I made “lazy baby food”. If I had made chicken noodle soup I would put it in the cooked carrots in the chopper or I had this bowl I would mash them in. It was very low lift.
Thanks for sharing that you don’t have to take a whole day to declutter. Little by little makes a Big difference.
That Costco wreath is lovely. You can’t even make one for that cheap!

I like the idea of the "lazy baby food" that is my style too. That wreath is a really good deal for how huge it is and I agree sometimes making things can be more expensive than buying them already done. =)

The first thing I noticed was your beautiful hair! You always look nice!
I love the monthly declutter that’s such a great idea! I went downstairs to our second family room to get rid of stuff and felt so overwhelmed! I ended up not doing anything in there! If one of my daughters lived close to me either one would help me get rid of stuff I don’t need anymore just like you help your mom.
Well I watched this show now I think I can go down and work for 30 minutes. Maybe 30 minutes everyday will add up and I’ll have one room all decluttered and minimized! 😅 thanks for your great shows Shannon!
    Happy Thanksgiving too!

Yes 30 minutes at a time will make a huge difference! I actually prefer decluttering a little at a time because then it isn't overwhelming, but over time you will see the benefits.

It makes sense to always be decluttering as you go. I feel the journey of decluttering is always evolving. We have some many things coming into our homes but only trash & recycling going out on a regular basis. I love how mindful you are about what you purchase for your family for Christmas⛄

I agree! I never declutter on a regular basis so this is very inspirational to me . I’m realizing how necessary it is to get into that decluttering mind set!

I just took my monthly box of donations to Salvation Army on Saturday, then I took my teen daughter shopping there. She got 1 skirt, 6 pair of dress pants and 3 blouses, all for $30-nice brands like Calvin Klein, Worthington, Dockers, Talbott, Dana Buchman. I like to get practical gifts too! Your hair looks gorgeous!!

I bought that wreath at Costco last year at Christmas and love it. I left it up above my mantle all year sans the lights after Christmas. It’s beautiful and goes with my decor which is a mountain theme since I live in the mountains of eastern Washington State. ❤

We have paired down all our Xmas decor over the years. Our children are grown so we don’t go over board with nic nacs or decorations but we did buy a “pop up” Xmas tree…😂 it has the lights and baubles already attached. It’s super easy to put up and it folds back down to pack away.

  • @brifren2

Your hair looks especially lovely! We've had the same wreath (very much like yours) for over 25 years now, and it honestly looks as good as new every year :) And the same goes for our Christmas tree and ornaments, we are so happy to see them again every Christmas! They are still in great condition and filled with wonderful memories. It's kind of a French tradition and we are French. So I rarely buy any new Christmas decoration, as we have everything we love! I just tweak the decorative arrangement now and then and it never gets boring. Also I add a few things found in nature, which do not need to be stored afterwards. My parents and grandparents did the same thing, and so do my children now :) and some of the ornaments are passed down from one generation to the next :)

Good morning from a snowy canadian day! It's a great time to declutter old stuff. I had a big pile of clothes I wanted to mend and over the weekend I realistically looked at the clothes...I knew in my heart I wasn't going to mend them or wear them so I turned them into rags! I also had a bunch of small ceramic squares because in my dreams LOL I wanted to make trays...I should point out I had these tiles for over 10 years! Never mind the trays I donated all the tiles! Take care and blessings to you and your family❄🌟💙⛄🌟🎄🌟❄

First time to comment, I think? Thank you for your videos, very helpful and so down to earth. I have three sons as well; however, they are all grown up now. I am much more on the minimal journey, slowly been decluttering for 2 years; got rid of over half my Christmas. (Even my tree) I just do candles, angels, nativities, stars and I have an Amaryllis plant, waiting to bloom.

The only problem with consumables in a tin is that the tin will add to individuals clutter. At least a cardboard box can be quickly recycled. Some will cling to the tin.

I didn't write down the things that went out of the house this month, but it was as you said...a good amount considering if they had stayed. Some things that come to mind off the top of my head are pj bottoms, a coffee mug, a coat, some pillow covers, 2 plastic pedal straps from my exercise bike (not sure why a person needs to have their feet locked in, lol they were so annoying) and from my husband, a pair of swim trunks. I had to laugh at the part about Grant's shorts that he said he would be willing to declutter because they fell off of him.. laughing because my husband will keep things like that as well and when I ask him why would they still be in his drawer such as the swim trunks when we never even go swimming... and usually his thought is, they were just there in the drawer, why did it matter?? haha
I think it's a process on this journey we are on now. We open doors and drawers and we see things and we make sure everything in there is being used... it's just like an auto mindset. But, I noticed that other people who aren't on this journey don't even give it a second thought and will look past the same pair of shorts or socks for months or even years and not think a thing about it as long as the drawer is fairly neat haha 🚶‍♂️ Go us!! Our homes are getting better day by day with the continual mindset of letting things go that are unused. I once heard something said that when we keep things that aren't being used we're actually not being conservative, we are being wasteful because someone else might be able to use or enjoy them, so true!
Have a beautiful Monday from cold Southwest Missouri. It's been less than 20° upon awakening lately, but it's at least warming up into the 40s by midday! We are already missing the 70 daily temperatures but it is refreshing when the air is cool.
I think it was a wise choice about your wreath. We have gotten a live tree all the years of my life but this year wow I'm dreading spending the money on that. I think it will be either get a tiny four to five foot tree or sacrifice and get a spruce instead of a fir. Pines are cheaper but I'm allergic to those so there's that to think of.

    • @shannontorrens1
      @shannontorrens1  2 года назад +2

Hi Julia, wow it is getting cold where you are! For us 40 is cold lol. I can relate to what you said about opening the drawer and just looking past all the things we don't use or like. I did that for years and that is why it was so shocking for me when I first heard about decluttering and minimalism. It was as if someone told me "look at everything and see if you need it". I had never heard that before. It is definitely a journey! I hope you have a great week =)

Hello! My test for donation is whether the item can be mended and is worth mending. A new heel for your sandals wouldn’t be very expensive or hard to do, so if they are leather/good condition otherwise, I would still donate! Others may disagree - but good leather shoes often last through multiple repairs/resoles.

Yes I always get my shoes heeled, I’ve shoes I’ve had for 30 - 40 years. I keep them in their boxes and find a box if they don’t come with one and it’s,eels them tidy in the bottom of my wardrobe. If I find they they hurt my feet I usually donate or if we’ll worn recycle.

Hi Dani, I think decorating definitely changes with different stages in our lives. When we lived in NZ we didn't decorate at all because it was summer and we were never at home. That is actually a great idea to just get things if or when you might want them and donate them when you are done.
