  • An attempt at spearfishing saw terrible visibility on the beach side of the seaway wall, however, the inlet side saw a little better visibility. We had an amazing experience with a green sea turtle.

Exceptional entry. Perhaps Gold Coast's best divers...

      Perhaps you’re onto something here

Inlet side would be referring to the "seaway dive site" with 3 stairs? That's probably the most popular dive site on the GC? I've seen some recent comments warning about high tide heights and powerful currents at seaway, could you provide some advice for someone new to the seaway and keen to check out the area?

That’s correct. Yes it is most popular for its easy accessibility and drift diving. Both of these things are valid concerns regarding the seaway. Inexperienced snorkellers and open water divers can find navigating the seaway challenging but there are a few things you can note to make it easier. When you get to the “seaway dive site” for high tide (best time for vis), look out into the water and you’ll see a pole, this pole will have water gushing behind or in front to indicate which way the current is running. From there, use the current to your advantage. If the current is pulling from the ocean into the river channels, walk up to the eastern most stairs and drift down to the middle stairs or vice versa. Once familiar with the seaway you can try heading out across the pipe, using the pipe (when scuba diving) as a shield from the current. If you’re in line with pipe it actually blocks the current allowing you to swim with relative ease, enjoying the marine diversity down there. Hope this helps :)
