I just learnt to jump, hold drift and it let's you not use your speed boost, how do you maintain the speed boost and do an air manuvure?

everytime i do the beach drift on riviera, the single inch of water is too much for my car and instantly explodes my car everytime unless I essentially just drift on the road instead which still makes me lose time but maybe I can find a way around it?
