Read DOUBLE DEAL by Michael Corbitt. Corbitt was a suburban Chicago Police Chief of Willow Springs, Illinois involved with moving money from the casinos at times for the bosses.
DOUBLE DEAL by Michael Corbitt verifies Frank Rosenthal "'Ace Rostein'" Robert DeNiro character and Anthony Spilatro "'Nicky Santoro'"Joe Pesci character involved in Vegas.
DOUBLE DEAL by Michael Corbitt introduces the real head of Chicago Outfit not mentioned for some unknown reason. Hy Larner appeared before the McClellan Commission in 1959.
Scorsese has made many brilliant films, but I think Casino is his finest work. It is 3 hours long, but so well done, I can watch it over and over again.
I remember I had this huge pop and had to go but I didn't want to miss anything...
Facts.....me too. And I have done exactly that many times
Everything Scorcese has made is gold, but the Irishman is his magnum opus in my opinion. The only single thing it lacks is it’s parallel to real events as most of the film was fiction.
Casino is a clear number two to me.
I'm constantly watching Casino, as it stands as my favorite Scorsese movie of all times. Of course I loved the Irishman, even if I think deepfake does a better job. But Casino is just Casino, it hits my heart even better.
Casino is one of the most rewatchable Movies ever made. Even ("a tiny bit")more than Goodfellas. Only little flaw is too much Drama with Ginger, i mean Sharon Stone was truly amazing as Ginger, but some Scene's maby needed to cut out. How ever, it will always be in my Top 5 Movies of all Time.
I love how he shows movie footage than backs it up with real video it's priceless and so amazing that it's. Real
I’m glad you enjoyed it Lisa! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, it means a lot.
I couldn’t of said it better! You took the words out of my mouth as I watched this.
I agree.
Sheer perfection!
Yeah but actors go harder than the real people 😂 ❤
You don't 'vaguely' remember the stabbing with the pen, you either remember it or you haven't watched Casino.
Dude don’t even watch the movie if he didn’t remember that scene 😂
I was thinking the same thing. First thing I thought.
lmao yeah he lost me there
Who didn't love Sharon Stone as Ginger in the first part in the 1970s look. especially with the gogo boots and mini dress. Just stunning.
It's the dress when she went to go "powdered her nose"...and that pure gold dress when sam fired the young kid for complimenting ginger. Her outfits 🤌🏾💎👑. Her wardrobe was classic RICH BXXXX attire.
How can Pesci be so funny in a movie 🎥 and then absolutely terrifying in another ? what an amazing actor this guy is he’s a legend 🏴👍
Better yet how can he be so funny one scene and then so terrifying in another
My favorite part is the banker. Omg I lost it and use that line all the time I'm stupid but dam I got what he was saying..don't fuck with my money intelligence or demeanor. Wow.
Even when he’s terrifying, he’s funny
Pesci was more hilarious in Casino than terrifying
Oh Joe Pesci was funny as hell in this movie this and Goodfellas he made it funny and it wasn’t suppose to be lol
This just reaffirms how well put this movie is. Casino is an all time classic film.
Brilliant acting by Joe Pesci.
- No doubt but big props to Dick Smothers and especially Don Rickles who tried not to steal every scene but did. Brilliant all around.
@@zora_noamflannery2548 - What did Rickles exactly do to steal any scenes? Fall on the floor like an old man? That was one of the strangest casting choices in any Scorsese movie ever. Completely out of place.
I wonder if the BJ scene was real?
Brilliant? Brilliant how? Like a clown? 😛
Does he amuse you?
Being born and raised in Vegas (1964), this video brings back a TON of memories. I remember all of this.
I wasn't born in Vegas, but I moved there in 1977. I remember all of it also. I sat in the racebook, in the Stardust, two or three times when Lefty Rosenthal did his live shown on Saturday night at 11 pm { in the football season}. He would make his picks for the Sunday Pro Football games. They had a comedian on the show dressed up in a referee"s uniform with a whistle. He was funny as hell. To me that was the heyday of Vegas!! By the mid-eighties, the influence of the mafia was starting to wind down. It has never been the same since, and never will be.
I wasn't born in Vegas, but remember all of this. I sat in the horse book twice and watched Lefty's show live from the Stardust. I remember watching the 6 o'clock news after the bomb exploded, and he was being wheeled into the ambulance.
I like how joe pesci executed that "watch yourself.... banana peel" line. He brings his comedic side to this dangerous character, Nicky Santoro
Banana peel 😂😂😂
They even added screeching sounds, because we all know rubber screeches on sand like that 😂
The resemblance is Sharon Stone to Geri and Pecsi to Spalatro is amazing
I did a comparison of Sharon and Geri: ruclips.net/user/shortsosruwL7nQnE?feature=share
Man. I’m amazed at the accuracy. Scorsese is a genius. Especially the simple Pesci line “watch yourself” matching Spilotro saying it walking out of the courthouse.. Very cool. I wonder if the actors were all shown this footage.
They should be bc this is AWESOME!!
it was because of cullotta not martin
Same lawyer in the news clip as in real life . Dude played himself. Same w Cullota he played the hitman who did the hit he did in real life. Only time in history a killer played himself doing the actual killing he did in real life in a movie
Yes they were, most major actors get access to archive news footage to study there character.
The movie was fairly accurate as Frank Cullotta was a consultant on set constantly.
People should do this more for movies loosely based on true events. It's really cool and show the actual events that happened.
They did it in Narcos😊
Loved it
Oscar Goodman was Spilotro's lawyer and plays himself in the movie...lol...they show him here in both the movie AND news clips....now THAT'S badass!
He has a pretty funny book out there, about these years as a Mob lawyer, Mayor of Las Vegas and a man who appreciates a nice 🍸 in the evening!!!
Pesci was PERFECT to play Spilotro
Okay they definitely nailed it as far as looks with the actual people with Joe Pesci playing Tony and Sharon Stone playing Geri but Deniro as Frank hell no but that is why they are great actors.
It’s crazy how as a teenager I remember seeing harry reid on the news, and I love this movie…not until many years later did I realize it was young harry reid who the senator character was based on!
Being born and raised in Chicago i was always fascinated by this movie, I've read Pileggi's and Roemer's books but I've never seen all the actual news footage they basically reenacted word for word.
Do you think Outfit is still around?
@@webnovice2012 they're not going anywhere

