Earlier in that scene at the soda fountain the lines "... you like all the boys" to which future town slut Violet Bick replies " whats wrong with that ?" Always kills me.
@@ParentsNightIn I just read your comment. Same. I'm due to start work in 20 minutes, and god now I have moist eyes and want to watch that movie again. It is truly a classic.
I absolutely love the ending to this movie, just seeing everyone come to support their best friend at his worst time and see everyone come together truly shows to true meaning of Christmas. Truly a classic in every way.
Exactly. I’m hoping he gets something great that launches his career into the stratosphere. I believe everyone should follow their dreams. Like I want to be able to write and draw my own comics, books and mangas. I’m trying to make it happen and I believe anyone can make their dreams come true.

Yeah, after exploiting George's situation, Clarence gets his wings. George is left penniless and Mr. Potter gets away with stealing thousands. Everyone else has a better life than George because they exploit and abuse him. Real "feel good" movie.

2:45 around this point in the movie, when he goes Hulk on that table, I didn't notice for the longest time, but it appears to be a drafting table, with blueprints and model skyscrapers and such. It's a tiny thing, and a blink and you miss it moment, but it is a perfect show-don't-tell about how he still has those aspirations to do other, "better" things, and the prospect of his arrest had just obliterated his entire future. Those dreams were gone forever, and it takes a physical form in trashing those model buildings. And the best part is, they don't make a thing of it. He doesn't go all Christopher Nolan and have him explicitly state "I dreamed of being a world class architect and it's gone now". They don't reference the table at all before or since. It's just there. It's part of his world. Like the time the train whistle blows and his head snaps up; more people leaving town and he's still stuck there. Or juxtaposing Sam's fancy pants car with his junker where the door won't close unless you kick it. Capra was amazing at his craft.

This is my favorite movie of all time! I can relate to this movie on many levels. However, the most important reason why I love this movie is that for years I watched this with my Mom every Christmas Eve until she passed away on Christmas Eve 1985. Year later I wrote to Jimmy Stewart telling how much the movie means to me and will forever remind me of my Mom. He wrote me back a nice letter that I cherish to this day. I'd love it if you reviewed random old movies!
Wow, what a story. That was a very nice of Jimmy Stewart to do that. Because of my mom, I was also shown this movie when I was a child. It's a timeless classic that never gets old and I still always try to watch it with her around this time of year.

It’s important to have your children watch it with you. They need to see dialog and conversations; relationships with your community; pain and anxiety; the measure of what you have built in life. They need to experience a movie that doesn’t have flashy graphics and animation. My young kids loved it!
As someone who now sees this as my favorite movie, its really hard to convince a child like me to actually sit and watch it. I love this movie to death and I think its probably one of the best (if not THE best) movies ever made. If your kids refuse to watch it, it may be best not to force them, but sometime down the line you can just have it on the TV when they're sitting around you, and just let it play out in front of them. I really doubt they'll be able to walk away after the scene with the druggist.

I actually watched it all the way through for the first time this year. I was surprised by how relevant it remains to this day. The part where he talked about how people shouldn't have to wait until their kids are grown and gone, and they've worked themselves to the bone before they can have a couple of decent rooms and a bath - so touching.

