Elvis telling his fans that Jesus Christ is the King

  • I'm sure many Elvis fans have heard this story before. But I'm guessing not a lot have heard it from the man himself... Well here it is.
Elvis said this on more than one occasion. According to Tony Brown a former member of Voice in the documentary "He Touched Me - The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley" he stopped a concert in the middle of a song when a large banner was held up and told them "Jesus Christ is the King" well that story is from the same arena this concert is from, but Elvis's comment here is much different and he says this straight after finishing a wild version of Fever and not during a song as the story goes. So I'm guessing it was one of the other two concerts he made at South Bend or Tony's memory is a little bad, either way the point Elvis implies is the same. J.D Sumner also said Elvis did the same thing in Vegas at the conclusion of a concert when a woman gave him a small pillow with a crown on it, unfortunately he didn't give any indication to the date this occurred. The only audio available of the concert in this video is an audience recording (hence: the reason for the poor quality) but I'm sure you all can understand what's been said.

Elvis loved the Lord and I think this is especially lovely because he didn't really embarrass that young woman...he thanked her and acknowledged the sentiment while making it clear that he was just a man and not someone to be worshiped.

Elvis never set out to embarrass anyone. In fact, at times I think he was far too patient with people. But, that one of the things we love about him…his ‘humanity’ and his ‘humility’.

Amen, This is awesome. Elvis was polite to the lady but in front of thousands of his fans he said there is only one King. He wanted to let everyone know that he was a human being. A man who didn't want to be worshipped. Elvis said more than once that our Lord Jesus Christ is the only real King. I always say Elvis is the King of rock and roll but God is the King of the World.

  • @mk-ky2dl

Well this is the reason why is Elvis in different places and by that I mean above every singer and entertainer. He didn't call himself "I'm the King I'm the best" like someone else did and still do. That was given to him by the world and he didn't even accept it because he knew that there's only one King and that's GoD! Long live Elvis, you will never be forgotten ever!!!

When did he accept Jesus into his heart as his personal Lord and savior? I never heard that, and singing worship songs don't mean anything. It's all about a personal relationship and a change of lifestyle. I'm not saying that he never did, but I would certainly like to know if there is any evidence of him doing such a thing.

Elvis definitely had his priorities in order. Elvis was very polite to the fan, said thank you honey but there is only one King and that is Jesus Christ. I am just an entertainer. I believe that Elvis had his own special connection with God. Charlie Hodge and others said that Elvis never went any where without his Bible or a Bible, and that he read the Bible alot. This may exsplain why Elvis gave money and exspensive gifts to everyone around him and many strangers. In the Bible it talks about giving to those who have less and says to give with cheer. Everyone said that Elvis loved giveing money and gifts to others and it made him happy. Many people that Elvis gave to were total strangers.

Despite the drug problem and/or anything else,+the fact that he was a sinner--he was Redeemed, for he was Saved by Grace through Faith in Christ Jesus. This here was an honest statement of his faith (here, back in '74).Elvis was never afraid to testify to the Living God who saved him byJesus' death on the cross+His resurrection. You can get a bit of a hint that he was deeply spiritual... spent his life on a spiritual quest... by the fact that of the 700 or so songs he recorded, over 120 of them were gospel songs.
About the spiritual quest... I've seen a printed page with his writing on the bottom... he wrote... "God loves you. He loves you most when you sing."

I really hope that Elvis made it. I read Larry Geller's book "If I Can Dream" and it showed that Elvis' personal beliefs about Jesus differed from the Bible. In fact, it shows how "new age" Elvis was with..numerology, various occult books etc. Anyway, I hope Elvis did realize that Jesus is the only way to heaven before he died and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. I could see negative comments coming from people who haven't read Geller's book. Thankfully God is the judge.

They're not vain, conceited, or haughty like other enormously famous celebrities (of varying degrees of talent) who act too imporatant to be bothered with fans and bestow extraordinarily egotistical titles upon themselves, yet are no were near as talented, famous, or important as the good people.

@sgtBilko75 Hi!! The sign, said he was THE KING ( I can confirm this since a friend from Notre Dame who attended that concert told me about it), not the King of Rock and Roll. So, with that in mind, and since Elvis knew he as not "the King", as stated in the banner, he reacted the way he did. I wish the tape was longer, so that it can also be confirmed that Elvis had to say it twice, to remove the banner, or else.

