Dr.Parenti is one of us . Michael is not one of our leaders, he does not want that , he is one of our great spokespersons . He came from a poor working class background . Once someone asked him if he was a self made man because he came from working class Italian Harlem and graduated with a PhD in political science from Yale, makes money on his books and so on . Parenti said no , without the workers struggles going back a century , and the people pushing FDR to make a new deal , etc , I would have never had access to public libraries in my youth and teenage years, received college grants and stipends from the public via government programs . I thank those who have fought for these things before me for who I am .
That is what a leader is. Parenti participated in elections too, if I remember correctly he got more votes than a certain Bernard Sanders at some point. 😁
Parenti's a godsend. Hopefully this doesn't come off as self-aggrandizing but I've read at least 10 of his books since the early 1990s and all are adroit, lively reads, and most importantly they're incredible exposes of Washington empire and the rapaciousness of capitalism.

When I listen to Michael Parenti I hear many things that I intuitively knew but didn’t have evidence to support. He says the things that I was thinking about myself, but couldn’t find the words to express my thoughts. It really feels that he speaks for me, that he is my voice.

But the empire or territories he conquered immediately fell apart after he died. With the usual chaos that proceeds, attends, and follows. He had done a lot of conquering but not a lot of stabilizing. Anyways, random tidbit.
Here's an intelligent question that I really have been pondering, It's a two part question 1.) if a company brings a government to the WTO for "infringing on their market opportunity" What happens if the country does not want to compensate the company whose profits are hurt? Or worse yet what happens if they do not honor their agreement to compensate the business? 2.) Is this what Socialist/Communist countries try to do and are subsequently given economic sanctions placed on them? IS that the threat of force that keeps countries in line to honor WTO agreements when businesses win cases over governments? The threat of economic sanctions?
and marxists and socialists believe that in order to solve this problem, we must create a revolution, and a cultural revolution to rid society of these ideas of militarism as well as a physical overthrow of the system.

As always, a great talk by Michael Parenti. However, I don't know what to make of Professor Petras' comments during the Q&A. While I'm against the abuses of the current Israeli government and supportive of Palestinian human rights, I can't help but to find his comments a bit conspiratorial. I'm not saying that he is antisemitic, but his comments felt somewhat farfetched. Even Professor Parenti seemed to be caught somewhat off guard. He hastily ended that very complicated and delicate topic after responding to Petras. Feeling a little conflicted here. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about this topic could elaborate on the matter.
