Hi, I am a mother in Florida. I just received a letter because at the beginning of the year my son should have been in bricks and mortar to learn. My husband threw a fit and he said no he's staying home I don't want anything happening to him. So we ended up taking the Safeway and staying home. We contracted covid-19 anyways. Because my husband was deemed an essential worker. My son missed a ton of school at the beginning because I went into a deep depression. So now I'm receiving a letter from the school stating that I need to plead my case to the vice principal, principal and a social worker. From there they will decide on the consequences. I don't feel as if consequences should be given due to the situation at hand! Parents are losing their shit because they don't know what to do! Nobody knows what to do in this situation. So I don't think that punishing people is very ethical! In fact I'm pissed. I'm finally getting it together and my son is going to school. Everyday life has resumed. It is absolutely ridiculous to me that the school will go to great lengths to cover their ass and put blame on parents because the student isn't progressing! Well I know my son isn't the only student in this country who hadn't progressed to the next grade! My son needs to repeat the 4th grade! Because he wasn't taught anything the first semester of school. So what am I supposed to do about this? My meeting is Thursday at 8:10 a.m. by phone.

Your not the only one for sure. I've been stressing my self more than I should because of these letters. My son has been tardy acouple times by acouple minutes. I work nights so I come home late to house work screaming kids and sometimes even more home work that hasn't been done. So yes sometimes we wake up late. But not enough for a letter to be sent. Its ridiculous. On one occasion I called the school to let them know we had no power. They marked it unexcused. I would be ok if my son had to redo 2nd grade. Don't feel bad. We're all going through so much. The way I'm looking at it is it will be resolved and I'm just thankful we're still here healthy and pushing forward. I hope it went well.

I got one in the mail a couple of months ago threatening to take me to court I was a virtual student and I was signing in every day and they were counting me absent pretty much every day and all my credits were stripped I got them back though. But the fact Is that they are making me go to Saturday school to "recover my absences" it's a bunch of bullshit that I have to fix someone else's mistake

I remember when the school told my daughter, "Don't worry about your child getting behind in school, just make sure they log in." Well, that didn't turn out to be true. Now, my daughter and granddaughter have to deal with Truancy Court. They have threatened my daughter with jail time. Her daughter has mental health issues and is so anxiety ridden about school now that she doesn't want to do anything! So what does the school do? Assign her to Community Service as Punishment for not bringing her grades up. She's under doctor's care, so why the school won't listen, I don't know.

Something I don't get is that I actually got 5 minutes late to orchestra when virtual classes were a thing. And always didn't go to speech therapy. And my dad never got a call from the school. Now that I'm in freshman and I get sick and the school still says it's an absent unexcused and apparently my dad is saying he will go to jail if I keep being late to class.
that doesnt sound true, im pretty sure they would lock you up, they lock the parents up if kid is under a certain age but idk what age

I remember all that. It happened to me with my oldest daughter. She was forced into virtual learning. She wasn't provided anything to do the work other than books but I had to provide the laptop. THey called CPS on me and threatened me with jail. She was logging in but wasn't submitting the work, so they called her absent. I would check to see if the assignments were submitted in which they were but she wasn't getting the assignments uploaded correctly. Rutherford County Schools was terrible... I had ZERO issues when we moved in to Davidson County.

My daughter had 13 unexcused absences 2 years ago and I'm being taken to court for that now they want to give me 90 days in jail 3 years probation I have no prior offenses for anything not even traffic violations she was never truant before that and never after that she didn't turn in notes I have medical documentation from the doctors and medical records where she had for some of the absences pneumonia flu a and then flu type b. I live in a small town and the county attorney is married to my daughter's old teacher from that school year. I have already been to court around 10 times in the last year because they will not set a jury trial date they keep offering me the stupidest plea bargains and if I take that then I will have the same charge as if I had sex with a minor and the same charge as if I did drugs with a child. So I'll take my chances on a jury trial if they ever set the date

