At my wedding my wife, me and our wedding party were introduced to our guests by an 8 piece amazing band playing this song. Absolute classic. Absolute best day of my life.
This is an absolutely brilliant mash-up medley, and it's so seamless that people don't even realize it's a mash-up. The rhythm (and the organ part) are an uptempo version of 'Time is Tight' by Booker T and the M.G's. The rhythm, even the baseline, fits well with an Otis Redding song called 'I Can't Turn You Loose.' So, if you mix the two songs together, and you speed up the tempo, you get this amazing medley, and the distinctive Blues Brothers opening. The organ ends up being good background music for an introduction, too.
It's technically not a mash-up. It is the Blues Brothers Band version of this song. 2 members were with Booker T & the MGs. This is how they opened up their live concerts
@@henryneese7678 it's why only the blues brothers version of this song exists - these kinds of medley's are common with rhythm and blues bands, especially of the era. Paul Schaffer had a LOT to do this with particular arrangement as well. It takes a lot of creativity to make these kinds of medleys, let alone make it so seamless. AND they did it in the era of 100% analogue production. Listen to Time is Tight and also I Can't Turn Your Loose - and you'll realize just how technically proficient AND musical the band had to be to come up with this - and they did it so well it has stood the test of time! :)
You're in good company. I never got caught, but when my tape deck hit this in the rotation, somehow or another my car jumped from 55 to 90 in the blink of an eye. I still don't know what was wrong with that car! [wink, wink] Same thing happens when Kenny Loggins Danger Zone comes on the radio. lol

Amen brother! Of course, 40 something years ago, who could possibly have imagined that by the year 2006, not only would blues be in the classical records department but the local public library would be the equivalent of an appendix. My, how times have changed!
