    Dude, you're the man. Thank you for this set of videos. I was gonna pay to get my guitar done up and I watched this series and I believe I can do it myself now. Can't make it worse than it is lol

      Glad you liked them! You can't do much damage with basic setup - the only thing is to only turn the truss rod a quarter turn at a time. They're hard to break, but some people go nuts. Quarter turn is usually all it takes.

    Great video!!! You cover a lot of things I didn't realize would help me, like that fretted straight edge for example. Anoth4r must-see for any guitarist (especially the innovative 'non-rich' variety lol). Thoroughly enjoyed it, and the cop at the beginning...he rules!

      Wow - thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I have three more parts to it, dealing with cleaning the fretboard and parts, putting the new strings on (different ways) and adjusting the action and intonation. Basically trying to create a video manual for the Epiphone Les Paul. Thank you for the kind words - they are very much appreciated!

    Thanks for letting me know that the truss rod was inside the stock. Too bad I already took off the whole neck first after watching someone else's video. lol

    You can get hung up with measurements, l adjust according to my playing style, works everytime.

      I think the reason measurements are good is that they're objective - One day, a guitar's action can feel a little high to me, and another day it might feel OK. Measurements can tell you whether something actually changed or not. It's also a good idea if you're working on other people's guitars when you say "I lowered your action" and they say "It doesn't feel any different."

    What size Allen key are you using? I just got a Epiphone 1959 Les Paul and it didn't come with a key. Everything online says Epiphone uses a 4 mm key but I'm trying one and it doesn't fit in there?

      I have a Wera toolkit and the Allen key that works for me is a 5/32. It's not super snug, but it does work.

    Can u do a video on high e string alignment.. 👍👍

    • @joelgraham3
      @joelgraham3 Год назад

      loosen the neck and push to the right which will create space for that 1st string e string which keeps slipping off guitar - keep the pressure on and you tighten neck fast or even fit a shim in if there is enough room - it can be done by yourself - I did it on a squire tele - but a 2nd person would be helpful

    If its not setup out of the box in 2022 its a garbage guitar most places have 55 point inspections this isnt the 1970s

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  Год назад +2

      By most places, you mean Sweetwater. Guitar Center and Sam Ash are the biggest physical stores in the US and they don't do a 5 point inspection, let alone a 55 point inspection. Also, things like intonation can be impacted by shipping, so the guitar you order from Sweetwater might need a truss rod adjustment by the time you get it. Also, things like action and intonation may need tweaking as time goes by. And not every setup is going to be ideal for every player.

      @budgetguitaristcom especially in 2nd hand guitars where previous owners tried and failed to set up the guitar. This was how I learned to correctly setup my used instruments after another failed. Good points here. I'm binge watching your entire series today 😜
