Right at the point when she said she was up for 72 hours I burst in to tears. You never realise the effort that goes on behind the scenes for someone to do something for you. It was such a gift for them to be able to lovingly administer to their neighbors. Thank GOD for good people in Canada and our USA friends we open our hearts for. 💓❤💓❤💓❤
I’ll never forget this story, and keep coming back to it 22+ years later. As an American who has never been to Canada, the people of Gander fill my heart with love and gratitude for your entire nation. With love to Canada 🇨🇦, America hasn’t forgotten ❤
Thank you Gander. My wife and I landed there on 9/11. You were great. We bunked in the school there and as you fed us, I remember volunteering to wash pots and pans. If anyone remember that, I'd love to hear from you. We tried to visit on the 15th Anniversary, but connections could not be made. God Bless.
The week after 9/11 my family took a cruise from Boston to Canada. Our first stop was St. John. The welcome with the bagpipes and local people left all of us Americans in tears. They could not have been more supportive or generous. My wife’s family comes from the Maritimes so this was close and familiar to her. I will never forget the feeling thy gave us of kinship and warmth.
An amazing story of a small town in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada with a Big Heart ! These Gander residents are truly remarkable and kind. They knew how to organize, procure supplies and feed an army of people and bed them for the night. The Gander airport is known by all airlines as the first point of refuge after crossing the Atlantic if your plane has an emergency. Bless them. Their runways are able to accept any Jumbo jet in the sky. The Town of Gander, Newfoundland will always be remembered with love by the people who landed there. God Bless the good people of Gander always !
It's airport was built during WW2. As a way for planes to watch boat's heading for the UK. The jumbo Jets almost killed the airport. The and yet it was their to save them when they needed the help.
I love every Canadian I've met in my life here (in the US). They've been so pleasant. And those I met when I visited Canada count in that, as well. Canada is a good neighbor to have!
I am Canadian and always have met the loveliest Americans when I visit the states. They have always been so warm and welcoming whenever I visit. My favourite American city is Chicago and I have a blast there and everyone I asked for directions stopped and helped! I also found everyone sooooo warm and kind in Portland, Oregon and so many other places. And Americans are some of the sweetest tourists... So much to love about the USA although I feel the media often just feeds the world the worst bits and that is not a fair representation at all. ♡

Canadian here. I don't know if you'll see this reply a year after your post but some years ago I visited Arlington National Cemetery. I can't tell you what an emotional experience that was for me. I lost some uncles and my father was badly wounded in WW2 and it all kinda hit home at once. My son in law was in Afghanistan and had to shoot a boy about the same age as my oldest grandson and now has sever PTSD.. He has just entered a treatment facility but this will linger for the rest of his days. We make sacrifices for the freedom we both share a deep value for and it makes us more than brothers in arms.