Jaws was my favorite movie. Until I've seen this movie. Casino.
Having a self care day tomorrow and gonna sit and watch it for the first time
@@str8boaw get snacks and enjoy it's a classic now. 👍
I read the book first,so glad I did
I think it won an academy award for best opening titles, didn't it?
Geesh. What a story. The fact that it's true and these folks actually walked the earth with us and not in a novel is ... well takes you back.
I wasn’t alive when 99% of the footage posted on my channel happened. If it wasn’t for the archival footage like this I wouldn’t believe most of it actually happened.
It's all true, including the Nevada Gaming License hearing {was live on tv}, Lefty"s Saturday night Football Show from the Stardust {11pm}, and the bomb that went off when Lefty started his car in the parking lot of Tony Roma"s restaurant!! Vegas was an incredible town in those years!! As crazy as it seems now, it was not outside the norm at the time.
The movie nailed that courtroom scene.
Yes, I remember watching that hearing on live tv. I knew who Lefty was {didn't know him personally}, but had no idea how corrupt the Nevada Gaming Commission {led by Harry Reid} was!!
Anyone notice that one of the entertainers shown on the Frank Rosenthal show was Don Rickles.
Don Rickles was in the movie as well
Found his comedy insufferable to be honest but never funny!
@@Mork2001 That's right. Another overrated comedian.
And he’s a Jew
- Rickles underplayed his part and still killed it. Mr. Dick Smothers killed his part also.
The scene where Pesci beats Don rickles in the head with the phone..
I wanted to shout at the TV, stop, he's an old man!
I gotta say Thank You for this. Casino is one my top 5 movies of all-time. Never really got to see the real faces behind it all. So thank you again.
You’re welcome!
Of the two most notable real life gangster portrayals by Pesci, it's funny how one did not match his body type and look at ALL (DeSimone), but Spilotro is like a spitting image!
I’m glad they cast him and not someone of bigger stature because goodfellas wouldn’t have been the same without him.
Just stumbled upon this video by accident. Damn its so well done. One of my favorite movies of all time and such a fascinating story 👍 you put this together very well!
Thank you!
Same here great video
@@bettertimeschi gr8 show...new 2 the channel...I'm fascinated by real mob history thanx
Love how Lefty lights that cigarette 👍
Casino is a great movie, and all the actors were terrific in it.
This was perfect. I visited the mob museum in Vegas last year and they had a piece of this in there. Great insane history. Thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the support.
This is not "insane" history.. History Alone..
Would you recommend the mob museum in Vegas? I've been in Vegas for a week now, another one to go but I went through all the hookers and blow already. If the mob museum is as good as you say, I might just spend next week there.
Wtf... a mob museum??
i’ve always put Casino on the lower end of gangster movies, or at least a lot of others ahead of it, but this can make me re-watch & try to see it differently
@13:44
“All I know is that it [the BOMB] didn’t come from the Boy Scouts of America”. 😂😂. That Rosenthal was quite the character.
The pen scene will always remind me of Write Now by Atmosphere ❤
8:17 Frank lighting a cigarette while questioning the chairman, was his character playing his character just like Robert DeNiro played Sam and successfully did so (including his figurine and dressing style) Say whatever but the man had style. The atmosphere on the hearing was like a bunch of hypocrites pointing fingers, no honor among thieves.
This was our first glimpse of Harry Reid. He became the most powerful and corrupt man in Nevada!! The hearing was an absolute farce.
I met Mr. Rosenthal many times, his son Steve was my best friend growing up in SoCal back in the early to late 80’s
I'm impressed how well this is put together. Thanks so much for doing it!
You’re welcome!
It's amazing when a person is alive how they think all their politics and pursuit of money and power really matters. Frank in that courtroom is a shining example of that.
I want the same amount of Blueberrys in each Muffin !
8:37
Even Saul Goodman failed to defend his client at that timel
Fascinating! Had no idea that the movie echoed real life so closely...
This is a masterpiece.
Thank you!
One of my favorite movies of all time. So awesome to see the real life mirroring of the movie.
The fact that it’s Harry read should tell you everything you need to know
It's funny. You get so used to seeing DeNiro as Sam Rothstein (Frank), when you see footage of the real person it's a shock.
which is weird because deniro could pass for someone who is Jewish while the real frank Rosenthal just liked German or irish
This was superb. Love Casino and the way you juxtaposed the movie clips with the newsreels was so satisfying and answered a lot of questions. Top notch work. Much appreciated !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for teaching me a new word man haha
I was just in Las Vegas and made sure to stop and get a picture where Lefty's car blew up.
I found out later that as a kid, I only lived about 6 blocks from the Spilotro's family home on Melvina Ave. in Chgo. (Brickyard/Riis Park area) And I attended the same high school that one of the Spilitro boys attended a few decades before. Hugh Hefner also had attended the same high school and was remembered by one elderly teacher as a "hooligan".
Goddamn you are too old to be on youtube boi🤣🤣🤣🤣
“All I know is that it didn’t come from the Boys Scouts of America” 😂😂 his car bombing
that young footage of george knapp is crazy
That intimidation at 8:45 is insane, better than any movie.
He exposed the chairman for his corruption crazy
@@Uccapone Yes, but it didn't do Lefty any good. Harry Reid continued on to a public life of power and corruption. He became the most powerful man in Nevada.
good ol Harry Reed