WOW Chris! I just finished watching this movie for the FIRST TIME and I saw your review so I knew I had to click! Another thing I LOVED about this movie was the FACT they didn't even CARE about the aftermath of what happened to the villain (potter) and IT DIDNT MATTER. Something you don't really see much with movies nowadays because viewers seem to want some kind of revenge? and villains suffering.. whereas back in the day they focused on WHAT MATTERED!! 😃
Christina Silver believe it or not, Hollywood almost didn't allow Capra to do it that way. They had a set "code" which dictated that villains would be brought to justice or pay for their wrongdoing in some way, but somehow Capra was able to make the movie the better way!
The sarcastic humor in this film is also very refreshing and holds up so well. Also, the telephone scene is one of the most romantically moving moments in film history.
Hearing him say he will one day pursue his career as a director and leave film criticism behind was bittersweet for me. I am so incredibly happy that Chris is on his way to achieve his number one goal, but I am also really upset because I have been watching his reviews for years now, and I always look at his reviews first. He is the one film critic that inspired me to become a film critic. Hope much success comes your way, Chris!
I love watching this movie with my mom every year. She always cries at the same part: “Heehaw and Merry Christmas, Sam Wainwright”. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Thank you for your wonderful videos and reviews. See you in 2019!
Hey Chris, if next year you want to review movies you want and do it in a slightly different way then go for it! Like you were talking about how you feel happy with whatyou have in life and achieving goals, sometimes you gotta do what you want even if it doesnt please others. We will still be here to watch every review. Merry christmas man!
"No man is a failure who has friends" I watched this movie for the first time just after Thanksgiving and I'am at that age where you don't want to watch all those "classic" christmas movies, but I loved this movie. The last maybe twenty minutes might be one of the greatest bits of a movie ever. It really did almost make me cry. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Great review. When I watched the film for the first time, I was an adult as well and man was I so beyond moved and blown away. I have had more George Bailey moments in my life than I care to admit, so like you as well as many others in the world, this film really resonated with me. Merry Christmas!
This is my favorite Christmas movie. My mom made me watch it back when I was around 8 or 9 and as I get older I appreciate it more and gain a better perspective from it. Great movie
"Buffalo Gals wont ya come out tonight, come out tonight, come out tonight. Buffalo gals wont ya come out tonight, dance for the light of the moon." XD Anyone else here remember them singing this song together? What a great scene from this movie... Love it
Chris, just think about how many lives you affect directly every day, how many people listen to you and like you without even knowing you. Could any director achieve that in the movie business?.. i think you can be a fantastic director, but i think it is even more important to be a good person, and that you obviously are. Merry Christmas!
You’ve tapped into what makes this film so important to me. I watch it every year, multiple times between Thanksgiving and Christmas....it’s a veritable treasure chest of drama, comedy, a bit of action...and 100% heart. It has fantastic characters, character arcs, development, and each character is fully fleshed out and developed to the point that you truly do care for each person. It’s warm and fuzzy and melodramatic, yes...but who cares? The acting is phenomenal, the sets are impeccable, and it’s so believable. Even the kid who plays a young George Bailey is charming and a great little actor. It’s one of those perfect films.
It's lovely to see you being so open and honest Chris. I live in Tonbridge in south-eastern Britain and always love to check in. I hope your dreams come true man, you deserve it
I’ve been following your channel since 2013. Watching you grow into a household name has been amazing and you deserve a directing gig so bad. I’d love for you to make a film like Only God Forgives.
I don't understand why this is a "Christmas" classic. The movie is about George Bailey helping others, not Christmas. It's just a coincidence that the climax of the film happens on Christmas, but even then Christmas isn't focused on. By the way, my favorite movie of all time.
I think that what you are doing now is exactly the kind of thing that will help you become the sort of director who would be very much in tune with what does and does not work with an audience. As someone who wishes to write more, I do a lot of reading, from classic to contemporary literature, and films, like literature, prove to be so intertextual. Although it may not necessarily be a prerequisite to watch, review or read so extensively, it sure helps to immerse oneself to relate and then create in the mediums one in pursuing.
I didn’t see this movie until I was 15 and I was absolutely blown away. Instantly became one of my favorite films; its just such an uplifting and hopeful look at the human condition and the simple happinesses of everyone’s life.
I love this series! I just discovered your channel through your Little Women review the other day and have been hooked ever since. I love how they’re succinct so the videos aren’t too long. And I *really* love how you have this series. I’ve watched a lot of classics but haven’t seen It’s a Wonderful Life and this really made me want to! I know you said it was a 2018 thing but I hope you continued something similar into 2019.
You are a good movie reviewer. Keep working at being a great director. We all don't do the things we really want to do. I'm a cook for a restaurant yet I want to own my own food truck or restaurant. God is good.
The best thing about your channel is watching your old videos and seeing you develop and perfect your channel into what it is now. I think you'd make a great full-time movie director. You clearly know what you're talking about and I know that you would put a lot of care and passion into your films. Don't stop 'till you reach the top!
My favorite movie of all time, that I watch several times a year. I don't actually feel it's a Christmas movie, per se, but more of an "Everyman in crisis, finding his own value" flick. Would love to have you review our movie, and perhaps we can work together on some great filmmaking!
Just so you know, we’re all grateful for what you do and for the art you provide to the world. Even if I don’t know or care for the movie that you may review, I still watch every video you put out. I’m a huge fan, please keep doing what you’re doing.
Dude, you don't need an excuse to post a review! I'm not very familiar with the Nostalgia Critic's channel, but I believe the idea behind the channel was reviewing whatever and whenever he wanted. I mean, you're not gonna stop guiding us through current premieres, so that's totally fine. And even if you were, this is your channel and it's up to you what to do with it. That said, I don't want you to lose most of the subscribers and the money you get from the channel by introducing any drastic changes:)
This is one of my favorite movies not just one of my favorite Christmas movies! Thank you for reviewing this. My husband had never seen this film and I finally after years convinced him to sit down to watch it with me by saying to him "If you watch the first 15 mins and don't want to continue you don't have to watch it" he was never interesting in old movies especially black and white films. He watched this movie and was riveted. I always had told him there were 2 old movies I insist he try to watch, It's a Wonderful Life and 12 Angry Men. He watched and loved both of them.
When I was a little kid, It's a Wonderful Life was on television constantly in December. I mean, sometimes it'd be playing on three or four channels at the same time.
Such a timeless Christmas classic! I hope this film never gets remade. And thank you, Chris, for mentioning Christmas with the Joker. I almost forgot about that episode. I need to watch it again tonight. Have a very Merry Christmas!
Hey Chris, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND SAM! Loved your reviews for years now and am confident you will attain your dream of directing movies full time. That will be hard for us, we will miss these reviews. But knowing you are out there doing your thing you love most in life will bring smiles to all our faces! BTW, review "The Ox-Bow Incident" with Jimmy Stewart. Its a western with social commentary. See ya on the flip side!
This is pretty much the only Christmas movie I grew up watching regularly.. And after watching some of the other "classic" Christmas movies recently that I've never seen before, they're trash compared to this Jimmy Stewart masterpiece.
Thanks for this thoughtful review. You’ve sold me on finally trying to watch this movie, a film I’ve ignored because the ending has been give away through other media so often. I also appreciate your bravery when it comes to being a little vulnerable on camera. Please never underestimate the power a good video has to pick up someone when they’re feeling blue, because your work helps me out all the time. May 2019 be the year your movie dreams come true, and in the meantime know that you’re awesome. Happy Holidays.
Is the main message or moral of the film really appreciating what you've done/are doing with your life and not thinking of it as a failure merely because of what you have not yet accomplished? (which is a great message to take from the film and a good summation). But I might take it a step further and ask: how about the message (one that rings out to me the loudest every time I watch this movie) and that is.. That every one of us makes a bigger impact (good and bad) on those around us, more than we know, that if we had never lived, the lives of so many others would be so drastically different and even a certain portion of the world would be different (and in George Bailey's case --- a "void" left in the lives of so many because he was such a profoundly-good man). So the lesson or moral: Be mindful of what you do -- good or bad -- because you make a bigger impact in this world than you'll ever know.
I respect you being open. I am so happy this movie has spoken to you in that way. I’m glad you want to be a full time Director. Thank you for being open with us. I much appreciate it!