Elvis’ manager, Col. Tom Parker, said in a press conference shortly
after his death: “Elvis didn’t die. The body did. We’re keeping up the
good spirits. We’re keeping Elvis alive. I talked to him this morning
and he told me to 'carry on.’” (Elvis did not die and he wanted out. -
Col. Tom Parker. 1977) After hearing so many stories about the death of
Elvis Presley, I have decided to tell the world the real story on the
facts concerning that day in August, 1977. Yes, that day, the 16th of
August. Is it a coincidence that a person born on that January 8, first
month, eighth day, would perish on the 8th month and the 16th day?
Probably if two (2) people were born on that day it makes more sense.
You see, numerology always played an important part of my life and still
does today. So many people have written or spoke about my death as a
hoax. It was not a hoax! I decided to reinvent myself in the form of my
brother (Jesse Garon) and yes, Elvis Presley did die that day. But after
much searching for the right people, I found several people from
different states who I consider my most loyal and trustworthy friends.
To some people this book will be just another scandalous piece of
fiction, but when you are done I think you will think otherwise. I
always felt my brother deserved to live and what better way to let him
live his life than to end mine. I was lonely, depressed, in bad health
and my numerology chart said that this was the time for it to come to
end. Anyone who studies numerology will understand, those who don't may
want to look into it. All of the facts (and there are many) even the
experts will say they are more than coincidences. I no longer give away
Cadillacs or expensive pieces of jewelry because I am nothing more than a
man who had a very famous brother. I am not a great literate (I never
wrote my own songs), but I am not illiterate either. The perfect day
    August 16, 1977, 1 + 9 + 7 + 7 = 24, my age backwards (42), the facts go
on and on. But my true reasons for the book are for my fans. My death
was not a hoax! To my fans, please forgive me, my brother deserved to
live, he was with me constantly (spiritually). My life would not be the
same had he lived at birth. This was my way of giving him life, and
corny as it sounds. The Colonel took this secret to his grave. He was a
loyal friend. But I will no longer stand by and have people like Gail
Brewer tell you stories that are pure fiction. This book written by a
true friend will help you realize why I did what I did. - The Truth
About Elvis Aron Presley In His Own Words. (2001). My fascination with
the idea of a hoax about death was when Jim Morrison died July 3rd,
1971. Although I saw no correlation (he died at age 27) I was astounded
that as famous as he was the body was just closed up and shipped out.
Now I don't know all the facts concerning his death. I thought it
awfully strange that no autopsy was performed (or so I thought) and just
forgotten about. There were a lot of rumors about his death. I noticed
he was born on the 8th day. Born in 1944 = 1-8 and died in 1971 = 1-8.
Remember my comeback in 1968? 1+9+6+8 = 24. Obviously, I was no longer
24, so I reversed the age to 42. The next time that number had any
    relevance was 1977 (1+9+7+7 = 24 when I would be 42. Numerology can and
does play an important part of my life and we knew that would have to be
the date. Most people if they know what to look for will find
significance in the forms of numbers in all of my movies! Example:
    gravestone in " Loving You" (year) 1878 = ? (1+8+7+8 = 24). You have to
look at the movies. My hero James Dean died at the age of 24, but I was
on top of the world then and wanted to live. - The Truth About Elvis
Aron Presley In His Own Words. (2001). I will start about 1974 when the
thought first came to me about faking my death. I have always been
fascinated with the occult and other spiritual things. When I first saw a
wax dummy of myself made by a Mr. Cooper I was fascinated with it. For
some time I had thought if it was possible? Could I pull this thing off?
I had asked Mr Cooper if he could make another wax dummy for me. He
said he could. I in turn said I wanted him to do it and keep it strictly
confidential. When I had mentioned it to a very few close friends (Joe
Esposito, Larry Geller) they did not think I was serious. I was tired of
being Elvis Presley, my health was deteriorating. I just couldn't keep
up. My finances were floundering because of my daddy's poor business
ventures. I was at my wit's end. As the years progressed I had my ups
and downs which are pretty well documented in other books. I also had
two detectives from Colorado who I trusted immensely. Originally the
date was 1976 according to my numerology charts but I chickened out. A
pact was made on the grounds of Graceland one night, hands placed over
hands that this secret would never be spoken of outside this room. I
picked four (4) of us initially and to this day all have kept the
secret. I also know when this book reaches the bookstores people (my
loyal friends) will be heartbroken. They took care of me and convinced
others that I was no longer alive. In reality Elvis Presley died that
day and my twin brother "Jesse" came to life, living in hiding but as a
normal human being. I skip around because I am writing stream of
consciousness. My own Daddy bless his soul never knew the truth. Little
Lisa was told months later and explained to her she would not see me
much. The Colonel took this secret to his grave. Many people believe me
to still be alive but I was told in the beginning there would be no
contact in order for this to work. I go thru a lot of ups and downs
since 1977 and have lived in many states but I insisted I needed to be
in a warm climate. My personal thoughts are that my fans will
understand. That is very important to me. I just could not face myself
any more after seeing myself in the mirror and that is where Larry
Geller came in. He asked if he could write a book, and I gave him my
blessing. "If I Can Dream" is the title and I like his book. He had
filled my head with spiritual thoughts and made me believe we could pull
this off. If I had stayed longer I think I would have been booed off
the stage. That is why I chose the date 8-16-77. Do you know how many
famous people passed away on that date? The great Robert Johnson died on
8-16 and he was born in 1935! Babe Ruth, and Bela Lugosi and many
others. I must say I was very nervous that day 8-16. But it had to be
done before I went on the road where I would not have been able to pull
it off. Did you know there are secret compartments in Graceland that
very few people know about! A few like Vester would joke about my being
alive but no one took him serious. Many of my friends would ask if I
were still alive and they have their doubts but as it was I might have
died broke and just a shell of myself. I was given an injection that
looked like I was dead but the people closest to me knew better. Believe
me I had my doubts that this could be pulled off. But it did and I
became Jesse, just a poor white southern boy who didn't sing a lick of
anything. I feel bad my Daddy wasn't allowed to know but it just
couldn't be done. I better go now and collect my thoughts to tell you
the rest next time. - The Truth About Elvis Aron Presley In His Own

