"Beds are Burning" is a political song that talks about returning the lands to the native Australians. Peter Garret, his singer, was always involved in social activity, but this also made the band no more successful than it had with their album Diesel and Dust. Today he is a former Minister of the Environment, but always with controversial proposals and projects, even very questioned by ecologists for several of their positive votes on problematic projects. At the beginning of the 1990s, Midnight Oil came to Argentina and were not even close to having the success of INXS, Air Supply, Dead Can Dance, Men at Work, Bee Gees or other Australian bands. Maybe for his music that didn't vary much or for the skinny high-haired that when dancing seemed to suffer an attack, anyway.

Legendary band. One of Australia’s biggest and best - The Oils are in that upper echelon of iconic Oz bands along with AC/DC, Cold Chisel & INXS.
A few more classic Midnight Oil songs to check out:
    Forgotten Years
    Power and the Passion
    Read About It
    King of the Mountain
    Blue Sky Mine
    Short Memory
    The Dead Heart
    US Forces
    When the Generals Talk
    Back on the Borderline
    Kosciusko
    Only the Strong
They also put on a great live show. Their concert video “Oils on the Water” is one of the best shows ever recorded.

It is about Aboriginal rites what was done to them and giving them back some of there land. Lead singer was also a politician.

A very deep song about giving the Aboriginal race its dues - Time we did our bit to atone our crimes and pay up.

I remember this song from the 80's. Still a good tune. Would never have remembered the name of the band though 💕

Not sure but it might have to do with the way the aborigines were/are treated in Australia. That would be my guess 💕

I believe they're talking about global warming and world hunger.