Christina Silver believe it or not, Hollywood almost didn't allow Capra to do it that way. They had a set "code" which dictated that villains would be brought to justice or pay for their wrongdoing in some way, but somehow Capra was able to make the movie the better way!
It is also kind of a civics lesson on good capitalism verse bad capitalism.
My all time favorite movie
@tintinesk5 creepy
Potter is/was like Trump : a very cynical piece of shit .
Jimmy Stewart is THE best actor of all time.
The sarcastic humor in this film is also very refreshing and holds up so well. Also, the telephone scene is one of the most romantically moving moments in film history.
_This film is quintessentially the epitome of what a Christmas movie should you feel like._
Yes!!💯💖🙂
Hearing him say he will one day pursue his career as a director and leave film criticism behind was bittersweet for me. I am so incredibly happy that Chris is on his way to achieve his number one goal, but I am also really upset because I have been watching his reviews for years now, and I always look at his reviews first. He is the one film critic that inspired me to become a film critic. Hope much success comes your way, Chris!
It's a wonderful life is a wonderful film!
Thank you for reviewing this movie!
Great review. When I watched the film for the first time, I was an adult as well and man was I so beyond moved and blown away. I have had more George Bailey moments in my life than I care to admit, so like you as well as many others in the world, this film really resonated with me. Merry Christmas!
Now it makes sense why he didn't watch any Christmas movies as a kid
I recently learned that the wife of George’s brother was born in my home town of Ann Arbor Michigan
Her name was Virginia Patton. She was one pretty lady.
Hi scoot
I’m from Gaylord Michigan
Oh wow, how convenient, I JUST watched it last night, showing it to my brother and cousin for their first time. Such a classic.
This is my favorite Christmas movie. My mom made me watch it back when I was around 8 or 9 and as I get older I appreciate it more and gain a better perspective from it. Great movie
And some people say Elf is the best Christmas movie🙄
"Elf" is barely tolerable. I don't understand why so many revere it so much. One of Will Ferrell's least comical roles imo.
Moe Flanders you're not Santa😠
Right we all know that it's Die Hard lol
Moe Flanders I love elf but it’s nowhere near the best. There are many films before it on the list.
Personally i like Christmas Vacation.
Can't wait for the Top 10 Best/Worst Movies of 2018.
Vishwa Krishnan jajajaja where is itttt
Same! I’ve been refreshing my feed for the past few days waiting for it
The year is ending and I'm getting nervous...
El_Bartto Yeah he better make them.
About that ..
"Buffalo Gals wont ya come out tonight, come out tonight, come out tonight. Buffalo gals wont ya come out tonight, dance for the light of the moon." XD Anyone else here remember them singing this song together? What a great scene from this movie... Love it
this was the last A+, remember it.
No, that would be The Others, as of this writing.
Still waiting for the haunting of hill house review.
Same here...
This and Die Hard are the best Christmas movies ever
On Her Majesty's Secret Service honorable mention along with Eyes Wide Shut
I completely forgot Eyes Wide Shut was set at Christmas lol
Die hard isn't a Christmas movie though
@@diegom6053 James settled this on his channel. It's a "Christmas Action Movie" tm. Like Lethal Weapon.
if only we could splice the movies together ....
Chris, you’re a legend. I can’t wait to see what you put out in 2019!
Can you please review A Christmas Carol (1951) starring Alastair Sim? It's my favourite Christmas film!!
Agreed!
"18?! Why, it was only last year you were 17!"
I say this every time a friend or family member has a birthday lol
Can’t wait for best/worst movies of 2018
Well sadly he dosent want to do the worst of the year but im sure you know that already
I haven't watched this movie in years
haven't watched it ever and probably never will
it should be on TV tomorrow sometime
I first heard of this movie when I saw Gremlins.
Same
A few weeks ago I *finally* got around and watched this movie because of how much of a classic movie it is. Glad I saw it now. Great movie.
Chris In 2019: “next year I want to do something that’s not so locked down”
2020: “no lockdown you say...?”
Chris!! Please make a review of Alfonso Cuaron's Roma 🙏
And the ballad of buster scruggs by the coen brothers
No. FELLINI'S Roma.
When I was a little kid, It's a Wonderful Life was on television constantly in December. I mean, sometimes it'd be playing on three or four channels at the same time.
As a kid from the 90's. I can easily say I loved this movie and what it meant. A life lesson for me. A Must watch!
Such a timeless Christmas classic! I hope this film never gets remade. And thank you, Chris, for mentioning Christmas with the Joker. I almost forgot about that episode. I need to watch it again tonight. Have a very Merry Christmas!
I love this movie. It is such a lovely movie, with an amazing massage. Being happy, and appreciating the good things we already have in our lives.

