I really need to do a Streams video, indeed. I checked if there are clones since it's analog and people just can't copy the code. It's still out there. These little experiments turned out to be really cool. But hey, I 'know' this module for two days now. Now I need to get a bit of experience.
@@CinematicLaboratory i don't see it as analog. It's the most hybrid module MI has. Analog signal path with vca and filtering and digital controle. I have looked at the files few months ago to see if it was feasible to make a alt firmware for it with a small idea i had but i don't think it is possible because it touches the analog domain
Brilliant! Just getting into LPGs... I have the Doepfer LPG and it's fab. Will be getting the DXG soon to pair with the XPO and QPAS... very much looking forward to it!
hi, fantastic videos for all LPG lovers. thanks. it is also fair to mention the richter DUAL BORG by Malekko Heavy Industry (FILTER/VCA/LPG vactrol based)
Thank you for the inspiration. Again! I will spend some time with the VCV version of Streams, and see if I can get even close with the Digitone (my Music Easel ;-)
I have way more LPGs than I have VCAs (and three more than I thought because I didn’t know about Plaits!). I should also have another in due course- last month I gave Rabid Elephant a load of money on the basis that they might send me a Natural Gate before Xmas. It cannot possibly be as disappointing as the DXG…
I wasn't convinced about the natural gate until I realized 'natural' isn't just vactrol emulation, but it also uses physics to mimic a natural response of two objects hitting each other with different speeds and pitches. The only examples that make use of it are the videos by Rabid and you may need mixed CV like trigger streams going slower or faster, and an envelope to create different variations. I can't wait to try it with a 281T function generator running quad functions :). As for the DXG, I am super happy with it, especially with XPO and Spectraphon and QPAS and Mimeophon. Running it with six DPO channels is awesome. But yes, I am missing something I took for granted with vactrols, which is every strike is a tiny bit different. When I get disappointed by a module I always try to focus on its main feature. With DXG, it's stereo.
fantastic video sir sounds so good on headphones i love these sounds immensely, thank you for putting the work in to bring them all to us some of these models are unobtainable to most of us so it's lovely to hear you put them through the paces long live the memory and legacy of Don Buchla.
Definitely the NG, because it's so incredibly expressive. 292T gives QMMG patch possibilities and is a better Buchla than the QMMG. As for the LP/HP, you really dig the acid squeak the SSG will do better. QMMG is about the joy to own something rare. But that's easy for me to say because I have a QMMG and I can be objective about it. When I didn't, I just HAD to have one. I am a lot more relaxed about buying the B&G. I hope I'll succeed, but I am OK if I don't.
@@bassywax Honestly, I tried it. I did my very best to love it because I love Erica Synths. Here's a compare: ruclips.net/video/utU7UEnyqFQ/видео.html. Maybe I used them all wrong but they always sounded blurry compared to the 'real' Buchla 292 family.
Thanks ! Happy to see I'm not the only having problems understanding streams ( a new video about it ?), that module was too much in advance I guess. I'm also wondering how close we can approximate a lpg with a classic filter + env and vca. To me main differences are natural enveloppe ( slower attack a'd wayyy slower delay) and vcfa fonction... But at Qpas launch Tony Rolando was pointing out that they are also less resonant ( for some) and so qpas has lpg mini resonance fully ccw. ( And hidden " strike input" Emilie Gillet also pointed that ripples could be used as a " sort of lpg" by send an env to both vca and cutoff.... I never tried to compare but it could be useful for people who don't own lpg. ( instead of gasing it's always better to try with our own stuff).
I did a compare a few years ago, but it comes down to using a good filter for it. A LPG has a modest 6 dB slope, which 'rules out' sharper filters like the ladder and the roland style models. I got excellent results with the Eowave Fluctuations Magnetique. But when compared with a LPG, it came close but not close enough. ruclips.net/video/utU7UEnyqFQ/видео.html

@@CinematicLaboratory thanks, will watch it ! Yes I forgot about the slope too
I decided to get rid of the bird sounds and reuploaded. Sorry for losing your comments!
fwiw I prefer your usual font .....
@@chetplease I agree it feels different, almost normal. But maybe it helps me to get two million subscribers :)
Natural Gate is in, and it's so good it's not fair.
Streams seems worthy of a feature vid. Lovely and expressive Krell chirping is quite the envy of we who are known as knob twiddlers.

a nice one ! can't wait you try natural gate (it is one of my prefered) and compare it to streams, which develop me interest !

long live the memory and legacy of Don Buchla.
Usually they're scattered over many cases and setups so it's not as hedonistic as it looks. But yes, It's great to be able to patch them all up.
now that qmmg is happening again, what would be your choose: NG, 292T, (2x)SSG or QMMG?

@@CinematicLaboratory two things, what does B&G mean? And second, the SSG does not have HP mode, why did you say that?
@@bassywax Black and Gold. I referred to the resonance in the SSG. It has a lot of modes and it sounds awesome.

Absolutely not. I got a bargain from a modular friend who doesn't care about low pass gates, natural or not :)
