    I used the stock am4 back plate as someone else said. makes much better mounting with less fear of over tightening

  • @jordsan1
    @jordsan1 2 года назад +5

    When using the backplate that comes with the heatsink, one must pay close attention to not over-torquing the nuts. The screw pads do not make contact with the CPU side of the motherboard, and it will feel like the nuts can be tightened further...and yes, they can, but if you over-tighten them, the board will bend towards the heatsink. It is not evident what advantage there is to using that backplate. Using the backplate that comes with the motherboard, the screw pads will contact the CPU side of the motherboard via the backplate extensions used by the removed AM4 plastic brackets' larger screws, thereby reducing the chance of damaging the motherboard by flexing it.

      So you can use the stock am4 back plate that comes with the motherboard?

  • @Mr1Tanker

    The Thermalright also has the advantage (along with the AMD box coolers) vs. tower coolers (ie. Hyper 212), of cooling board components...especially the VRM.

      In some circumstances, like gaming, you are correct. But if the CPU is being heavily utilized then the vrms will be hit with heated air possibly making them warmer. It really comes down to the system and how much case airflow there is, like most things.

      I heard people say so. One day I bought the no 1 top-down cooler NH-C14S (just because I dont like tower ones, not the VRM matter).
      Stress test with two fan positions:
      Fan below the heatsink and pull air from VRM, CPU and push above: max VRM temp is 80oC.
      Fan above the heatsink with push position down to the CPU, VRM; yeah we think it may blow air to cool the VRM but max VRM temp is 87oC.
      Max CPU for both positions I got is ~ 66oC.

    Good low profile cooler for small cases. Good review 👍

    What low profile cooler have you had the best results with? I only have 135mm height clearance and my assassin king mini is millimeters away from my glass. I hit 95c in about 8 minutes on prime95 which is pretty bad. I hit high 80s and low 90s in game sessions. Thinking about just switching to a low profile cooler when I install my 5600x in my current mid tower case. Not sure if the cooler being millimeters from the glass is hurting the performance or the AK mini is just that bad. Also using MX-4 paste instead of the stock paste given with TR coolers. Not sure if the MX-4 is any better but it's affordable

      This is a very loaded question without having more info. Are you sure the issue is the CPU cooler? or do you have Airflow issues in your case? what CPU are you currently using and are you OCing it? however to answer your questions, for a tower cooler being close or touching the glass shouldn't affect the performance of the cooler. The best low profile cooler I've tested is the ThermalRight SI100, which is a okay cooler. Not sure how it matches up to mini tower coolers, but it does lose to standard 120 tower coolers. Regarding paste, just as long a you don't use the really cheap stuff most pastes are much the same.

    whats the noise level like in this? i am using an intel stock cooler but i cant even watch videos without the cpu fan ramping up. I am hoping this is quiet and i will not be overclocking let me know.

    any chance you could test L9a vs this? Planning to put this on K39 V3.

    Can you use this on a Ryzen 9 5900x in a mid tower case with good air flow ?

    • @HardwareForGamers
      @HardwareForGamers  2 года назад

      I would not use it for loads of more than 100 watts. So it depends on how you're planning on using the 5900x. But I would say no.

      It should work for a 5800x, if you can undervolt the CPU.

      There is no reason to use this in a mid tower. I'd get a bigger one, these are for space optimized cases.

      At full speed this cooler had a dBA of 39.2, but it is a pwm fan so it should be simple to setup a fan curve in the UEFI or by using FanControl

      pD: Is it normal that the RGB of the ram, graphics card and peripherals, just before entering the desktop of my PC, does not update to the custom ones? (I customized them in white, but the ram and peripherals take time to update)

    • @gracelandtoo6240
      @gracelandtoo6240 9 месяцев назад

      yes I would assume so, as you probably set the color for them in software at the regular Windows level instead of the bios, so they will only adjust accordingly once the software controlling them has started. That obviously doesn't happen immediately upon boot, but once you enter your desktop.
