the game anymore, but by that point, I'd already unlocked everything.
      But if you deleted any other save data, that would automatically ruin your save file completely. Thankfully it never happened to me.

    • @abadenoughdude300
      @abadenoughdude300 4 месяца назад +2

      Guess I was fortunate to have both SC3 and DMC3 (SC3 on two memory cards, in fact, for a larger custom roster) and never had issues. It would annoy the crap out of me if I lost all my designs and had to unlock everything all over again.

    • @Slender_Man_186

  • @markvilstrup4121
    @markvilstrup4121 День назад +1

    I spend countless hours on Soulcalibur 3, so the way to do Soulcalibur 7 is simple to me.
    A giant focus on character creation, and a big cast of characters, playable and NPC. The 6th game had some good stuff, but you had to buy packs of character creation content, and that isn't the way to go. It's also felt much more limited in what items you had to choose from, and what fighting styles.
    So add more fighting styles, and add an incentive to get those items by playing the different modes, like in the third one. It felt like you could create anything.
    On top of that, make 'weapon creation'. A way to style and customize your weapons, since it's a weapon based game. I always wondered why that was never really included.
    Give each character more lore, and a way to explore that lore by playing them. They each have a style and a story to tell, focus on that.
    And on a personal note, for Gods' sake, add a character with a halberd. It's my favorite weapon!

I loved the 3D era of those games as they had adventure modes and puzzles modes! Since going back to 2D they just cut everything out that made it have more longevity and now made it only 1v1 fighting with cutscenes and it just didn’t hold my attention. I love Soulcalibur III so freaking much on the PlayStation 2 that it’s on the level of Soul Blade, Soulcalibur and Soulcalibur II in four corners showdown for best installment of the series but I wish it was also on Xbox and GameCube, it would sold a lot more copies IMO, I love the critical finishes and bonus characters in Soulcalibur IV as well even if they were a ripoff of the same character in that game, as for Soulcalibur V, I love the gameplay and the new characters for the game but I wish gameplay was tweaked some more and and wish the Story Mode was written a lot more better than what we originally got and as for Soulcalibur Legends, I love the gameplay but I wish they put in more content in the game and tweaked the controls to make it a bit more responsive but I’m looking forward to playing it for the first time ever! I will forever love this fighting game series until the day I die and I hope and pray that we get a new game in the series very soon in the future but that isn’t saying much right now as of 2024! But come on, a fighting game newbie/casual like me can dream, am I right?

    If Namco considers the sales of SC6 to be a success, i don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t return to the series, especially considering how iconic it is.
    Fantastic video btw 👏

    16:12 character creation in SC3 was amazing. I loved that game

    What sold it for me was the aspect that each weapon you used had different properties and attributes... it made fighting more inventive

    It's interesting to me because V was my introduction to the series and I hold it in such high regard. Interesting to see how divisive it was.