I much appreciate it!
if you liked this movie you should try watching The Bishop's Wife , great Christmas film with a wonderful message
sounds grand with random reviews. You have enough viewers that no matter what you choose to review you have a guaranteed audience. That's a powerful thing. Never underestimate the many hours you've filled for your viewers who despite the myriad cirumstances of our lives find time for a little Chris Stuckmann who loves films and loves to talk about them. Happy new year hope it's good one.
Dang, no A+ reviews from any movies made in 2018. Makes sense though, compared to last year’s masterpieces
Devon Solwold If I am not wrong he gave Annihilation a A+
@@nox5870 sorry ur wrong
It's a shame your reviews on classic movies pre 80s have very few views. Don't let that deter you from making more. These movies matter, your reviews are spot on. Thanks Chris.
I don't know what I'll listen to when you'll gone.
Watched this in my home town with a large group of friends and family at the small theatre. We were right up on hlthe front row. Truely the most life affirming experiences one can wish for. Thank you for revising this movie, I hope more people get to see it because of this. Merry Christmas!
Hey Chris you should watch Roma from Alfonso Cuaron and Cold War....Hollywood is not the only film community, hope you know that. Film is all over the world and I always wonder why the hell don´t you review other movies different from the USA. Its kind of weird. Anyways watch those two...specially the first one and review it!
He reviews anime
He is a hater of Mexican culture :) he never gonna review ROMA or any Mexican movie ever :)
@@DanielPerez-jz8jk does CoCo count?
Thats stupid. AND why would he hate México?
MAYBE WE WOULD KNOW IF HE FUCKING ANSWERS THE COMMENTS FANS THAT WATCH HIS VIDEOS PUT!!!!
My FAVORITE Christmas movie of all time! Thanks for reviewing this, Chris!