I,agree in part with your response. One cannot live in sin, deny God,and then just join The Band wagon,at the last moment, like one would join a diet program.Yes,we as Christians may not drink, drug, and live like The Devil. However, all have sinned, and fallen short of The Glory Of God.Salvation once genuinely obtained does not get revoked, because of sin. Peter denied Jesus, and still remained his Rock. Elvis if he truly accepted our lord will enter Heaven, after The Judgement Seat Of Christ.

Elvis knew that our Lord JESUS CHRIST died for ALL of us on
that cross on Calvary! Truly the Son of GOD, he paid the ultimate price
for everyone of us and surely deserves to be called LORD!
If not-then pay the consequences yourself.

Ellis in his own words..yes he loves Jesus..I think he is in heaven..no doubt..isn't there a verse if a man confesses with his own mouth that Jesus is lord..he will be saved..

@MrJohnMark21 Most famous people die young because they either work too bloody hard (which typically results in strokes, bad diets, drugs, etc) or from pure misfortune (car crash, assassination, etc).
    King Tut: age 18
    Alexander the Great: 32
    Mozart: 35
Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Vallens: all under 25
In a way, it's a wonder Elvis did live for as long as he did though, considering the times... granted, 42 is still damn young...

I am certain, God forgave him for all the human frailities and errors for his openly declared, on-going, unshakable trust in Him. All my respect for the Man and tgratitude for the Artist!

knew I SHOULDN'T have read these comments & while most of them are factual with the undertones of belief in GOD and HIS SON JESUS I can't leave here without saying to "Ipirian32" there will come a day soon when the thoughts you put into words here will surely haunt you & YOU WILL CRY OUT FOR FORGIVENESS. Elvis was a good Christian man; he never forgot from where he came or the struggles his parents had to deal with. He loved GOD & with every song he gave thanks thru his music but he was not King

I didn't say anything about "rejecting" God. I was just commenting on people's thinking on hell. And I do think a belief is a choice. You choose what you will believe based on what you see, study, live, etc. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend anybody.

Elvis was only a human being who had a beautiful voice and was the greatest entertainer and yes he was actually a Christian since birth if you know anything of his life. I personally may have my own beliefs on the subject but because you do not believe something does not mean Elvis Presley didn't.

@highnote606 You mentioned that" it is naive to believe you can live a life full of sin and be saved at the end" It may be naive to believe this, but God doesn't think so, as is evidenced by the thief on the cross who not only lived a life full of sin, but was being crucified for doing so! And yet this man, at the last moment turns to Jesus, asks for forgiveness, and GETS IT. We underestimate the love of God.

@SunflowerContest I've done my research and it is the show he did on the 30th of Sep 74 and the only place this is available is on the "Burning Bright In Southbend" CD. The "Night Fever in Vegas" CD is the midnight show from the 30th of"August" not September. I have the 1st of Oct show from the Dragonheart CD. Source: elvisconcerts (dot) com

But not can we live in the past or can we? Alpha and Omega, the start and the end, in a never-ending circle, the impossible made possible, all through God... Yes, God is the only way. He remains the same, yet ever changing. God...

@pulmon66 He didn't say it twice. He just went straight into his routine band introductions. I deliberately left a few seconds on at the end so viewers could know that. Listen again to the end of the video he says "I would like to introduce you to the members of my group ...."

What actually happened is that the clip here has Presley asking another person to show him the sign, then the woman who kept the other sign after Elvis asked her tyo remove it, hollors at him, like saying why I am being left out? And that's when he says what he says...