@@DrBigFMC it was on DVD 📀 in 2005 when the film celebrated it’s 10th anniversary and later re-release on Blu-Ray Disc, as a special feature
I didn't know it then how I know it now....I sure was blessed being born in the 80's an raised in the 90's with these actors and movies
I see clips like this and watch movies like Casino and it just reminds me of how I was absolutely born in the wrong decade.
Lol
Only paperwork sounds nice and all until you get murked and a dirty cop throws away your arrest record 😅😅😅
Damn I say that all the time
I lived through all of this. Born and raised in Vegas in 1964. My dad knew most of everyone that the film depicts. I wasn't quite a teenager when I remember my family going (often) to The Leaning Tower of Pizza. That was Spilotro's joint at the end of the Strip. I was there when the argument broke out between Geri Rosenthal and Frank; the one that involved Spilotro.
I say this everyday!! I wish I could go to the 70s and stay there.
Fun fact: the lawyer in the movie was Rosenthal/Spilotro’s lawyer in real life, Oscar Goodman. This can be confirmed at 4:54-5:22.
He then went on to become mayor of Las Vegas.
another fun fact.....if you look closely, 8:45 you'll notice that the crooked commissioner is none other than Harry Reid.
Lawyers are some of the most dodgy shady people on Gods green earth.
No crap

