I hope Keys can capitalize on her newfound confidence and maturity with this win and win another Slam this year. Given the strength of her serve and forehand she should be a real contender for Wimby and/or USO. At the very least I hope she stays healthy and remains in the top 20 so she can play in the WTA Finals, now that we've seen how she can trouble the top players it would bring a lot of spice to that event! It would also be nice to see Sabalenka go deep or even win Wimby considering she was out with injury last year.
Iga has almost 5k points to defend before RG, almost perfect 2024 pre-RG, Sabalenka has maybe 1500pts, the only way she loses n. 1 before RG is if she does literally nothing the next 3 months because to retain n. 1 depending on herself doing basics.
Clay court season is incoming, and that's when the Spanish Tasmanian Devil starts his domination. And, since he was hurt for part of it last year, he can quickly gain points.
I called for a Zverev win at RG this yr.I'm sticking to that. When Zverev's at his physical peak, he's a force to be reckoned with on clay. He's been very unlucky at Roland Garros in the past.
He doesnt dominate Alcaraz on HC . Did you forget he lost all matches vs Alcaraz last year ? two on HC and one on clay . For sure he dominates everybody else
Iga defends almost 7000 points combined in Doha/Dubai/IW/Madrid/Rome/RG. She can only gain in Dubai (SF last year) and Miami (R3, cut off from her points due to not playing 6 WTA 500 tournaments in 2024) After Roland Garros Iga will have whole 2nd half for gaining points, while Aryna will start defending 5000+ points, with Gauff defending more than 2000 in Beijing/Finals. So it's possible for Iga to fall to #3-4 and then come back to #2 or #1 in 2nd half of 2025. Depends on her results in Doha/IW/Madrid/Rome/RG where she defends titles.
Great summary, and the summer is when Iga is usually tired and struggles. The only way she can regain the #1 spot if if she somehow has incredible form between Wimbledon and the US Open. I'm not sure it can happen.
The race to the finals doesn’t matter for sinner no? Given he won a slam in 2025, he automatically qualifies to play in the atp finales in Turin this year
Only in the WTA. In the ATP you need to stay in the top 8 no matter what. So Sinner was the first to qualify last year when he reached a certain number of points that made it impossible for him to not qualify even if he peaced out for the rest of the season.
@ pretty sure it’s the same for atp. A few Aussie doubles pairs have made it in the last few years, being ranked outside the top 8, Kyrgios/kokkinakis for example
I found this on wiki " if a player or team won one of the year's majors and finished the year ranked from ninth to twentieth, they were included in the Tennis Masters Cup instead. If two outside the top eight won majors, the higher-ranked of the two in the world rankings took the final spot. This accommodation for major champions continues in the event's current form"

@ Long Grand Slam matches don’t bode well for Djokovic now. He should delay coming back until Monte-Carlo Masters on April 6th. That’ll give him two months to fully recover. Djokovic hasn’t won a Grand Slam or an ATP title since November 2023. Yes, he did win a cherished Olympics Gold Medal in Singles in August 2024.
I don't see how Navarro drops after her brutal 3 set matches all the way into the quarters. It's just points I guess. I was impressed with Ruse who took a set off of Keys and could've won that match.
The only real chance that anyone will pass Sinner at this point is if he gets banned for a long period of time. Cause then he will lose a ton of points
That won’t happen until May at the earliest (as CAS is unlikely to make a decision for at least a few weeks). It does depend on the length of suspension. If Karen Moorhouse (ITIA CEO) is right, WADA wins their appeal then Sinner will become an unranked player as the suspension is minimum 12 months.
Everyone has a speciality. Sinner is the hard Court master. Carlos is the clay master... Everyone else is in between. Djokovic is almost out. He is an all-rounder...