I just got an email from my attorney and the prosecuting attorney emailed her today and said that he still wants to set another court date for April but he actually said he may dismiss it but just not tomorrow so oh my God I'm praying so hard.
@@jaydenmcdaniel3435 it went lol have my 10th pretrial conference scheduled for April 14th. I have been to court about 14 times in the last year and three months. I've asked for a jury trial but they won't set the date.
@@jaydenmcdaniel3435 no she was in fifth grade there was no skipping out of 13 days eight were covered for her own medical with doctors records. On three separate occasions she had pneumonia and then she got the flu type a and then within three weeks she got the flu type b. the other five days were a family emergency and her dad was in a very bad accident and he had a 85% chance of death a 90% chance of being a quadriplegic he broke his neck in three spots and had to have emergency surgery and the doctor said to get up there and spend as much time as we could with him before he went into surgery because there was a very good chance he was not going to live through it. I have a million dollars worth of medical bills as proof for just three weeks of the hospital stay he had two surgeries in three weeks. Every bit of it there is medical documentation for the absences.
@@jaydenmcdaniel3435 my attorney said that it is a personal vendetta.the prosecuting attorneys wife was my daughter's teacher at the time and my daughter had to miss one day of the State testing where they get the scores for federal funding money and the principal called me and said that she was going to make sure I paid one way or the other she didn't care what was going on in the family they wanted my child there so they can get a true measure and get the money that the school deserved because they were top rated School in my state. So basically the county attorney is going after me as a favor to the principal. My daughter has a compromised immune system and every year she gets ill a lot there is medical documentation all the way back to preschool. My attorney is the one that told me through the rumor mill it got back to her office that he was going after me as a favor for his wife. I live in a very small town. and they didn't follow their own protocol when it comes to truancy I never received anything from the truancy officer the truancy officer is never showed up to court they have a program before they ever even go to court where you meet with the truancy officer to avoid all this they didn't follow their own protocol. and everything is well documented on my end they even counted her absent a day of school that she was not and I have proof she was there because a friend had to take her and I have text messages from 2 years ago. my attorney said that this is not the normal punishment for truancy first offense and he's going after me like this is my third or fourth offense. He is willing to waste taxpayer money around $30,000 a day for a jury trial. Prosecuting attorney will not go forward with jury trial date. Since my daughter has been on homeschool she has missed half a day of school with the doctor's note for the whole year from August to now. I work 50 hours a week and this is costing me a lot of money to miss work to go to court just to have another court date set for a pretrial conference. When this is all said and done since it was so dirty I am writing a letter to the newspaper and possibly going to the news to let them know that this man who's an elected official is willing to waste $30,000 a day of taxpayer money for a jury trial for something I'm innocent with all the proof. The type of punishment he's offering me is usually what they give felony offenders who have had multiple felonies with drugs or something of that nature

I guess if as an adult if you want to let your child fail that is your right. If you can not handle the struggles or hardships of starting a family then don't have kids and bring people into this world you can not raise or make sacrifices for. If you have any sense you can enroll your kid into a charter school, private school or Home schooling. Yet most of you don't really take the time to get that involved. You just cry about everything and thats what your kids learn. I see kids with backpacks bigger then them and they are walking to school. I see kids with very little showing up for school. Its parents that just complain that make this matter a problem. We don't want to go to court but when your kids is missing all kids of sick days without a documented medical condition or the kid is just not coming to school and your not calling the school. We will take a look to see what are the hardships or obstacles so we can offer support. Try building a circle of support or go to sleep early so you can get up and take your kid to school. Get your kids to bed so they can wake up and make a routine. I was a single parent and had 3 kids that went to school. Really some of you parents are to soft or just plain suck. You know it's true. I have been to every type of home and environment and well I see the kids doing what they were shown or taught. Some parent say to me, they are grown and should know how to get to school. I then look at the attendance since kindergarten and I can see all kinds of days missed and now it Junior High or High School and the kids attendance is horrible.
If you want your kid to fail then it's your choice don't blame the system for trying to find a way to get it in your head that school is better then the streets or you garage. To end poverty we need to be in school. Heck I see lots of kids struggling with emotional or learning disabilities and the parents are not doing anything about it because when a kid is not in school we can not help when the parent wont get involved the kid suffers.
This little boy soon to be a man already shows signs of concern, covering his ears and his parents more concerned about making money. Having a kid is cute but raising one is a job.
