Icelandics lay medium small white eggs! Hens weigh 3 1/2 lbs roosters weigh 5 1/2 lbs. They're very self-sufficient they are a little bit on the flighty side but not bad! They domesticate fairly easy. They calm down fairly easy and the roosters are usually nice towards humans. There are different strains of them the one strain lays really well the other strain a little bit less and I don't know about the other one or a blend of them? But I do know I have the Behl strain lays equal to Leghorns the first then the second year they leave the leghorns in the dust. Sigrid's strain were by Sigrid Thordarson. She knows what they are supposed to look like. She had alot of blue coloring in her strain. Her strain also tend to be a little larger on the average about a 1/2 pound on both sexes. But also laid more of medium medium size brighter white egg but only about 180 to 200 eggs a year and were a little less broody on the average. I do know that they go broody fairly easy on the average both strains 65% and they're capable of raising about 10 to 12 chick under each set and they are very sneaky when they go out to set eggs and sit on them. They're very cold hardy and heat Hardy and they love to roost as high as it can in trees. They're very self efficient feed efficient and they love to dig in the piles and eat grub. The Icelandic name actually means pile digger.