The whole cast is absolutely brilliant I love watching this movie
The book was basically the script. The video footage is fantastic
These are great. Thank you.
After I moved to Las Vegas in 1975, I remember watching many of these news clips.
George Knapp, one of the reporters is still on the air at the same local newscast.

Perfectly done including credits. I arrived in vegas in 1984. Saw AS on 📺 than later heard about them finding the bodies.

I was a little boy living in Las Vegas during that time, but I vaguely remember "The Hole in the Wall Gang." That was the nickname of Spilotro's crew and I remember that intro. music to Rosenthal' TV show.

I lived in Boca Raton for 12 years. His bar was named Croc’s. Frank was there all the time! My apartment was around the corner. He’d walk around, one hand in his left pocket, cigarette in his right hand. I always thought to myself, who is this older gentleman??? Then..Casino came out. There were movie posters hanging on all the walls.

Spilotro and Ginger were out of control. Most everything else was a "controlled chaos".
7:48 Good 'Ol Harry Reid was just as corrupt in '79 as he was in DC. It's good to see that he stayed consistent.
Was he corrupt here though? He denied Rosenthal's gaming license and was instrumental in getting the mob out of vegas. He helped implicate people who tried to bribe him and survived an attempted car bombing from the mob.
@@matta6643 you are missing the fact that he used the hotel with hookers and lied about it. That was Lefties point. Harry had no problem using the hotel to play, get credit. Did you miss the point about the phone call about votes? Yes you did. Harry was crooked.
You have no idea wtf you’re talking about. Mr. Reid was a man. Not perfect. But definitely one of the better ones. Vegas royalty. I wouldn’t expect you to understand. Only that you ppl in the rest of the country come here with all your vices fulfill them and run back home to be hypocrites ! My godfather was pitboss at Stardust and worked with Lefty. I was too young to ask him stuff bout those days and he passed along time ago. I’ll imagine he looked a lot like Don Rickles 😎
I used to have a pamphlet from the crap hole Tropicana but it had the ratings for how long u bet and what comps u get. 400$ avg bet a day for 4 hours a day got u private jet , hookers and party favors. Think it said women or escorts not hookers. Was awesome. That was like 1982.
@@EmperorNerox thats awesome. Comps used to be so easy to get dinner or some drinks but the big corporations started the rating system and near impossible unless your big player. I was small sportsbook bettor and used to get free drinks and coffee shop comps back in late 80s or so.
